No Way Home is just sucking all of the oxygen out of the room. That made for a week of videos with great numbers. But it also meant I wasn't able to cover a lot of others things with as much deal as I wanted.

I intentionally made this ranking longer than most of my rankings with only 4 movies because I wanted to talk about the movie more. I intended to do full reviews of the original trilogy. Wrote enough notes to do so, but then the month turned out to be too busy. SO I tried to share extra thought here.
I loved The Matrix 1 and Reloaded. I like Revolutions. I thought Matrix 4 was good but it was confusing at times and felt a little similar to the first movie.
I honestly feel it would have been better if they made the whole Matrix actually be all in Anderson head. they still could have thrown action sequences in there with the distortion of reality and Anderson version of reality. This was where they started with the first part of Matrix 4 and why it was so underwhelming by the end of it. Then it could have been very philosophical around the concept of reality and what we observe in our mind with how can we know is real or not that was introduced in the Matrix
I didn’t mind that Revolutions ended in a peace rather than just the humans winning, and Id argue that’s a better solution to the conflict (especially if you’ve seen animatrix), but I see where you’re coming from. Also IMO the matrix sequels are underrated.
I will say Mr. Smith being in every movie actually helps them, it was really just the writing around Smith's character that screwed it up. There was a very obvious way to take they franchise that would have made it a very solid movie and that is the question of whether the Matrix is real or not, with the whole trilogy set around "Neo" and a huge nemesis toward Neo with Smith. Our whole understand of the Matrix is from Tom Anderson's perspective so turning this upside down with there actually be no Matrix but just an elaborate fantasy created by a guy that is extremely bored with his life would have really worked while not undermining the original trilogy. It would even explain why Neo was the only person that was super OP because who doesn't want to be the most powerful person in their fantasy World?
Just came back from the 4th one: 4 = Matrix Revolutions (5/10) - Had some excellent action and visuals and concludes Neo’s story well and I love the design of the machine world but it got rid of all the philosophical conversations and character development I loved from the first two movies and replaced it with just CGI battles in the second half. As cool as the battle of zion was, it felt like something i’d see in terminator. Neo vs Smith was awesome though but ending was rushed. 3 = Matrix Resurrections (6/10) - Unnecessary but a decent follow up. Cool seeing how Neo and everyone including Ioh was doing 20 years after the events of the trilogy. Continues the themes of what’s real and what’s not, Neil Patrick Harris was really entertaining as a villain, had some cool cinematography and directing. Surprisingly the action, while still good, was not very memorable, I hate that it got rid of the green tint in the matrix, most of the new characters were forgettable and I didn’t like the recasting for Smith and Morpheus. Still, it could’ve been worse. 2 = Matrix Reloaded (7/10) - Some of the best action scenes of all time, Neo and Trinity are more developed, seeing Zion was so awesome, the Architect scene was an excellent subversion of the chosen one narrative and contains excellent philosohical conversations. Neo is way too overpowered in this movie, the story is convoluted and contains filler and the action and conversations can go on too long. 1 = Matrix (9/10) - Don’t think I need to explain why. What prevents it from being a 10 though is some slow pacing in the second act and characters such as Apoc and Switch being forgettable and unnecessary. Not every character needs to be develooed but give them some personality at least. Everything else from the action to the casting to the world to the script to the story is near perfect
5. Animatrix (6.5/10) 4. Resurrections (9/10) 3. Revolutions (9/10) 2. (Tie) Reloaded (10/10) 1. (Tie) The Matrix (10/10) The first two matrix films are tie, because they’re my two favorite matrix films.
Okay so to kind of explain the end of Resurrections. The sixth iteration of The Matrix (which was present in the original trilogy) had Neo as the one, and the journey of the One should have ended with Neo returning to the Source. But in Reloaded, he didn’t do that because he wanted to save Trinity. So when NPH’s character made the seventh iteration, he added in the One code to both Neo and Trinity. He did this so that the One, when split up, would be useless. So when Neo and Trinity unite, they have special powers. But yeah, basically the movie didn’t really explain it well. I mean the characters spoke too fancy and too fast. So I get the criticism, but this is just here for explanation in case anyone didn’t get it.
My ranking: 4. Resurrections - 8/10 3. The Matrix or Reloaded - 10/10 2. The Matrix or Reloaded - 10/10 1. Revolutions - probably my 2nd favorite movie ever

You articulate some good points on the franchise as a whole...🤔 I watched Resurrections recently with my Father and I don't think it resonated with him as much as it did with me. I really enjoyed the humans and machines living together harmoniously. But I think my Father is still waiting for Neo to fulfil his destiny and take down the machines and free humanity. Which I think highlights a point that you made that the goal posts were moved at the end of Reloaded. And made the trilogy disappointing if you loved the first film. Love your work! Have a good 2022! 🎉🎉
I’d rank all four films the exact same way. I will say I wholeheartedly think in 10-15 years Resurrections will get a cult following or at least gain more appreciation. Great video Sean
The Matrix Reloaded is one of my favorite movies EVER, The best in the franchise in my opinion! Part 1 was AMAZING, it ended with Neo becoming The One, kickin ass and Flying off 🤯🤯🤯 I wanted more of THAT and thats what Part 2 gave me and i loved every second of it!!! The New Matrix is disappointing 😞
The matrix reloaded is my least favorite of the trilogy. I loved the first one and thought reloaded would be just as good as the first one but I was extremely dissapointed. I thought it was boring, it drags on for longer than it needs to, and the first like half hour isn't even spent in the matrix it's set in zion, and zion is SO BORING!
4, 3, 2, 1 There is a HUGE leap in quality between Reloaded and the first one. The sequel is about half a good movie that I can have fun with, but the only redeeming quality of Revolutions is the Zion sequence, and the emphasis on love, thematically…and it had a dour ending. The setup of Resurrections is promising, it went too meta to the point of self-parody, was missing such iconic actors as Lawrence Fishburne and Hugo Weaving. It also didn’t feel like a Matrix movie in the action department; was lacking that style that even Revolutions had. It goes without saying that the original Matrix is the best!
I think they intentionally destroyed their own mythology as a fuck you to Warner Bros and the fans. The prosthetic middle finger made it pretty clear haha.
I knew matrix 3 was at the bottom and matrix 1 was at top, the only reason I watched this video was because I wanted to see which one will be ranked higher, matrix 2 or matrix 4
Pretty much the same ranking as you, for a lot of the same reasons (though I think I had different issues with some of them). 5. The Matrix Revolutions 4. The Matrix Resurrections 3. The Matrix Reloaded 2. The Animatrix 1. The Matrix
I love the matrix films no matter what directions surprisingly resurrections not Amazing wasn’t anywhere near bad like people said reloaded and revolutions
My ranking: 1. The Matrix . . . . . 2. The Matrix Resurrections 3. The Matrix Reloaded 4. The Matrix Resurrections The last three are nowhere near the level of the original movie, though I can have fun with Revolutions and the highway chase from Reloaded is so cool.
@@nms7872 Those are my exact thoughts on Reloaded and Revolutions, which I like about as much as Resurrections. Each has what the other lacks in a way.
1. Matrix 2. Reloaded 3. Revolutions 4. Resurrections resurrections aint bad, i find no matrix bad, just the first one is better than the rest, resurrections is okay, just sad to see so many actors changed
Hi Sean. I like your viewing on most of stuff. I just wanted to say that I always looked at the Matrix trilogy as 1 whole movie. And sure... "The Matrix" was much better than "Reloaded" and "Rev" but... It wouldn't be concluded whitout 2 sequels. That's why I never understood when people think there should be only 1st and no sequels. That's just my viewing of this franchise. Cheers. 😉
Me and my dad saw Resurrections (in IMAX baby!!) we went in very skeptical but we both thought it was great! One of my favorites of the year 1 The Matrix 2 The Matrix Resurrections 3 The Matrix Reloaded 4 The Matrix Revolutions
I can understand the letdown of revolutions. Reloaded I keep changing my mind on it. Resurrections I mean I didn't expect more or less but still not convinced by story. In a technical note which may not be surprising I am going to have to go with the first film in terms of the narrative.
The new one felt like a lifeless cog in the commercial machine. Yes, you have to make money but if you do, make one that everyone looks like they care about being in! Even Keanu seemed bored at times.
I watched the first matrix for the first time a couple days ago and I really didn’t understand it I might need to watch it again but there were some parts I liked a lot and then others I just couldn’t wrap my head around I might need a second viewing to see
Matrix Resurrection did do this thing where it is 16 years from the original trilogy but is set actually 80 years from the trilogy so pretty much everyone aged but Neo and Trinity and Agent Smith took over a younger body
I haven't seen ressurections yet, but I'm a huge fan of the matrix movies. I loved the first two, but the third one was honestly terrible and the loose plot just led up to a big fight with cgi effects. I had fun with it, but I do hope ressurections is a better film.
I can tell you now that I saw it, yes it is a better movie than Revolutions, *probably* at equal footing with the second movie, but definitely not as good as the first. Still a good and enjoyable movie.
haven't seen Resurrections and The Animatrix yet 1. The Matrix 2. The Matrix Reloaded 3. The Matrix Revolutions from what i've heard i'd probably like Resurrections more than Revolutions though, Reloaded i can't tell
Imagine if The Matrix released in 2021-2022 and not 1999... Goated. Given where technology is today, I would have just preferred a remake or remastered version of the first two films. Just for the fans. Obviously may have to do some recasting but everything else should be completely identical.
I rank em : The matrix Revolutions Reloaded Resurrections Not understanding all the hate with revolutions either. Reloaded was fire with action and a good bridge into revolutions but it felt rushed and some scenes especially with the twins just felt out of place. Revolutions was a masterpiece imo, started off right after reloaded and felt more like the first movie at times, had a good split of scenes between the matrix and the real world. And understanding to make a truce to defeat the virus (smith). My only complaint with it was the ending on how easy he beat smith, would’ve liked a more convincing fatality finish. But still not understanding why all the hate lol. 23 year matrix fan here 🤙🏽
My Ranking was exactly the same before watching this Video. I wasn't impressed by Resurrections, although I did think it was an upgrade compared to Revolutions.
Interesting how you didn't do a review on The Matrix Resurrections. What would you grade the film?

Lets goooo the ranking I’ve been waiting for the first matrix is easily one of my top 3 favorite movies of all time
I love the ending of Matrix Revolutions and how the sequels deconstructed the chosen one. For me and yes other fans as well it was satisfying.
I loved The Matrix 1 and Reloaded. I like Revolutions. I thought Matrix 4 was good but it was confusing at times and felt a little similar to the first movie.

Reloaded is far more confusing ,with the key master, train conductor , and The Frenchman, , it had me completely lost.

Well, the Neo vs. Smith is lame, but the Neo vs. Seraph, the Morpheus vs. Agent and the Chateau fights are awesome.

A cult following? For being one of the most unoriginal movies ever made?
#1. The Matrix
#2. Revolutions
#2. Resurrection
#2. Reloaded
That’s all that’s needed for me.
1. The Matrix (1999)
2. Matrix Ressurections
3. Matrix Reloaded
4. Matrix Revolutions
The Matrix Reloaded is one of my favorite movies EVER, The best in the franchise in my opinion!
Part 1 was AMAZING, it ended with Neo becoming The One, kickin ass and Flying off 🤯🤯🤯
I wanted more of THAT and thats what Part 2 gave me and i loved every second of it!!!
4, 3, 2, 1
There is a HUGE leap in quality between Reloaded and the first one.
My rating is the exact same, except I kinda view 3 and 2 as one long story more than separate peices of media
I knew matrix 3 was at the bottom and matrix 1 was at top, the only reason I watched this video was because I wanted to see which one will be ranked higher, matrix 2 or matrix 4
Mine would be
Matrix
Resurrections
Reloaded
Revolutions
Pretty much the same ranking as you, for a lot of the same reasons (though I think I had different issues with some of them).
5. The Matrix Revolutions
4. The Matrix Resurrections
3. The Matrix Reloaded
2. The Animatrix
1. The Matrix
#4 - Matrix Reloaded
#3 - Matrix Revolutions

1. The matrix
2. The matrix resurrections
3. The matrix revolutions
4. The matrix reloaded
I love the matrix films no matter what directions surprisingly resurrections not Amazing wasn’t anywhere near bad like people said reloaded and revolutions
I think that the architect scene in reloaded was an amazing scene and a good idea, also reloaded is (in my opinion) better than the original
My ranking:
1. The Matrix
.
.
.
.
.
2. The Matrix Resurrections
3. The Matrix Reloaded
4. The Matrix Resurrections
The last three are nowhere near the level of the original movie, though I can have fun with Revolutions and the highway chase from Reloaded is so cool.
You put resurrections twice lol
@@kennytalksfooty haa whoops! 2 was meant to be Revolutions 😅
Other than the action, I thought the new Matrix was really stellar.
I would have preferred stellar action and a very lackluster story. Matrix needs groundbreaking action scenes
@@nms7872 Those are my exact thoughts on Reloaded and Revolutions, which I like about as much as Resurrections. Each has what the other lacks in a way.
My ranking would be
4 matrix resurection
3. Matrix reloaded
2. Matrix revolutions
1. Matrix
I'm not a matrix fan but just wanted to rank them
1. Matrix
2. Reloaded
3. Revolutions
4. Resurrections
resurrections aint bad, i find no matrix bad, just the first one is better than the rest, resurrections is okay, just sad to see so many actors changed
Great video.
4. The Matrix Revolutions
3. The Matrix Resurrections
2. The Matrix
1. The Matrix Reloaded
One of my favorites of the year
1 The Matrix
2 The Matrix Resurrections
3 The Matrix Reloaded
4 The Matrix Revolutions
One of the worst of 2021 imo :-D
Yes, same!
People, come on!!! The two words 'disappointment' and 'Matrix' should never be said in the same sentence. Period. Point blank, dot.
Merry Christmas Sean.
04. Resurrections
03. Revolutions
02. Reloaded
01. Matrix
The first Matrix is inspiring and makes me think about life and my own purpose. The sequels just give me a damn headache lol
Am I the only one who loves "Revolutions"? In fact, ALL of them?
Great vid!
Obviously *The Matrix* is first, but where is *Resurection* though? 😮
My ranking
4. Revolutions
3. Resurrections
2. Reloaded
1. The matrix
1. The Matrix
2. Animatrix
3. Reloaded/Revolution
4. Resurrection
I love all the Matrix films so I can’t rank them.
I can understand the letdown of revolutions. Reloaded I keep changing my mind on it. Resurrections I mean I didn't expect more or less but still not convinced by story. In a technical note which may not be surprising I am going to have to go with the first film in terms of the narrative.
My ranking
1)the Matrix
Cz that's the only one I've seen
The new one felt like a lifeless cog in the commercial machine. Yes, you have to make money but if you do, make one that everyone looks like they care about being in! Even Keanu seemed bored at times.
I watched the first matrix for the first time a couple days ago and I really didn’t understand it I might need to watch it again but there were some parts I liked a lot and then others I just couldn’t wrap my head around I might need a second viewing to see
Great list. Because it's my list :)
Matrix Resurrection did do this thing where it is 16 years from the original trilogy but is set actually 80 years from the trilogy so pretty much everyone aged but Neo and Trinity and Agent Smith took over a younger body
60*
Hot take: I didn’t like Matrix 1 all that much, so I haven’t seen the others
Completely agree with everything.
1)The Matrix (100/100)
2)The Matrix Reloaded (80/100)
3)The Matrix Revolutions (60/100)
4)The Matrix Resurrections (50/100)
I agree only the The Matrix is 100/100
5. Matrix Resurrections
4. Matrix Revolutions
3. Matrix Reloaded
2. The Animatrix
1. The Matrix
@@victorcapote7376 Yeah I just saw it, totally agree
I have the same exact list as you.
haven't seen Resurrections and The Animatrix yet
1. The Matrix
2. The Matrix Reloaded
3. The Matrix Revolutions
from what i've heard i'd probably like Resurrections more than Revolutions though, Reloaded i can't tell
I agree with your list.
Matrix - 9/10
Matrix Reloaded - 7/10
Matrix Revolutions - 5/10
Matrix Resurrections - 6/10
This, this is the correct list. I'd switch the scores for Revolutions and Resurrections though.
5. Reloaded
4. Revolutions
3. Resurrections
2. Animatrix
1. Original
Imagine if The Matrix released in 2021-2022 and not 1999... Goated. Given where technology is today, I would have just preferred a remake or remastered version of the first two films. Just for the fans. Obviously may have to do some recasting but everything else should be completely identical.
MY RANKING
4. The Matrix Revolutions
3. The Matrix Resurrections
2. The Matrix Reloaded

4. Matrix: Reloaded
3. Matrix: Revolutions
2. Matrix: Ressurections

I rank em :
The matrix
Revolutions
Reloaded
Resurrections
Not understanding all the hate with revolutions either. 23 year matrix fan here 🤙🏽
@Kai Crowe I’m right there with ya man. It was solid rewatched all three recently too so no excuses lol
Hey Sean!
I’ve only seen the first 2 films and am gonna see the newest one tmrw I hope it’s not as bad as I hear😅
