    X100V user here. The trick with the app is this: 1) Turn on "wireless communication" in the menus. (This item is the last item in the "shooting menu" - the one with the little camera as an icon - on screen 3/3 of that menu. This is the key confusing point. Fuji should put this item in the "connection settings" instead.) Turning on "wireless communication" causes the camera to create a wi-fi network. 2) Go into the settings on your phone/iPad and connect to the new Fuji wi-fi network. 3) Now launch the Fuji "Camera Remote" app on your phone/iPad. 4) In the app, click on "Import images selected on app". You should now be able to see thumbnails of the images on the camera's SD card, and can choose which ones you want to import. The key part is step 1. The Fuji manual does a poor job of explaining this, I agree, but once you realize this point it is quick and reliable. This is a tip I picked up on a Fuji discussion board. Before learning this I had much the same frustration as you with the app.

      Gonna try this.
      The app functioning is an integral part of the workflow I imagined I'd have with my X-Pro3 and the app not working is a bummer.
      Hope this works for me! Thanks for sharing.

      @@TGCid01 Good luck! I assume it is much the same on the XPro3 though I haven’t tried it myself. Once you get that working, here’s another tip: You can put “Wireless Communication” in the “My Menu” for much quicker access to it.

    The best part of the x100 is the internal ND filter and leaf shutter. Gives the internal flash insane effectiveness, which you never get on a regular dlsr camera. Now you can shoot a portrait in full sunlight, F2.0, fill in flash, and gorgeous results. And it all fits in one hand. It's a marvel, this camera.

    Great video! My X100V is my favorite camera of all time! It has rekindled my love for photography! It is not the perfect camera for all situations. It often makes me think out of the box to make it work for the specific situation. I have since sold all my “professional” canon gear including my array of canon L glass. It is the only camera I now own and could not be happier.

    I managed to rent the original X100 and despite its age, it was very enjoyable. For those who believe 26 megapixels aren't enough, the 12-megapixel sensor on the original X100 have proven to be enough for social media sharing.

    I've owned the X100 3 times and every time loving it. It's not just some "hype", but a really amazing lens, and usable features for the price and size that makes photography enjoyable, especially the newest V. There's also that amazing (ok I'm superficial) good looks and its colour rendering and simulations. There are limitations, but again, you can't really pack more into the same size.

    • @alanc6416
      @alanc6416 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Oh, I did get the original lens hood and a protective filter to make it weather resistant. I was worried about the size and weight initially, but the hood is actually pretty much the same weight as the cap, and the filter weight is negligible, but it makes the photography much swifter and enjoyable. So I do recommend the original hood (some prefer the JJC but I just like original stuff, but I'm superficial remember?) Do remember to take off the hood when using the in body flash as it blocks the light, and the hood seems easy to be dropped or lost, but so far it's stayed on the camera.

    As someone who isnt a photographer but just loves taking photos. Ive been wanting to buy a camera for a while now, the thing that appeals to me about the X100 line up is. It is what it is. When ever i look at buying something like an XT2 used or something similar i have to buy a few lens’ I can see how that get expensive really quick especially for a hobbyist who isnt fully sure on what they want and going out on a trip with 4 different lens wondering which one to use.
    The X100F was the top of my want list but I think the weather sealing has really made my want the V. Great camera

    I switched to this camera after having Sony a6400 half a year ago, and so far I think it’s the best purchase I’ve done. The pictures quality and the feedback I get from my friends definitely worth it. I enjoy every second of using it due to incredible handiness and charm of film simulation.
    The APP sucks, yeah, I barely use it, but you can prioritize a transfer order from the camera and they will be transferred to your phone while the camera is not in use.

    One thing you forgot to mention is the leaf shutter. It has a max shutter speed of 1/1600 (practically) because anything faster cuts the bokeh into a leaf shape.
    But yeah, Fuji film simulations are a game changer. I was on a 2 week trip, rented the A7R4 + 35mm GM for 7 days. Guess what, I returned the A7R4 in 4 days because I just enjoyed my Fujifilm far far more.

    I got my way into the fuji ecosystem with a x-t4. Ended up getting the x100v because I really liked the retro aesthetic and I can't keep my hands off of it. As much of a beast the x-t4 is, I always find myself taking the x100v everywhere! It really makes you want to take pictures with it.
    Also, you absolutely nailed it with the Fuji app. It is absolute trash in its current state. And I've used the early versions of canon's app in the past. Honestly, your best option is to just get a usb-c/lightning to SD card dongle. Much faster to transfer files straight of camera that way than to rely on the app.

    There's actually 5 stops of neutral density setting. Fuji cameras all come with one stop of digital neutral density filtering by setting the ISO to LOW since this does not in any way improve the IQ but just simply doubles your exposure. Funny I've never heard any Fuji reviews mention this. The ISO dial may say, "80," but the IQ is exactly the same as 160, so unless you need a stop of density filtering, don't bother. Might be useful info if you're out during the day with another Fuji body and want to open your lens up one stop, but that's all it does.

    You forgot to mention the lack of image stabilization. Not as noticeable with photography, but this little camera has incredible video features.

    Nice video. But I have to disagree about the AF. The Sony A6400 is far better than the Fuji. Although the AF on the Fuji is improved, the lense mechanism isn’t. Sony is still the class leader in AF, esp. in face and eye recognition. This said, the Fuji is, along with my Ricoh GRIII, my favourite camera. And you described very well what is so outstanding about the Fuji.

    Update the firmware on your V. 2.11 is the latest but even with 2.10 they fixed all the BT connectivity issues.

    I have this camera for a while, and I can confirm it's one of the best camera ever made, and the best looking camera ever, in my opinion. But I stoped taking pictures (from any camera) because of the practicality of smartphones. Fuji (or any camera maker) should work harder to make easier to upload pictures directly to smartphones or social media. What is the point of have those beautiful film simulations if we will have to upload everything on computer anyway? At least, they should make the app usable.

      I agree, this camera looks so good and wouldn't look outdated easily. The app is a pain that hopefully gets addressed soon.

    Forgive the noobie question lol. but does it handle macro photo for the occasional macro shot? Or is it able to focus quite closely?

    And yes, the Fuji-App is really terrible.

    At 5:20 mins around, you do mention how you can shoot jpeg with custom profile and also shoot raw. But if superimposed, are both raw and jpeg images of same size or fujfifilm does auto distortion and other corrections to jpeg and so superimposed images becomes different?

      I'm assuming somewhat soon, possibly this year, if we take a look at the launch timeline of previous Fuji X models

    • @professionalpotato4764
      @professionalpotato4764 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Probably not within this year. This year they are focusing heavily on the flagships (and new lenses) because right now it's a make or break situation for a lot of crop sensor companies. Fuji isn't in as much danger (relative to Panasonic/Olympus), but they are challenging the A7iv/R6 with their new dual X-H2 flagships.
      Not sure how the next X100 will be like because there will likely be 2 new sensors in 2022. This is what I've heard from local Fujifilm tech staff.
      [26mp stacked and 40mp non-stacked. 2 X-H2 models, new mechanical shutter capable of 30fps burst]
      And we know Fuji uses the same sensor across almost all models except for entry level bodies. The stacked version will never make it into casual models like the X100/X-T line (X-T5 replacing X-T30ii, entire X-T line becomes enthusiast line. X-H is to be the only pro series) , and we don't know if the current X100V lens can resolve 40mp sensors. It is crazy sharp, but idk if it's on the same level as the new 18,23,33 f/1.4 primes. We also don't know if Fuji will just throw a 40mp sensor into all the non-flagship line yet.

    I just picked one up used for 950.00 in the Silver and Black at a local camera store with less than 800 shots with a hand strap, the filter protector and hood with the booklet. This camera is still extremely hard to find and I got lucky.
    The app is horrible and I have it set up as OVF and I'm using the viewfinder only to save battery life. I echo all of your comments regarding this camera and it's film simulations.

    Older video but I am SO happy you mentioned the basically useless Fuji app!!! Why bother putting in bluetooth and wifi connectivity when the app doesn't work? Kind of left a sour taste in my mouth with the price tag...
