  • In this video we install a CVT or Torque Converter onto the American Racer 215 minibike. It made a huge difference in it's ability to climb hills which will be essential for running the Gambler 100 mini bike enduro race!

People mistakenly call CVT's "Torque Converters", when they really have little to do with one another. A torque converter is a dampening link between two mechanically linked rotating shafts, which turns at the rate the input shaft turns at all times away from idle input (1: 0-1 ratio other than momentary dampening and idle). A CVT is what it does. It varies the input to output rotating ratios (1:V? ratio). A torque converter doesn't. A CVT might have a torque converter as an integral component, but a torque converter doesn't necessarily have a CVT connected to it.

    • @motomule

It's a comet torque-a-verter that got them all saying the absolute not even close thing. Try to teach people the right way to do things not the wrong way like many others. It's a CVT not a torque converter. You don't ever hear anyone saying they need to work on replace or tune the torque converter on a snowmobile or golf cart, because they don't have one. Only go kart and mini bike kids that are just saying what they hear on some not so experienced guys channels are calling a CVT a torque converter.
