Couldnt agree more, the thing is Halo had so much going against it at the time of release. the original halo trailer (the one where chief sounded like a robot) hadnt exactly been "well received". and they didnt know if it was gonna be a hit or a 1 off. the thing bungie got right in level design and overall aesthetic was this feeling of "mystery" and of course the feeling that "humanity is losing". But overall the aesthetic and "alien" type structures and background make it pretty much perfect. I still remember in 2003 (as i played Halo custom edition the PC version i never owned an Xbox) stepping out into the ring for the first time and jaw at the floor completly shocked.
seeing the ring on the horizon , from the inside of the ring like that, was a stroke of genius on the halo devs part
