    Thank you for your honest review. You’re correct by saying everyone loves it and there is not a lot of negativity. Before buying the 100V, I scoured the internet looking negative points. This honest review would have helped, but after owning this camera for 7 months, I love it. It’s making me consider ditching Nikon and switching to Fujifilm.

    I agree. I bought it because on paper it looked amazing but I quickly found out that I hate 35mm eqv so I quickly sold it again but wanted to stick with Fuji cause I love their cameras and lenses. Now I just own the X-T2 and it’s amazing.

      That is my concern as well - I would prefer a 24mm full frame equivalent but nothing really comes close (ok, a Q2 but there are issues there with them baking in noise reduction into their raw files costing detail which annoy me). I have an x100v on order/waitlist but I doubt Santa will be bringing it this year!

    Regarding the single point AF. Just make the AF point bigger. You set it up to the smallest. But since it uses contrast for focusing, this is not recommended. The AF is actually better than most other Fuji cameras, if you ask me. And the hit rate also.

    Great recap!! Only thing I think is a dealbreaker for the x100 series (and the XE4) is that these being also like a prosumer niche should at least have some software IS capability. Most people would use these in family trips as well as casual shooting and it's really frustrating you can't take some half decent, handheld footage of your kids or a walk in some market. Even $150 phones have some sort of IS today and I bet the lack of it hurts Fuji's sales a lot on these cameras... as well as my feelings...

    • @joeljenkins9424
      @joeljenkins9424 ปีที่แล้ว

      I wish it had IS as well for video but I just thought since it it would be home video I’m shooting handheld why not shoot 4K then try an editor stabilizer cropping to 2.5K? Might be the happy place.

    I'm pushing 72. Old dinosaur photographer, from the late 60s till today. Owned several cameras, from film to digital. When I came here, looking for some talk about this camera, I saw this young lad, and said to myself: Another kid talking his head out, flapping his mouth about Fuji. Boy... Was I EVER surprised!!! In fact, after visiting his site, I will take this guy back in time, give him a Leica rangefinder, and drop him, in a time capsule, back to the 50s, 60, & 70s, and say to him: There, get crazy, bro!!! What I dislike the most about the whole Fuji X100 series is how ridiculously overpriced it is, yes, it’s a nice camera, it has a great sensor and cool film simulations, but besides that, there isn’t actually anything else, it isn’t weather proof, movie recording isn’t impressive, focal length is always the same. It could be a perfect camera, but the prices makes it so inconvenient

    For me the biggest selling point is the fact it's a true leaf shutter lense, so the "click" is way quieter then a focal plane shutter. That alone makes the street photography aspect more inconspicuous and less likely to draw the attention of the subject, allowing you to get more natural shots.

    Dude, choosing the smallest AF point and pointing at a white piece of paper - seriously?😂 Battery sucks for you 'cuz seems like you shoot with rear LCD more, but it has to be shot with an OVF, which is the point. Even OLED EVF is better than the rear LCD, that was one of the main advantages over X100F, same battery, but much improved battery life, more than 400 shots with OVF is easy. Plus, tick off the boost mode to save more juice.

    • @philipae27

      Agree about the battery not being as bad as people say. I even keep boost mode on and primarily use the EVF. I'll tend to get around 1000 shots on a battery during high school basketball games shooting 6 fps continuous bursts. 400-500 shots while wandering around shooting city or landscapes.

    Great review, great samples. Yes, it has some flaws, mainly subjective ones. It's a magnificent piece of art, ,design and technology. The mechanical cherries it offers justify imo the price and are much appreciated; the 35mm equivalent choice is, after much thinking, the only right choice for this particular model.
    I have been owning it for one and a half years, yet it is not "MY" camera. 35mm is not my focal length. It doesn't handle the way I like. Yet often I find myself picking it up, as there is something irresistible about it.
    I was going to sell it as it can't be found these days and it's used value went up, but my wife won't have it. It's the camera she loves, just as she never made friends with "MY" never-to-be sold X-T2. There are many products on the market because we are all different in the end, and that's good.

  • @hajekjonas
    @hajekjonas 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    The loading (and waiting) after you take a photo is because of some effects (i believe it's mainly chromatic effect) the camera has to process. I bypass it by switching it in continuous low (CL) shooting mode under the drive button and setting it to lowest fps, which is 3fps. If you press the shutter button shortly, you will still take only one photo, but you don't have to wait until the camera processes the photo so you can take another one. Just a bypass, but it works. ✌🏻

    I’m going to echo what many others said and say you need to enlarge your focus point - you’re trying to capture contrast in a 100x100 pixel sized area on the sensor.
    Also don’t be such an ISO peeping snob, you’re missing out on beautiful noise that Fuji gives. You’re young and reviewing ISO as though you’re living in 2004 with the original Digital Rebel and Canon 10D when ISO 1600 was literally rainbows of noise on your photos.

    the x100v a P&S? thats blasphemy! ;) ps: all AF will hunt around if you point it a (almost) blank sheet of paper). when you do button mashing on the shutter button and make the square a bit larger it is great for single focus. I have the original x100 and its plenty fast enough for street photography, unless you are shouting in pitch blackness. i agree with using primes. Limitation is great for creativity. I like this camera, it basically replaced my Panasonic GF1+20mm/f1.7 perfectly, but it shares some negatives - lens is just a bit faster focusing, it makes noise ruining all videos which are not shot with fixed focus, but I knew what to expect and I already have G80 from Panasonic with many lenses for verstatility. But it's a bit bulky and uninspiring. I would add other, mostly minor, issues: it's quicky overheats doing 4K video in summer (with 30C ambient temp or even less) and white balance in low light is not consistent. Once sky is purplish, once gray, once blue. Once street lamps are yellow, once orange. Sometimes it takes lot of time to adjust to light change when you take lens cover off. Sometimes it even fails to expose photo correctly and has to be turned off and on. It's quite rare, one possible cause is aperture ring being slightly between positions, i don't know. But it has many improvements over GF1: touch screen, tilt display, way better low light performance,, focuses from maybe 3cm, resolution is higher and it's smaller. Yes, it's smaller than first small M4/3 camera due to lens. And it does not force you to buy a new lenses and eventually new, more ergonomic body to handle them.

    Good points with the negatives. I could never get comfortable with handling this camera, even after adding a grip.

    Great video Mike and a very balanced review, Being an old gezzer as I am I’ve used film cameras most of my time in photography so this is as near to analog as you can get with out the expense of film.

    you were focusing on a white surface. you're funny, the problem occurs also with other camera brands :)
    overpriced? probably, but not as much as the leica q2! and it's way better than the ricoh gr3!

    I need a fast answer... I'm in a big doubt about which phone to buy. My options are ralme GT master edition and Xiaomi note 11 pro+. I can't decide so I need someone to tell me which one of those has a better camera? That's everything I'm looking for. I just need an info about which phone has a better camera (photography, portraits, selfies and normal rear pictures of people and citys or streets) I hope that someone answers, thanks in advance! Also if you have a better suggestion for that price range I'm open to hear it!

    Even the Nikon Z50 beats the crap out of this camera.

    I liked the camera when I had it, my only problem with it was the images looked "flat" and that's because I'm used to that 3D-pop or Micro-Contrast from lenses like the 35mm 1.4, 56mm 1.2, 35mm F2.

    It’s not overpriced. Just that the features are hidden inside the camera. Most notably the leaf shutter and the built in ND filter. Combined with the fast and quality lens in this compact body.
    It takes a lot to explain to a consumer like myself though, when I first got the T, I was attracted to the size, the looks and the image quality. I didn’t find out about the leaf shutter until much later.
