Dual Lock has many type. Don't buy the 400 type.... the "mushrooms" are very tiny and easily pull off if we pull it frequently. As we use it to secure battery we fall in that category. I use the 250 type, which works like a charm.
We make fixed wing UAVs and we use the 250 version on all our planes. Beware of transmitters that heat up though. The double sided tape does go loose with heat.
The comparison is not fair. He has to compare the 3M product with Velcro Alfa-lok, then Velcro is much better. Velcro has so much experience that they simply offer the best products
3M doesn't recommend that the 400 be mated to itself. Rather, the strongest combination is 400 with 250: multimedia.3m.com/mws/media/998834O/3m-automotive-dual-lock-rolls-datasheet-english-germany.pdf#page=4
I can attest that the high profile is crazy strong when trying to pull directly appart. I have seen two people tear finger nails loose trying to get this stuff loose at work.
When I originally put it on the USB hubs, I put a full strip on, and found I had to press too hard to get it to engage. I was worried about damaging my screen.
Besides being weaker, the other downside of the low-profile version featured here is a 150-cycle lifetime rather than a 1000-cycle lifetime, meaning that it loses strength through damage much more quickly if it's regularly re-connnected.
My local dollar store started selling this 3m dual lock velcro. It's beige color but it's 1/2 the price of the hardware stores so whatever :) What I found was trying to slide the battery back and forth is pretty much impossible. Pulling straight up it releases much easier than the industrial velcro. I use a battery strap to hold the battery down so I find this 3m dual lock stuff better than the hook and loop type velcro because the hook & loop eventually wears out.
I was interested to learn velcro alternatives. I wouldn't say velcro sucks. For your application I agree that dual lock work can work better vs velcro. However many applications that dual lock system simply just not a viable option.
I use this on my some of my builds and it works great, 2500mah 3s mounted underneath 2 small sections about 1x2 no other straps. Holds up to some pretty good impacts.
I don't use velcros bellow my batteries anymore. Just stick a soft rubber piece of something on your top plate, use 2 velcro ruberized straps as usually to hold the battery and it will not slip out anymore. I've been using the ping pong racket rubber. Very soft and sticky.
I use this for my plane batteries... just dual lock along the length of the lipo, no velcro or strap around the battery is required. In fact, the adhesion is so strong that i can lift the entire plane (1.2-1.5kg) by just holding the battery! I usually get this from HobbyKing
I picked up some of those lipo condoms which I've been using on my 4" quads instead of Velcro. They've actually worked very well to keep the battery from sliding under the strap and I like how easily the battery falls out once you loosen the strap. This stuff looks good though, I'll have to get some. Thanks for the info.
JOSH, I am 47 and have been doing bodywork my whole life as my trade and the 3m doublesided tape is great there was another brand of tape that has a superglue type of adhesive in the tape its used to restick molding on cars the only thing is once you stick it on and press it is on there!! it would tear fresh paint of a car if you tried to remove it! thank you for all your help answering my questions about multis and all of your great videos!!
It has amazing direct strength, but comes off as soon as you roll the item away. Awesome for holding a multi extension cable to the wall for chargers, strong enough to pull plugs out without any detachment
I had this kind of fixing on a controller of my motorcycle to control the lubricant of my chain. As it was new, it worked great. After a half year (and approx 10 uses) it holds my controller anymore. I would be careful using it. When the mushroom-heads getting bend, it's not strong enough any more. Be careful ;)
They're just two different things. The dual lock requires more force to engage. The hook loop, on the other hand, is weaker, but gets caught faster, and may suffice or even be preferred on lighter objects. Dual lock is not the be-all-end-all of fastening systems as some people seem to preach.
hi Josh. I've been using this for a while now on my quads in exactly the way you describe. what I have found thou is that sometimes in the crashes those mushrooms get sheered off and you have to replace the sticker. other than that no complaints

I'd rather have a little give when I move and have it stay on my body than no give but it can pop off if I catch on something.
I suppose it all has its applications, for example I can use velcro to attach lights onto the inside of a gun safe or like how some come with pouches, holsters etc. Attached onto the inside of the safe door and is kind of almost the only option, unless there are metal areas where a magnet will work. Otherwise I'd say that this stuff sounds like it out does velcro if you're looking for a pretty permanent or longer term application. Plenty of other uses I can think of, definitely one of things that's good to keep around or to keep a roll in the drawer..

Hey I like alle your videos! I learn. New things every time I watch you! I have 2 questions. How does dual lock compare to a Silicon anti slip piece? And from all your battery testing what are your top5 lipos?
I think the dual lock will hold better, but it does require sticking stuff to your batteries. Right now, the batteries I am most interested in are the Infinity graphenes from Banggood. The Indestructible Quads Black Label is a solid standard LiPo, although I think it is completely sold out right now.
Velcro has suffered the same fate as elastic (rubber) bands. The quality has dropped in proportion to the amount of cheap products available. Now you can get these things in the $ store it is hard to justify producing high quality products. The high quality stuff is out there but costs much more money. When I was installing cable in a data center a bag of 100 straps cost about $35 and had to meet very strict code, mostly about fire resistance, but they were also superior to the standard velcro you can find at consumer level.
For wrap straps, I think Velcro is fantastic. I've never really liked it for securing things to other things, but maybe I've just been using cheap Velcro.
Dual lock great on small things with large strips you can't get the whole length to reengage I used to attach VCRs to racing cars the best is 100mm wide High temp adhesive genuine Velcro. Try Dual Lock with Velcro loop massively strong but pretty permanent loops dont cope with parting from it
The blue velcro from HK is the best/strongest I have ever used and seems to last forever; hobbyking.com/en_us/polyester-velcro-peel-n-stick-self-adhesive-v-strong-1mtr.html
Is "Dual Lock" a special patented fastener that would require special permission to use in a new product? Is "Dual Lock" a generic name like "hook and loop"? And do you know if I can buy it in bulk from China?
Order on banggood for only $10, and it is worth the price to save a battery. Combine with a battery strap to keep it completely secure. www.banggood.com/RJX-Dual-Lock-Double-Sided-Attachment-Tape-Reclosable-Fastener-1000x25mm-Strip-p-1225071.html?rmmds=search&cur_warehouse=CN

@@DJURBANBG i think the sticky backing is fairly strong i only had 2 x pieces cut at about 40mm by maybe the width of the strip roughly 25mm one top and bottom I think they may pull paint off walls if not removed carefully. My picture frames were not huge though maybe A4 paper sized
@@brendan6093 so its strong enought , i want to use it to attach acoustic foam to the wallpaper , i`ll give it a try
@@DJURBANBG i would give it a go man but maybe test a panel first. If you plan on living there you could use a concealed screwing option im sure good luck with it
Was excited then I looked it up, $37 bucks was the only roll I can find...
Great stuff for holding on batteries, so good in fact I ripped a top plate off my quad when the battery strap broke :p
The Indestructible Quads Black Label is a solid standard LiPo, although I think it is completely sold out right now.
dual lock sometimes get mini broken.. with the time, it's not really perfect
I'm sticking velcros not a chance of using that stuff
i use SJ3550 - it a total crap, the adhesive layer sticks to heat-shrink tube of a battery very bad
is this Ethan Philips?
Velcro makes Alpha lock now
Velcro has suffered the same fate as elastic (rubber) bands.
Try Dual Lock with Velcro loop massively strong but pretty permanent loops dont cope with parting from it
The blue velcro from HK is the best/strongest I have ever used and seems to last forever;

Is "Dual Lock" a special patented fastener that would require special permission to use in a new product? Is "Dual Lock" a generic name like "hook and loop"? And do you know if I can buy it in bulk from China?
yeah i have been using it too for 3 years awesome stuff it doesnt wobbles either and doesn't have teo surface types like velcro.
ALFA-LOK By Velcro will be the future you need
Dual Lock is way more expensive though(in Europe).
Velcro good this good try some in durt put in mud dirty see how hold when wet or dirty good test
Dang. Dat price doh.
Order on banggood for only $10, and it is worth the price to save a battery. Combine with a battery strap to keep it completely secure.

Hell, you can find it on eBay for $4-5... if that's too expensive for you, you probably can't afford Velcro either...
Nice! Good info, thanks. Going to try this.
