    Good clutches. I've been using the same clutch for 22 years. Just needs to be cleaned out and relubed once in a while, whenever it starts sticking. Comet says it's good to 18hp. I have it on a 23hp Briggs. The belt slips a little bit but not enough to make me get a different clutch.

    Yeah, that bronze bushing needs to be wider. That's a major flaw and it's always going to have some level of stickage, especially once it gets worn. Needs to be at least double the current width, and it wouldn't hurt it if it was thicker too.

      @BubbaB43 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yes there is, idk if you've ever owned a 30 series torque converter or not but just like the 30 series the 40 series drivers have three different holes for setting the spring tention. The tightest position #3 is for straight up hill climbing, position #2 is for pretty much all terrain (this is also the factory setting, last is position #1 which is for flat ground/top speed riding. Hope this helps. Now the way I turn my 40 series that I currently run was drilling two extra holes in between the three that already existed basically giving it seven different positions. Because in my particular application I found that mine ran best between positions 2 and 3!

    • @BubbaB43
      @BubbaB43 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I was thinking the same thing, I've never owned a OEM Comet drive clutch but it's pretty much common sense just by knowing how the chinesium clones come apart. Spin the outer sheive while the unit is slid on the crankshaft without the retaining bolt of course lol, is that right?

    • @terryj257
      @terryj257 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@BubbaB43 yes, that's right. The cover turns with the nut welded to it, along with all the other stuff. Because when the engine side pulley closes, the belt moves inward. When the secondary side opens, the belt moves outwards. The spring need to face inward on the secondary. As it was designed to run. Only the 30 series TAV2 ect were designed to run with the secondary spring facing outwards. That's why it uses an asymetrical belt.
      Some idiot makes this wannabe TAV2 out of a 40 series and it's wrong because they don't understand that the reverse secondary spring exists incase the system turns the opposite direction, NOT so you can flip the secondary over.
