Thanks for posting! The Creamback adds a nice fullness without sacrificing the rest of the sound palette, it gives the amp an overall warmth and richness.
Just installed a creamback M65 in my DSL 40cr and it sounds fantastic. The v type was okay but not quite what I was looking for . It was a just a little to thin and bright for my liking and not quite spongy enough. The creamback solved all the issue I did not like with the amp . The tone is now fuller and has more body. I love low mids. I really love that low mid grunt and growl and that nasal vowel sound you get with heavy low mids . The v type just did not have the low mids like. The amp sounds more classic marhsall now and I find the red channel much more useable now it's got more body and is alot less mushy and alot less fizzy . I would like to try the v type in a closed back cab . The creamback in the dsl combined with my vintage 30 loaded orange one by 12 sounds even better then just using the combo speaker alone. Its sounds so huge and full . You get the low mids of the creamback and the upper mids of the v30 and it just sounds very full and balanced . I like the creamback so much in the combo I now want to get a 1 by 12 closed cab with a creamback 65 to pair with it . I love open back but usually like closed back a little better. If the creamback sounds better in a closed back cab then it does in an open back that would be an amazing sound .
Did the creamback fix the Flubby bass? I'm tired of fighting my E-strings and that bass warble. I'm DEF missing that classic marshall tone too. Sounds like the creamback helps with that!
@vin9976 In my dsl20cr tamed the harsh highs and gives a good round mid and low. Now I put the bass on 2 and treble on 8. And my charvel with dimarzio 36 th anniversary is the opposite to a les paul. Now sounds round. 70/80 is not for the dsl
So many vids on switching out the V type speaker on this amp when I think the real issue is with user expectations/awareness on tube amplification and dialing in a great tone. Pro Tips: This is not a bedroom or apartment amp. 40 tube watts will peel the paint off your neighbors walls. The stock speaker is perfectly tuned for this amp/cab but; (1) Out of the box, the speaker sounds super stiff and thin. You have to break the speaker in by playing it loud. After about 2 hours at 50%+ volume the speaker opens up a lot. 10+ hrs at moderate volume and the tone is glorious. I have run the amp through 4 different cabs to test against different speakers..the stock setup sounds the best by a long shot imo. (2) add an attenuator to your setup so you can run the amp like a Marshall wants to run... ie, driven and loud. (3) get off the low power settings and turn your masters to at least 50% (4) dial in your sound based around the 12 o clock position on the gain and eq knobs. Your mileage may vary but imo amp needs very little eq adjustment to sound great. (5) as always, guitar & pickup selection plays a role. A squier strat with cheap single coils is still gonna sound like poo through a nice Marshall.
Hi John, its great you've got some deep experience with the DSL40CR. Mine has a pretty soggy bass end. Any open E-string and it sounds kind of dark and flubby in like an E minor open chord. Little articulation and tightness. I know I can throw a pedal on to try to fix this like many do, but that's not the Marshall way. I get my gain in the amp. Is there a fix to this? I see plenty of people trying to deal with it by dropping their bass EQ to nearly zero and resonance as well. Even very accomplished gigging musicians (the intheblues guy does this). I'm also not digging the scooped, modern tone. It doesn't have that flavor of my buddies even JCM2000 (which isn't super nice). I guess the speaker could use a break in maaaybe (I bought it second hand and its 5ys old so I assumed it was broken in)? Any advice would be helpful. Ultimately it'll never do a plexi tone but I was hoping to try some of that high gain AC/DC tones from their 80's tunes. Maybe that's too tall of an order tho.
@@vin9976 wow, for me the amp sounds sick. I run the eq controls essentially all at noon and just tweak the mids, presence, and resonance. Tone shift knob out. My fav channels are the green classic gain and the green ultra gain. I drive a Weber Mass III attenuator and have a L6 HXFX in 4CM. Oh, I bypass the speaker and instead push a Peavey 212-C cab with a V30 & a G12-T 75. Thoughts: 1) maybe check your bias...i think i run ~35ma 2) put an EQ pedal in the effects loop and sculpt your tone.
@@hybridjohn1 I'm always on the red classic channel (trying to get a low-ish gain ACDC sound). Maybe its that channel that's giving me grief and I just need to jump over to the green over drive channel. Hows the red classic channel for you with medium gain on an open E-minor?
Replaced the v type in mine with a creamback 65 now I need another 1 by 12 I can put the v type in I think they would pair perfect together for a very balanced tone on it's own I found the v type a little thin and fizzy but I think putting it in a closed back cab would solve that and the creamback would mask some of that
Has anyone experienced weird things if you are dropped tuned and like play to much bass it kind of cuts out a split second or something? kind of hard to explain.. I took the first one back because I thought there was something wrong with it. they sent me a new one and it does it to

Creamback sounded so Much richer on the cleans and tighter and less fizzy on high gain! More head room with the cream back! Was that your impression in the room?
@@JoaoNuno1995 the v-type has more headroom and sounds more open, the creamback a bit darker and mellow/sweeter. the creamback/greenback is one of the reasons for the "classic" marshall sound people think of, but both can sound close to each other when eq-ed accordingly.
Hi. I own a DSL 40 CR... I find the ultra channel has a bit more treble than the classic channel. When Im on ultra channel I tend to back off treble and presence and when im on the classic channel I back them on again... do you feel the same way? does the cream back solves the problem?
I just purchased this amp and hate the v-type speaker...its waay too fizzy...thin...and lacking bottom end. I ran the amp through a 1×12 open back cab loaded with a vintage 30 and it made a huge difference...now im thinking of getting a cream back...lol... I'm sure anything would sound better than the V-type...

Gotta say like them both but I'm impressed enough with the v type that I am keeping it in mine. If i do anything else I'd probably build a 2x12 with greenbacks.
The difference is hard to hear on a you tube video due to the compression but this was not recorded very well either . The diffrence is far more substantial in person . I like the v type but I fan tell you in person the diffrence is quite substantial . It also takes alot longer than 3 minutes to to get a sense of the differences. Once you spend a serious amount of time with the amp after the swap it becomes much more apparent especially when you start trying different settings . The creamback responds very differently then the v type when you start playing at louder volumes and higher overdrive settings and distortion . The creamback is darker thicker fuller and less fizzy and does not mush out At lower volumes and drive settings they sound white similar but sound very different when you push them hard . The creamback needs to be pushed harder to hear its unique qualities. Its sounds better with pickups that have more output

try adjusting your pickup height. I noticed this when I installed a JB into my LP. Adjusted the pickup height down a little and it stopped.

No the v type will give you better headroom..The creamback breaks up slightly easier..i know as i have used both on this amp

Joao Nuno seems like the CB sounds much fuller on both clean and overdrive. So in a sense yes. I’m definitely going to buy this.
