I never have seen this movie and I was a bit skeptical when I saw that you mentioned a cartoon, but that sea creature's face under the water was very creepy.

Great video and great example that something doesn't necessarily have to be horror to include terrifying moments. Having never seen this movie, I was skeptical at first, but nope, you're absolutely right. Probably made even MORE horrifying in context because you're not really expecting it. I think what really works so well in that scene is the framing and the pacing - the kid wordlessly pointing, then the cut to the extreme wide shot showing how utterly dwarfed by the monster AND the sea those two are, then the shot of the monster's face filling the entire screen as it just.....fades away from sight. Really fantastic filmmaking in just a few shots. Definitely going to check this video out now - and checking out more of your stuff!

Nope was a great subversion of the UFO mythology. It's also an science fiction retelling of Moby Dick

The creepiest scene of the year 2023 for me was to watch helplessly as the director of the W.H.O. went off the deep end. You could feel it while you watched his facial expressions slowly change, from diversity to fully frozen in terror. As if he had seen a future of diversity and human freedoms over which he had no control. No one was willing to admit it for months that there was something seriously wrong going on here. And that is more terrifying than any sea beast - the knowledge that this can happen to anyone. Thanks for the video and for finding the catalyst scene in Sea Beast. Best wishes to you from Ásgeir in Iceland.
