For me my favorite are the Joker, Ra' Sal Ghul and Bane from the Dark Knight trilogy.
Hey Sean, just wanted to say I love watching these video's, you could also rank some of the more fleshed-out Gotham villains, cause they all get some kind of backstory or character arc, and some of these villains haven't been shown in recent movies yet (like Fish Mooney or Butch Gilzean)
Where is Maroni of TDK? I think if Carmine Falcone was in batman begins, Maroni should be on the list.
Two face in the Dark Knight is criminally underrated. Easily my number 2 behind the obvious number 1. They set up his arc as a fallen hero incredibly and his turn to villainy and death had such a lasting impact on everyone in the story and I just think he’s a fantastic villain who’s often overshadowed by Heath Ledgers Joker who is easily the best villain in any comic book movie ever.
Instead of die a hero he became a villain.
Two face is "underrated" because he was only two face for like 30 minutes.
Every thing about the Dark Knight is a masterpiece
I didn't like his inclusion in the film personally which is what lowered the movie in my rankings (yes I know I'm in the minority)

I thought Paul Dano came pretty close IMO. But still, no one’s beating Heath, yet. It’s just such a timeless performance.
Ledger gave us a timeless performance as Joker. You don't see Heath Ledger playing the joker. You see THE JOKER.
I mean he actually drove himself insane for the role and in some ways it lead to his death
To be fair I don't think I've seen him in anything else so those aren't really different as far as seeing him versus just seeing the joker.

@@cyrisssmith8830 You've gotta check Heath Ledger out in The Patriot, A Knight's Tale, Monster's Ball and Brokeback Mountain. All these movies were successful and shows you how a truly talented actor he was!
Not really he's not that accurate as the joker. We see an amazing performance but we don't see the joker. If you want to see THE JOKER look at Cameron monaghans potryal in the show Gotham. It's the most accurate live action version of the joker (even though he technically isn't the joker)
Heath Ledger is the top and probably will be for awhile and Paul Dano’s Riddler is second for me, saw The Batman twice and he was Amazing with Colin Farrel as Penguin being third, Incredible. Would love to see your rankings of the Batmobiles.
Damn u saw it twice I'm gonna buy it when it comes out in June and take advantage of the 4k my grandpa couldn't even handle the violence in the movie
Aaron Eckhart's performance as Two Face is extremely underrated. He nailed that downward spiral towards madness and his disfigurement was fucking frightening
Nolan’s Scarecrow was easily a top 5 villain for me.

It helps that Cillian Murphy played him perfectly, and I’m glad he’s going to be the lead role in Christopher Nolan’s next movie

Honestly, Paul Dano’s Riddler is my favorite. The way he acts and does things is so disturbing that it’s actually scary. The Riddler felt like a slasher villain but way smarter.
Loved him as Edward but really hated the look. Personality wise perfection. Look though....... Come on

Loved the riddler in the Batman but no, he is not the best Batman villain ever and there is no competition as to who he beats. I think we know who that villain is.
@@I_Am_The_Social_Reject I didn't love the look of his costume, but as with many things in The Batman, we are also seeing the proto version of Riddler so it didn't bother me. And it fit the serial killer vibe perfectly.
I think Rob Walker from Channel Awesome described Arnold's performance for "Batman & Robin" the best, where he says: "He's like a crazy 80 ton gorilla and you don't know what the hell he's gonna do, but if you stay against the wall and don't do anything, you might get a few laughs out of it."

Arnold deserves a second chance to play a comic book character again
I always thought he would have been an ideal Bane. He’s a hulking figure, but Arnold himself is a very intelligent, calculating individual.
I’ve seen some people suggest him for Galactus..I think it would be pretty cool

I'm not the BIGGEST fan of the Dark Knight Rises and I know he gets a little undercut at the end, but in my opinion Tom Hardy's Bane is a top 3 Batman villain. He's imposing, his performance is great, he's scary, and I love Tom Hardy's Shakespearean take on it. Though the movie is like only a 7/10, Tom Hardy's Bane is easily at least a 9/10.
Bane is supposed to be Hispanic and they white washed him… Tom hardy did fine in the role, but it was a terrible casting with horrible writing. Why did he talk like that? Why did he not have powers? It just under utilized not only bane but it made Batman overall weaker getting his ass kicked by bane

Paul Dano did so goddamn good in The Batman, he portayed the Riddler perfectly!!
I would love to see a new interpretation of Bane in the The Batman universe. Tom Hardy's Bane is great but I wouldn't say it's the best adaptation of the character.
I would say it’s the current best. The Bane from BTAS was really good but only had one really memorable episode. I didn’t play the Arkham games m up h so I wouldn’t know how good he was there, but he’s rarely mentioned when compared to some of the other villains from that game. The comics are the original medium that brought him to life, so I wouldn’t consider it an adaptation, but if we’re including it, then it’s still the best iteration of Bane. Hardy was excellent, though.
@@thetribalist6923 bane definitely gained A LOT of fans from the Arkham games. He was really really good imo. Would love to see that type of bane in a future movie but I WOULD LOVE to see an actually decent scarecrow in this universe almost like the scarecrow from Arkham knight. The one we got in Batman begins was soooooooo underwhelming and honestly was just a road block for Batman to get to Ra’s Al Ghul.
In my ideal Batverse I would have a spinoff show about Arkham, which we're getting, and a spinoff(s) about the Demon trilogy (The comics that are all about Ra's Al Ghul) and I would reintroduce a more comic book accurate Ra's, Talia, and Bane from 'Bane of the Demon' there.

I’ve heard a lot of people theorize that the injection Batman used in the last movie was a version of the venom serum. So we might see a comic accurate Bane on the big screen soon.

3. The Batman's Penguin (He's great and I may move him up when he's more developed.)
4. Selina Kyle from The Batman. (Even though she's not Catwoman in the movie yet, all her characteristics from the comics are there.)
5. A tie between Ra's Al Ghul and Scarecrow from Batman Begins.
I get that talia wasn’t a very compelling villain herself, but the scene where she has Batman stuck on his knees while Gordon chases the bomb was super powerful. Especially with the music

Riddler and Bane are tied in second place. I can't choose because they are both a different kind of evil. Bane literally destroys you and doesn't hide. Riddler though is way creeper with his approach. Truly a silent killer. I don't know which is more terrifying.

@@starnerd064 Michelle Pfifer's Catwoman is WAAAY better than Ra's al Ghul, Bane and Cobblebbot. And she's a more fleshed-out character than the Riddler (although admittedly, nowhere near as villainous.)

The worst would 100% be Tommy Lee Jones as Two-Face. As a massive fan of the character, I absolutely cannot stand his version of the character. People love to say that Jim Carrey was too over the top, but god damn Jones was just unbearably overacting.

All of the villains are really good except like firefly and mr freeze (bane isn’t that great either)

As far as performance and threat to batman and Gotham you'd have to go joker (TDK) bane (tdkr) and riddler (the batman)
All three would have completely destroyed Gotham and all three were compelling and well portrayed. You gave bane a bad wrap because of his ending but rewatch that film and just look at what tom hardy can make you feel just by his eyes. Incredible acting by hardy.
All three I mentioned were acted out so well and all 3 could have easily defeated batman or brought down Gotham.
My favourites are Jack Nicholsons Joker, Danny Devitos Penguin, Pfeiffers Catwoman, Scarecrow, Ledgers Joker, Bane, Colin Farrells Penguin, and of course the Riddler. I love every one of these portrayals so much, with Devitos Penguin and Ledgers Joker being my all time favourites

I genuinely loved the Batman but the fact that we won’t get to see a Batfleck solo movie is a real bummer. Not getting to see Batfleck in a movie with Leto’s Joker is even more of a bummer
I would love Afleck Batman vs Jared Leto or Joaquin Joker. Such a shame
Something that was recently studied and observed about Bane and Talia and why it was essential for them both to be in the movie is that where Bane acts as everything Batman could have become, if he had followed the ideals of his mentor, Talia is the flip side as what Bruce could have become, a rich unassuming sex model who was able to infiltrate Gotham. Neither is she above him nor he her. But they both act as the reflection of what could have happened to Bruce, even down to the mask and unassuming billianaire. I hope that puts a new perspective for you.

I agree with most of your list but Colin Farrell penguin over Paul dano riddler does not make sense for me. The riddler was way more promenade menacing and compelling. While Colin Farrelll was cool riddler was the main threat and did it perfectly.
Colin Farrell was the better performance, I didn’t even know it was him while watching. The riddler made me laugh more than feel terrified.

This could be a hot take but I personally enjoyed the Riddler more than Ledger’s Joker. Dano absolutely nailed all the mannerisms that made him seem genuinely insane.

How I just found this I have no idea.. great video! I disagree on a few things but I dig how your top 3 is exactly the same as mine! It's eerie I've never found anyone like me in that way, it's freaking cool! :). I really enjoyed this and love your energy, subbed and I'll be around more. Just a few things:
-Your way too hard on Carrey's Riddler. I've always felt and it's aged with me over time, that he was honestly quite effective as Edward, a little more so than Dano. Dano's problem for me he was a little too whiny in the backstory portions and with the clues but I do love how violent and sadistic he was, perfect fit for that movie. Carrey's Riddler is honestly more relatable to me, while I did feel sorry for Dano's orphan backstory I feel that takes away his impact overall, he woulda worked better if he was a true psycho with no backstory. Just some random genius who goes psycho with a bloodlust vs wealthy and powerful people, it woulda helped make him more prefect imo. That's what Jim's Edward is and it works so much better for it. He's just an average nutjob with a idolation crush gone insane, and he sells it so good. He's a victim in the mental sense who needed help but slipped through the cracks, and he gains all that power. The tech aspect I do agree needed a little more time but with how culture is with all the media and tech much like The Cable Guy with Carrey the next year, it makes it all more impactful. It is kinda scary now given how much we depend on tech now. Plus he and Val had solid chemistry together, more so than Dano and Pattenson.
-I don't really dig TDK's Harvey that much either.. largely due to Eckhart's performance. Never found him to be that strong of an actor and he didn't really reach to the highs that Harvey deserved. He was written solidly but Aaron never really got there. He made him in my POV a little too whiny even when he's supposed to be good, I never really felt sorry for him that much once all the bad stuff happened and he and Maggie didn't have great chemistry. Recast him with someone more likeable I think it woulda been a perfect movie. Batman's sacrifice for me is a little hollow because he doesn't really do that much great things in it, plus how his personality was.
-I do like you ranking Arnold's Freeze the highest though of those movies, honestly I never found him to be awful, he just gets punished by the movie around him. Take the one liners away and the song scene away it's a quite even grounded performance in a bright movie. He really nails the sadness well enough for what Arnold could do, and he was really sympathetic. His good guy turn at the end is super unique to the series and a true highlight of Batman on film.
-I honestly never considered Colin's Penguin a bad guy in a classical since, more like a loveable ahole anti hero. He steals the show when he shows up and was hilarious (he made all of us laugh super hard at my first showing during the car chase and the resulting integration scene, that was pure gold.) But yet him being high up doesn't bother me, he's a true standout. Bane from Rises is a little too high and Hathaway's Catwoman is way too high, personally I'd rank Ra's highest of the non Joker Nolan baddies but that's just me. Ra's is one of the best badass mentors in all of film imo, Neeson really seemed to enjoy it and he made the most of it.
-Anne's Cat works more for the sex appeal than the actual impact to the film. Anne never looked better than in that scene with the pearls, it even got a reaction out of the audience when I first watched it. Besides that she never was any count to the movie. Her and Bale had no chemistry at all and their characters didn't seen like believable to be with each other. She had nothing that Rachel had, Rachel was that Bruce's perfect fit, Selina was nowhere a fit for him at all. I honestly don't understand what Nolan was thinking with the character. Either they were forced to include her and to protest he mis-used her on purpose, or he had a strong desire to use Anne and it just wasn't a good fit despite their best intentions. You could read her twists a mile away, just a badly used character.
Gotta say as of right now my favorite is either Bane, Freeze, Man-Bat, Penguin, or Riddler (Note: I’m not talking about the movies since I haven’t seen some of them)
i haven’t watched this video yet, but my top 2 DC villains are heath ledgers joker and paul dano as the riddler.
obviously Heath is number one on my list BUT, if the riddler had more screen time he probably would’ve been number one on my list.
i loved his character and i loved how paul dano portrayed him, and don’t even get me started on his outfit. I LOVED his costume so much and i want to see more of it, which is why i hope we actually get to see more of him in the next batman films (if they even plan to keep him in)

I think Paul Dano’s Riddler is higher for me. Like Heath Ledger’s Joker, he is more than just a villain. He is a symbol of the unfortunate people in Gotham who are inspired by Batman to get vengeance. He makes Batman realize that he must stand for something else, like hope, to be a true hero in this city.
I will ❤️ Batman always & forever. Been part of my life 33 of my 41 years. Collected those 1989 Taco Bell cups and Batman action figures. Was into Batman 8 years before I got into SW in 1997 with the SE. Julie Newmar is still my favorite Catwoman.

I agree with the top 2......I did like two face in DK but I feel he deserved to be a major foe in his own right not just a tool of the joker....Riddler in the batman was cool as well....I think Penguin from returns is underrated I get why its dramatic departure from the comic origins but I thought devito brought a different but interesting much more tragic take.

Ra did help train him to be Batman, but he mainly helped train his mind , when Bruce shows up to his temple he fights Ra and already knows multiple forms of combat which means he already been training for awhile at the beginning of the movie he beats the hell out of like six guys, what he had not been training was his mind and that's where he really helped him. Yes he did teach him other forms of combat and helped build his physical form, but alot of it was helping him build his mind and showing him how to turn his fears into strengths. Great video though. I would put Ra a little higher just because like you said how important he was to Batman.

I think that Uma could have been a great Poison Ivy under good direction, like remember Ivy from the Arkham games. I think that Uma could have nailed that kind of more serious take on Poison Ivy.

If you watched all my Batman reviews, you'd have a VERY good idea how my rankings would go. But the reality is that my rankings get 10 times as many views as my retro reviews. So the rankings are old news for the committed fans, but it's all new information for new viewers and more casual fans.

I hate when they “listen to the fans” I think it sets a dangerous precedent where these incels at home who have no concept of how movies get made, are telling themselves they’re changing things and making movies better. If the director is adapting an already beloved series they shouldn’t be looking at what all the other fans say, they should ALREADY BE a massive fan. Why would you want to remake something if you aren’t a fan of the material? That’s the problem with a movie like death note, it isn’t that they didn’t “listen to the fans” it’s the fact it wasn’t being MADE by real fans.
I know we're still in Batman phase right now. I'm ready to buy The Batman gear and it's not even my favorite Batman film but Pattinson is my favorite Batman. But I hope Sean ranks Star Wars stuff. Updates on older rankings.

Uma was the only one who understood what the script was. She knew from the beginning it was a campy & colorful goofy movie. She said she took inspiration from Mae West, and didn’t take the role too seriously.
