  • The Mazda CX-30 is a subcompact SUV that we added to our long-term fleet back in September 2020. In this video, Travis Langness from Edmunds reviews the 2020 Mazda CX-30 after living with it and logging 15,000 miles over the past year. Travis talks about what we liked and didn't like about Mazda's small SUV and discusses how well it drove and what maintenance and recalls we dealt with. Is the Mazda CX-30 a reliable and smart choice for your next SUV purchase? Do we consider the CX-30 to be one of the best subcompact SUVs after driving it for a year? We answer these questions and much more. This is our long-term wrap-up review of the 2020 Mazda CX-30.

      I just bout one a couple months ago. I love it except that there is not enough space. I end up hitting my head getting in if I don't duck. The trunk is too small and the back seats don't have enough space for legs when I move my seat for my 5'2" height. I'm looking to get it paid off asap to buy another car.

      I bought my Mazda CX30 January 2022. On July 1st, 2023 without any warning, I tried to start the car and it could not start. I got a message saying push button malfunction. Today is July 4th and the dealers cannot get the car out of my garage to take it down to the firm to have it checked out to see what is the problem. If anyone had similar problem, please let me know how you resolved it.

    I get why people knock the infotainment controls but it actually ends up being nice once you get used to it. No fingerprints on the screen, and you don't have to blindly poke at the screen while you're driving. With the Mazda system, you can see how many clicks you need to make and do that all without looking.

      Also you dont have to lean forward, stretch/strain your arms and touch screens are really annoying to use in motion. Still having both is better but I would take good physical controls over good touch controls any day.

      I agree. I dislike how many car manufacturers are going to touch screen. I like when you have both options. When stopped, use touch screen, and when driving use wheel. The wheel is easy to use without taking eyes off road as much. They say you can use voice commands but they don't work well for me. Why can't we have both? I think BMW keeps both. I wonder if more accidents happen if will go back to infotainment wheel and buttons for climate controls.

      Unfortunately I have to disagree on this one. Come on guys, I rented this car when I was in Iceland. It drove like a charm, no debates on this. However, when you need to write an address in detail (especially in places like Iceland, Germany where the street names are long or kind of weird), it takes unnecessarily too much time to enter it. Therefore, I just can't agree with the idea how "optimal/comfortable" to use the rotary knob for a purpose like this. But as said, except this drawback, I loved the car.

  • @44elisdad

    I got the 2024 CX-30 a couple of weeks ago. I love it. The only downside is that the trunk isn't big enough for a golf bag. The only way it fits without having the rear seats down is by taking the woods out. The bag then fits perfectly to the front of the trunk. My driver just about fits over the bag diagonally. It's just a little inconvenience, not a huge deal.

    The 2020 CX-30's (2.5 L AWD) front differential, has a major problem. The fill plug has a metal bracket that partially covers it. You cannot remove the plug as it is. Could you make a video that would show how to move the differential enough that drivers could do a fluid change? Mazda fixed the problem on the 2021 and newer CX-30's. Maybe it would be possible to swap a older bracket with a newer one? So far Mazda has blown me off for any kind of a fix. The dealerships have told me that the differential is "unserviceable". Own a 2021 since April. The issues are that the parking brake turns on every time the vehicle is stopped, something other Mazda's don't do. There is also the false low voltage alert that is too sensitive. I prefer the prior door handle as sometime difficult to open, particularly with winter gloves on. Finally, the ignition button bezel is black plastic and flush with the dash, and hard to find in the dark (at least was fixed with a 3rd party bezel, but the CX-5 is better designed with a recessed button and metal bezel).
    Overall, the vehicle drives great, is plenty fast even without the turbo, and handles with the heart of a Miata.

    I just bought a 2022 Base Model. Rather then call this vehicle a CUV I'd say it's more of a Hot Hatch. At under 24k MSRP I think it's a great value. Sure, it doesn't have a lot of bells & whistles but that means less electronic items to crap out later. It also has 16 inch wheels with taller profile tires so these soak up the bumps better then the lower profile ones on the higher CX-30 models. . I personally love the infotainment system. There is a learning curve of a week or so but as others have said in the comments here you don't take your eyes off the road to adjust. Overall it's a great car for me as I'm single under six foot tall. My only gripe is where the car was assembled: Mexico. @@simplysuelou2014 We all come in different shapes and sizes..100% the reason for that result :D though I have heard that the seats are uncomfortable but only about the leather ones. Aparently the leather seats can even push on your left leg from below so you have to sit kinda sideways and that in turn will cause back pain in the long run.

    Cars that tall people aren't sure that they can live with are often great for smaller people. Everyone doesn't need to chauffeur people who are 6'3" around all the time. If you're uncomfortable in someone's backseat, it raises the question, why didn't you drive?

      I own one, it delivers nearly ALL of the torque at around 2,500 RPM. It absolutely rockets when you mash the gas off the line. Once you get around 45-60 MPH tho it kinda becomes a lot more tame but still quick.

    • @digitaldoc100
      @digitaldoc100 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@CorruptIgnition8 I totally agree with your impressions. Mazda really tuned it for the low end, which is a nice improvement. I have the 2.5NA, and while it has plenty decent power in the CX-30, the engines needs to be revved as the engine really wakes up when you get beyond 4000 RPM's.

    I AM big right now-- 6'1" and heavy--but losing steadily on carnivore.. so will be in better shape soon. The mention of " less seating area" kind of concerns me. I'm GLAD the small screen is here-- BIG SCREENS SHOULD BE OUTLAWED.... I drove tow truck for years and 87% of the accidents I worked were CAUSED by some fool playing with a screen- and when you clean up a few accidents where small kids and babies are KILLED by the fool playing with the screen-- you would hate them too- and they are NOT necessary. They should be made so they will NOT work at all if the car is moving-- except for maps and camera backing up.

    To me- you can SEE the QUALITY in it--- whereas if you look at toyota and subaru comparisons, they LOOK CHEAP-- made of cheap plastics and sound "tin-ny" (no such word- but hopefully you can understand..) THE OBVIOUS quality in the making- and the REAL transmission instead of that Certainly Verified Trash (CVT) one-- makes this a no brainer.

    You make videos for 4,25% of the audience (Americans only) when you don't also include metrics. The big world outside of America evolved beyond imperial measures sixty years ago. Only little America never progressed beyond British oppression.
