  • Hi, welcome to my channel, I did this video to show the group going about their business. This was a quiet morning everyone was nice and chilled and not up to much mischief! I love it how the chicks stay in their own little groups when mum has just left them to become independent. In the video we have fluff and her chicks, then Chers who has left them to there own devices and then Gemma and her Chicks. Mrs big blue is happily pecking away by herself, the chick sitting on the door is big blue's chick and then we have Misty and Gemma and then we have Bruno overseeing the whole group keeping everyone in line.

Chickens are the most grateful pets in the world. I am sure about this.
We keep a small hord of seramas (3 hens and one rooster) in our city garden in a large city in southern Germany. The rooster crows once in a while -but quite quiet- and no one of our neighbours has ever been bothered by it. And every now and then we give the mini eggs away to the "listeners" to keep peace - but it's a cool neighbourhood at all.
Seramas really are my favourite chicken race and just perfectly made for a larger city with small gardens.
And I don't know any other kind of chicken that are so trusting. You just gently grab them and they enjoy it to be with you.

Thank you for your comment and perfectly put, they are super friendly and perfect for the smaller garden they also don't eat everything in sight which my larger hybrid hens used to do 🫣😄.
You are lucky to be keeping them in a city, great idea to keep the neighbours sweet with free eggs, I'm in a large village but still worry about the neighbours however it turns out my new neighbours are more noisy than my cockerel but I still worry, luckily all my other neighbours I know very well and have told them all to let me know if the chickens ever disturb them and they all say they never hear them. I am also the door to knock on if they need an emergency egg!
Your Seramas sound as sweet as mine do they are just adorable little chickens 💕💕

Are the hens very noisy and loud, especially of they sense a predator?

    • @chucksnchicks
      @chucksnchicks  6 หลายเดือนก่อน

They can be noisy yes, especially when they lay an egg - the egg song & first thing in the morning or some of them are noisy if they just aren't getting their own way 😄. When they see a predator they do call they start off with what I'd call a light chuckle and if it doesn't go away they get louder, I can normally tell what they are calling about although sometimes I will run out if they are doing the predator call and it's a bucket that has fallen over 😆. If you see my latest video it's called - and they say Roosters are Noisy, I'm late one morning and the hens are kicking up a fuss. They also do a little predator call in my latest live video when our cat Izzy walks by but it's only a little chuckle as they do know Izzy ☺️.
Thanks for watching any other questions please feel free to ask 💕💕

How many rooster do you have. I just gave away 2 to the guy who gave me my start. I hen I rooster. She hatched 4 eggs and two chicks just disappeared and the 2 roosters went back to Ole man.

Hi, I just have one mature male and two young males at the moment. I used to have 3 mature males (in with different females) but due to Avian influenza and the biosecurity we have to stick to in the UK ie all runs to be covered and no free ranging in the winter, I had to reduce my groups as I didn't have enough room on our property. I have also kept small bachelor groups for a short while.
I'm sorry to hear you lost 2 chicks :-( how unfortunate, were they newly hatched?
I do hope I have answered your question, anymore questions feel free to ask and I will do my best to answer.
Thank you for watching, take care X

The two that disappeared were the prettiest of the 4. They were yellow and the male looked so handsome
Mine free range so it could have been birds or sticky fingers? Not sure didn't see any feathers anywhere. But the last 2 were all over their mother and she has hatched her 2nd batch and they were running all over them so I let the Lil man have them to do what he wanted. Are you supposed to let them inbreed. I started I roo, 1 hen so these will all be related. Is that a bad thing
Don't want 4 legged, two headed chick's running around.

Aww what a shame 😢, I have a Sparrow Hawk that regularly visits so I only let mine free range while I'm in the garden.
No you shouldn't end up with four legged two headed chickens running around 😆, alot of breeders do what we call line breeding where you breed Dad to daughter or Mum to son, Grandad to grandauter etc so if there are spercific traits you like and want to concentrate on them you can improve on them this way. Brother and Sister can be bred also but isn't done as much as unwanted traits or faults can come up more. Obviously you don't want to be doing this over and over through generations so it's always advisable to add some new unrelated stock when you can. My Rooster is unrelated to all his females but I have one female that is related to him that I want to breed back to him to see if I can get more of his feathering. Hope this helps and good luck with your flock 💕
