    This was so fascinating to see. I had to laugh when your cat pawed at the incubator- that's exactly what mine would do!

    Amazing footage of the chicks hatching. The moment that first leg popped out! And great job saving that last chick. Thanks for sharing :-)

    Sometimes they need some help. You should spray them with some purified water.

    Wow what an incredible video! I was really cheering that last one on!! Glad you could help it out of its egg 🙂

      Thank you! we gave it our best shot, there's serious risks to opening a shell on a chicks behalf, you can cause them to bleed out where the membrane is still connected. This was actually part 1 of a 3 part series if your interested in seeing the rest of the journey :)

    You are so lucky. I Tried to get some eggs but they are extremely rare in my area in east europe...after a year of searching for them i finally found a breeder but was extremely far away...bought some and Got delivered via Mail.....2 days before they needed to hatch .they all died....😪

    I was so scared for the chick that needed a little help to hatch, awesome work freeing it with the foreceps so it has a beteer fighting chance!

      We tried out best! When your watching them hatch first hand like this it's hard not to intervene, giving it a shot at survival was worth it in our eyes 🙂

    The last one, it might have shrink wrapped when the 2 other chicks were taken out. I leave the eggs to hatch for an extra 2 days without opening the incubator as it might shrink wrap the pipping chicks 👍🏼

      It was a while back but we have always been super conscious about opening an incubator. If I recall correctly we moved Bill and Ted out well before the last egg even pipped. Thanks for commenting and watching our videos 😊

    Its one year you posted but hope will get answer , i lost so many serama eggs(dead in shell) can you please tell me yours temperature/humidity/days ,i use 37.7temp,75 humidity all days,stop auto turning at 18 days,rest of breed eggs hatched but never serama 1 year plus age

    • @Helsteeds
      @Helsteeds  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hello Aftab Ali, sorry to hear you've been having issues. I have heard that they are a hard breed to hatch, we only incubated 6 and 3 hatched as you've seen watching the video. Our temp was 38 but during the video it shows it around 37.9 but this was just because it was warming up after turning (which we done manually 3 times a day just 180 degrees). Our incubator is pretty simple and has no humidity control, there are two rings for pouring water which only one was kept filled until the last 3 days when turning stopped (about day 17) and within a couple of days they hatched. No real exact science perhaps we were lucky. One thing we were told is it's very important to let them sit for 24 hours after they have arrived and before you start incubating. Good luck if you try again 😉

    Why you writing the egg shell

    • @Helsteeds
      @Helsteeds  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Rochelle so we know which one's have been turned. They are turned writing side down in the morning then writing side up in the evening. It helps make sure you've turned them all or not over turned any.

    Why you rayteng the egg

    • @Helsteeds
      @Helsteeds  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hello Rochelle did you mean to say Rotating? If so, it's because you need to move the air bubble inside of the egg, this stops the membrane from sticking to the side of the egg shell.

  • @johndowd7010
    @johndowd7010 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    People need to stop opening the incubator..shrink wrapping the chicks. They can Las 2 plus days without water and food.

    • @Helsteeds
      @Helsteeds  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Indeed we were very conscious of this, loosing humidity is what causes the shrink wrapping, and we are often surprised at some of the larger TH-camrs with how much they open theirs. We don't open ours if the eggs are pipped or hatching, the one that I helped break free as you'll see from part.2 had issues with it's legs so was never going to break free on its own accord, some say that this is why you should let them die in the egg but we felt we wanted to give it a chance.

  • @noodle9572
    @noodle9572 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Hatching eggs is not a game its a life, drawing on the eggs with permanent marker is a bad idea its highly toxic to porous eggs. Also the other eggs could be shrink wrapped. Thanks for the video but trying to make a video for good viewing usually results in bad practice.

    • @Helsteeds
      @Helsteeds  ปีที่แล้ว

      Thank you for your comment, I agree using a marker is not ideal, although we weren't soaking them in it and it's is rapid drying, I don't think we'd do it again we were new to it at the time but I also don't think the small amount used had any damaging effect. Serama eggs are notoriously hard to hatch so I think we quite successful. And we were very conscious of was shrink wrapping which is why we didn't open the incubator until we thought enough time had passed and that the one struggling needed assistance. Thanks for stopping by ☺️
