The bigger Serama eggs are from the older hens. It’s actually better for the growing chick inside- that the shell is not too small, although a bigger egg sometimes means a bigger chick, and bigger Serama as an adult. At least, in my experience it seems that way. Hatching baby seramas is addictive and great fun. I’d have hatches all the time if it weren’t for the fact I’m at full capacity already. Wonderful chickens! Thank you for sharing.
Thank you for the information. Our seramas always laid eggs on the small side and I had never seen such a big one before. I think when Sweet Pea, who hatched from the large egg, grows up, she will probably eventually lay larger eggs herself. She was indeed much larger than her siblings when newly hatched and has grown well. I also wish I could hatch more as it was such a precious experience, but I feel I am at full capacity with my little flock. Maybe one day in the future! Thank you for your lovely comments. Best wishes.
@@r.k.dreamingspetchickens1266 I have a chicken story I think U will enjoy! I've had a flock of around 10 Old English brown&black for over 10 yrs and whenever there are babys i let them grow up here in the house w me until they get big enough the others won't pick on them, so they become as tame as you could expect from a chicken. But when i let them run around the back yard every evening they will take off if i try to catch them... all but 1 rooster(Chickenboy)... he is so tame that no matter where we are i can walk right up to him and hold my hand down and he will hop on. You know how "they say" when a critter is born it thinks the 1st thing he sees is his mama? Well, Chickenboy was a rescue chicken, I had to rescue him from his egg, it was too hard for him to peck his way out, so he probably thinks I;m his mama
How nice! I just lost my last serama, Chirpy Peeperson. She was outside enjoying the first summery day and a bird attacked her through her cage. We are sad. I think we will order some eggs if it is still legal, and raise another family. I enjoyed watching your video. God bless!
My Serama just began to lay on her eggs we had a total of nine but her boyfriend turbo was kicking the Pine chips and through three of the eggs against the wall so we lost those but we have six that are good to go I hope she continues to lay on them until they are hatched.

@@PeriodinstrumentfaN Your right - he was so sweet as a baby. He grew up to be a rooster, Mr Snuggles. I think maybe he was friendliest even as a tiny chick because he was braver as he was a rooster? Not sure :-)
Hi Baka, they were my sister's silkies and recently got a new home with a lady who had a lonely silkie rooster who needed company. Do you keep silkies?
@@r.k.dreamingspetchickens1266 Yes, I had previously bought a pair of chicks of different breeds; polish, golden buff Orpington, white bantam cochin, white silkies. I was eagerly waiting for them to grow old. Sadly my mother made me give them away. I'm just a student and raising chickens require a lot of care. Especially when one of my 3-month-old buff orpington chick died all of sudden, I was heartbroken and gave them away😢. Now I can only curb my fluffy pets carving through these youtube videos. 😂
@@ayeshaakbar772 Aaw. Glad you have youtube to watch them on and hopefully you will have more time to raise chickens in future. Good luck with your studies in the meantime. Sorry to hear your chick died so suddenly - that must have been hard, and worrying to not know why. I think if you love raising chickens then you will have them again when the time is right for you. Best wishes.
Hey I hope you reply to this I have my hen about to hatch her eggs and this is my first time breeding bantam she has been laying under the eggs but one of the chicks already made a pip and it’s been like that for a day should I worry or what should I do?
Hi Ivan, sorry for the late reply. I havent checked my youtube channel in a long time. How did this work out for you? I hope the chick was okay and that you had a good hatch. It is so hard to tell what to do if an egg pips and then nothing further happens. I read somewhere that after the chick pips the egg it takes a long rest to recover some energy and then it can be many hours until they start working on zipping the egg open. Wishing you all the best.
Hello my name is Justin Chojnacki and I hatched eggs awhile ago and one of the chicks looks just like yours what breed of eggs did you hatch, I’m so curious
Hi Justin, sorry for the delay. I have been off youtube for a while. Mine are serama chickens. The newly hatched chicks weigg from 12 to 20 grams and are very small. What did your chick turn into in the end? Did you find out what breed yours was in the end?

Wow so 20 days? Do bantams take 21 days to hatch like regular chickens or less because my hen has been broody for 19 days and I've been expecting them today
Ours took 21 days. Serama brooders online have said that sometimes serama eggs can hatch as soon as 18 days (possibly using incubators that might be set a tad warmer?) but it varies, and can also be 21 days or even a couple of days longer than that. I would say wait your 21 days and maybe even a couple of days longer. Your hen will know when her eggs are done hatching (she can hear the peeping chicks inside the shell and feel them moving around inside). Isnt it amazing that all of that chick development takes just 3 weeks?! :-) Good luck with your hatch.
@@r.k.dreamingspetchickens1266 oh so it also depends the breed I wanted to check her eggs with a flash light when she was eating and drinking water but as soon as she saw me going for her eggs she jumped on her nest and screamed at me and I like my fingers so it's best to wait 😅
@@r.k.dreamingspetchickens1266 update my chicks hatched last saturday in 22 days 5/7 eggs hatched but one chick passed away today so im down to 4 chicks
My serama pullet is broody now. Her name is also Artemis. Her feather's color is also creamy white, like this cutie. I named her Artemis after watching this video several months ago.
Did you find out what breed yours was? Serama eggs can be white or a bit more peach/creamy and weigh around 22-24 grams on average (although the largest serama egg I saw was 30g)
You should have done this at night while she's sleeping sitting on them; this way she wouldn't notice as much and would be less stressed thus reducing the risk that she could abandon the eggs.
Hi Alexander, I'm so sorry to hear your chickens died. It is so sad when a pet dies. Mine are my pets and are not for sale. I hope you manage to find some chickens elsewhere. All the best.
I hope your chick is doing well. Is it just by itself? Chicks are often happiest with the company of a mother hen or chicks their own age. Good luck with your chick. Enjoy her :-)
