I can't drill the mounting brackets into metal and really needed something sticky to hold up multiple lightstrips. The 3M tape absolutely did the trick despite all my worries. Don't know Scotty, but I am here to vouch for quality silicon wipers. I bought SilBlade 14 years ago, Texas summers and occasional freezes have barely phased them.
Not worth the video. Any filter only system will leave behind particles in the water (good minerals or bad chemicals). The only two proven consumer ways to get a ppm of 0, is reverse osmosis and distillation, both waste water and in the case of distillation requires energy. A typical Brita filter or similar is only for taste, it really doesnt filter any nasty stuff like lead.

Most food trucks I see run the Honda 2000W portable generators, with similar ones by Yamaha a distant second. The Honda ones aren't cheap at all, but they are QUIET, and I assume (just based on the brand and the fact that they seem to be the choice for heavier use applications like food trucks) that they are reliable.

The 3M VHB is often used for Dashcams because it's one of the few double sided tapes that consistently sticks between plastic and glass. And can hold up to the heat of being under a windshield.
@@ProjectFarm If you make a similar video, please test 3M's 4910 tape. By far the best 2-sided tape I've used. Will you be shocked by how well it sticks? Let's find out…
3M VHB RP62 is just a beast. I use it to mount solar panels on the roof of our RV. There are lots of 3M options, just be sure to get the kind for your project. The 3M RP62 allegedly is made to replace rivets and screws... which is insane to me. I have to say we have been 15k miles, through rain, snow, hail, lots of sun, and the 3M still flexs our fiberglass roof when I pull on the brackets holding the panels.
Just imagine the thousands upon thousands of cumulative dollars you have saved all of your viewers. You are doing an excellent and noble service to so many viewers, and have earned every subscriber. UROCK
Love watching your videos, Wish you could do Nut & Bolt testing. To see if really worth paying 8x more for quality bolts or will the standard 8.8 grade cheap ones are good enough.
There isn't a lot to test there, the fastening strength associated with the labels have a liability implication if they fail. Go rent a Skidmore tester and do it yourself if you don't believe the ratings.
Industrial grading is probably close to spot on. Buildings and structures are literally engineered to spec, and if hardware didn't meet spec it would be a catastrophe. Unlike most of the claims tested on this channel, industrial grading isn't marketing. But, would still make a good video.
He's gonna need more than that chain hoist to pull a bolt apart that's for sure. I say it just depends on the criticality of what you are building. Swing set? Grade 5 or metric 8.8 is plenty strong. Your car suspension? Spend the extra few cents on grade 8 or metric 10.9.
My lord you have no idea how valuable your tests are. I need a quick fix for a broken bumper clip. I've got it lined up just need the 3-4mm protrusion to be stuck back. But I can't have it indented, I also won't be able to key the surface so a wipe with 99% isopropanol will be it. Sorry for the unnecessary information. Much appreciation for your tests.
@ProjectFarm one thing that should be considered is ease of removal of the protective tape. I was using gorilla tape out on a field to secure signs. Surfaces were cleaned, keyed, degreased using a cleaner and once dry wiped once more with 99% isopropanol. I wore gloves too avoid oils or any contamination to the adhesive. Firstly the tape didn't adhere very well. Secondly removing the top tape was near impossible. Frustration is an understatement.
I love how you make your videos a fun, enjoyable experience from start to finish. I enjoy and giggle a lot to your videos. Thank you for spending the time to be thorough and come up with some truly brilliant setups.

@Mark Reis I mean by that "finally" that there's finally some good content on TH-cam in general as I was refreshing not as in PF does otherwise content that's not great. I can see how the comment could be misunderstood.
Here’s a very important variable you left out…. heat. I used the 30lb Gorilla Glue on an LED light strip in my garage (under a cabinet). The tape ran the entire 6 foot length of light strip. The light strip maybe weighed 5lbs total and was only an inch wide. It held great over the winter but in the summer when the garage reached a temperature of about 25 degrees celsius to 30 degrees celsius the tape let go. Pretty important factor given my application was well within the expected uses of this product.
It's hard to come by, but I found that Scotch outdoor permanent tape 5-15 lbs to be the best for most applications, including applications where it gets hot. I believe the logo has a picture of a hanging circular star looking thing. I've tried them all, and I use a lot of this tape, and the Scotch seems to be the most permanent. If you use it indoors like to hang a picture, it will tear off the drywall if you're not careful.
Todd, Thank you for testing! You have saved me money and time. I go to your channel not only for personal use but I am the purchaser for our business and always go to your channel first. Thank you!
I wish I could give this man and his channel a million dollars for ALL his painstaking and superior work in bringing us his detailed videos. I was looking for these products precisely, and finding this test sealed my decision. Thank you VERY much, Project Farm!
We used the 3M VHB tape to mount the gear tracks when we built a CNC plasma table. It has held up well for over 3 years and was a real pain when we had to remove a section of the track.
I use VHB tape to mount a solar panel on top of my pickup canopy. It's been on there for about 8 years now... baking all summer, freezing all winter, whistling down the freeway at 75... No sign of failure so far.
I'd really like to see 3M VHB tape with primer tested on glass and aluminum. The 3M primer really does make a massive difference, without the primer it might barely stick to a surface but after priming it's almost impossible to remove! I work in construction as a glazier and use it all the time so it'd be cool to see some testing done with it.

Thank you, this helped greatly in our decision to use the LLPT VHB tape to attach the ACM skin on our teardrop build, the stuff is crazy sticky, reduces the need for holes in the build. Great Video.
@@acepv68 I bought the LLPT and used the adhesive promoter, I don't think that's a long term implementation. Of course you can try it and report back on your outcome.
I've just re-watched this and I have some observations and a request: 1. The VHB tape was very consistent across the tests. On the metal tests, it failed in the way that it should according to my knowledge of the VHB technology. 2. The wood test failures were largely the fact that the adhesives had not bonded to the wood - they failed mostly from surface contact. The wood at the lumber yards is handled after being machined and the surfaces are not ideal for bonding. They often have traces of oils and other materials. Likewise, the end cuts from the circular saw have strands of fibers at various lengths that are not good for bonding. The Chinesium tape appears to have done better in this test largely because I believe it has more solvent than the other tapes based on appearance. I would suggest sanding the bonding areas with 120 grit sandpaper to clean and smooth them. After sanding, wipe with acetone or denatured alcohol to remove the sanding fines and allow to dry. Then bond and apply a 10lb/5kg weight or other clamping force and then test. If my assumptions are correct, doing this with the VHB tape will produce a much better result that can be indicative without rerunning the entire testing batch. VHB is used to bond the glass window assemblies' aluminum frames to the steel structure where it handles the thermal expansion differences between the two. Amazing stuff. I use it on many things - just not wood.
I know this comment is a little over a year old but I'm looking to install some ABS plastic louvers on my Dodge Challenger. Do you think the 3M Scotch 5952 VHB used with some adhesive promoter will give me a good bond on my back window? I just don't want the louvers flying off the window when I'm doing 65 plus MPH down the road. Thanks.
Great review overall. The information is good for my purposes. I have a small issue with the testing or maybe it's just another test category to consider because it all depends on how you are going to use the product. I noticed on the vertical pull tests, especially on the metal, that the two pieces always separated away from the bottom. With that in mind, "how does it apply to reality?" ... I say to myself. An object stuck to a wall will most always separate from the top first because of gravity pulling down, and you would need to rely on the tape to support both the total weight of the object as it pulls outward but that will be greatly diminished by how much surface area of tape it needs to slide downwards on. This brings me to the important test, that is related and I would have wanted to see ... The test where the two surfaces slide apart parallel from each other, rather than tear away from each other. Using your metal vertical pull test as sn example, I would like to see a perfect pull vertically without separation first from the bottom. This means that the cable needs to be perfectly centered and perhaps add a slightly loose wedge both sides (like a track) to keep the pieces in parallel to the track. My prediction would be that the tapes strength will be very much higher for all across the board. Thanks again. Geat review.
I am not going to lie. Your channel may be one of the most useful channels I check out. There are more interesting topics, but your array of comparisons is a helpful thing to almost any human that wants to do the job right, the first time.
I think some of the tensile strength tests were affected by the blocks tilting as they were pulled apart. Because each block only had a single pin, they could swivel a bit, turning some of the tensile force into shearing. Maybe using two pins per block would keep the tape line more level for future tensile tests. Anyway, this is a great video as always! Your videos have informed a number of my recent purchasing decisions. Since discovering your channel, I always check if you've tested whatever I'm looking to buy. One thing I'd love to see you test or review would be torque wrenches! I have one that is rated from 20-100 ft.-lbs, but I need one that can do 10-15 ft.-lbs for car repair stuff. I hear horror stories about torque wrenches being wildly out of calibration leading to snapped bolts and damaged engine blocks.
On your Teespring shirts, can you make one up with that beat up lawn mower that you always use for your comparison tests with some funny statement on it, I would surely buy one.
@@Werdna12345 The adhesive is more malleable, so when you stick it to something it's able to conform and get in all the crevices giving a stronger bond
LLPT! Probably the stuff that's used on those made in China auto emblems (with doublestick tape). I'm going to buy a roll of LLPT - price is just too good to pass up. Thanks for another great video.
VHB is used a lot in manufacturing environments because it handle temp swings, dirt, and grime. It's also used a lot in cars (seriously it's used to hold some panels on) and signage. There's also a bunch of different types of VHB types of you look at their catalog.
the amount of work one has to go through to complete a legitimate and accurate test is crazy, thanks to project farm in helping us best choose the right products
I drive a short distance daily, so I often reach an oil change date long before I reach the mileage. Does engine oil actually degrade over time with regular but minimal use? Thank you for the great videos!
Scotty kilmer recommends yearly oil changes for low use vehicles but personally i also feel you can reduce water moisture accumulated in such oil by leaving a hot engine idling periodically with its oil cap opened to allow water to evaporate
Actually no it doesn't! The "time" is to account for water condensation inside crank case. If you run regularly up to operating temp (without excessive idling) you're good for much much longer.
I'd love to see a revisit to this, taking higher heat into account, such as a car interior. Looking for some replacement tape for my quad lock wireless charging mount after the included tape (I thought it was supposed to be 3M VHB) gave loose after just a few months, as soon as the heat started picking up.
Very nice as usual. I commented once that the boards have a crown and you actually responded and noticed you now have them all the same. You are a channel that deserves its income and I wish you all the best for what it's worth haha . Thank you
Bought the LLPT tape after watching this test. Great adhesion at first but the stickiness completely died within two weeks. I used the tape to adhere a flat wooden plaque to a flat wooden desk. In two weeks the plaque just fell off and the residual tape film had no stickiness to it at all. It was as if the glue in the film was absorbed into the wood. Failed miserably. Amazon refunded without question.
How these tapes hold up to time, temperature cycles, etc. is what I was curious about also. Some double sided tapes are designed to adhere body panels for years through temperature and weather. Having half the initial bond strength but that strength remaining consistent for years makes it much more useful for sure.
With the advent of dash cams and devices needing to be mounted on the windshield, this is a great video showing what works and what doesn’t. Thank you.
DAMMIT! You should've done glass! My spot mirrors keep falling off. You should've put these in an oven at very low heat (125F) to test adhesion under heat.
@@Mr330d It's not that, it's weakening in the heat of the sun. I use starting fluid followed by alcohol, followed by window cleaner. It works best except for one *exception. Starting fluid disolves everything from cigarette tar to 5th wheel grease. I actually have used starting fluid expediently dry clean my uniform at work one time. I use the alcohol to remove traces left after evaporation and to remove the traces of upper cylinder lubricant. The window cleaner removes any streaks (probably trace amounts of lubricant) left behind from the alcohol. *ONE EXCEPTION: I live in between 2 coke (pyrolyzed coal) plants and beside a steel mill (AK Steel). We have "hard humidity" here. It's basically hard water vapor suspended in the air. Over time it leaves a film on EVERYTHING including glass. Starting fluid WILL NOT put a dent on this film! You might as well be using plain water. No, what you need to remove a film caused by hard humidity is pure white vinegar. Heinz or Great Value, it doesn't matter, just buy it by the gallon to save money. Then hit it with the Triple Threat cleaning method I mentioned above.
Ooh. Before even watching, I wonder if we'll find out which ones are suitable for high Temps as well as temperature swings! Edit: looks like we didn't see anything about temperature, maybe we'll get a follow up testing how these do in an application such as hanging a decoration on a front door. The glass storm door can trap heat and then you have a swing in temperature swing once the sun sets, as well as testing how winter temperatures affect these. Great video as always though!
I came across a few cans of 30(?) year old Mobile 10w-40 with an API SF rating. I would be willing to send one to you for comparison with new conventional 10w-40 and maybe synthetic to see how much oil is different now. Might make an interesting vid.
VHB was tested and did well, but I do not think it was installed and aged as specified. The variability in the tests points out the installation irregularities.
You should make a website showing the winners of every test you have done, that way if I'm looking to buy something that you might have tested I can check and see which is best
The long term testing is underway for both self-discharge and charge cycling. 2 of the outdoor lights are no longer lighting up the entire night indicating that 2 of the batteries are beginning to fail. I'll put to together a video on them in a few more months. Thanks again!
WOW!!! I certainly didn't expect those results. I swear by X-Fasten but I'm gonna try some of that LLPT.........very impressive!!! One of my favorite channels.......really!!!!
You didn't test "load over time" which is the most important for fixing stuff to a wall with tape. In my experience it is just a matter of time and stuff falls down...
@@5jjt Stick a piece of wood, plastic and/or metal to a wall for the recommended adhesion time, then put various weights on them and see how long it takes for them to fall. or you could do it by hanging weight from them as well.
Question. On the first test wouldn’t the placement of the single bolt skew the results since if the bolt isn’t perfectly centered then the force is less evenly distributed to varying degrees between tests? Maybe I’m wrong. 🤷🏻♂️
Very impressive concept for the video about testing products. Clear, straight to the point, unbiased and very informative. Now it just would be nice to live in country where you could buy all the winning products...
I’ve seen spray adhesive often used to fasten fabric to wood, for example. Maybe get a hand or bath towel fabric, and spray a strip where half is fastened on wood, and the other half is used to try to pull the towel loose?
I feel like I’m listening to a football game with the set up of arcade style music. These are in-depth reviews of major brands. Thank you for your work and your genius engineering.
I'd love to see how heat affects the results. I've tried to use double sided tape to hold things to a car windshield only to have it let go when it got hot.
I agree with VHB, but you have to make sure that you get the right model number for that application. Some handle heat and some do not. Best route to go is to drop 3M a tech email and ask them. Might take a few days to get a response but it’s better than wasting money on trial and error.

I’m a truck driver and spend the extra money on silicone wiper blades after seeing Scotty’s video. It’s made a world of difference. I drive 13,000 miles a month plus so use them a TON. Superior. I believe it’s Michelin that I have on.
Don't know Scotty, but I am here to vouch for quality silicon wipers. I bought SilBlade 14 years ago, Texas summers and occasional freezes have barely phased them.
PIAA silicon. Japanese made. Good quality metal frame. Silicon replaceable blade. Very good quality.
Dude!!!! Thanks for doing my recommendation! This is awesome. Hands down one of the best TH-camrs out there!

What water filter (Brita, PUR, Zerowater, auqa bliss...) does the best job filtering?
Great test idea!
Life straw.
Great idea considering how much pollutants and chemicals enter our bodies from water alone

Great test idea!
That would be a good test. But ya'll better be coughing up some donations. lol! They're not cheap to have enough for a legit comparison.
Agree! We need to know. This a common need among 10s of thousands.

Great test idea!
AvE did a bunch of different grade bolts.
Thanks and you are welcome!

Thanks for the feedback.

@@acepv68 I bought the LLPT and used the adhesive promoter, I don't think that's a long term implementation. Of course you can try it and report back on your outcome.
I've just re-watched this and I have some observations and a request:
I use it on many things - just not wood.
yup VHB is amazing for automotive trim and panels
I'm happy he did wood because I'm mounting sound panels to a wood wall so his experiment is exactly what I need.
Thank you for taking the time to make such an informative video. Keep up the great work!
Thanks, will do!
I am not going to lie. Your channel may be one of the most useful channels I check out.
There are more interesting topics, but your array of comparisons is a helpful thing to almost any human that wants to do the job right, the first time.
Wow, thank you!
Extreme Bonding....something I wish my Dad did with me. 😂😳😳
Thank you
If he's that kind of dad then count yourself lucky.
You're not the only one my friend
Maybe too extreme
If your dad bonded with you to this level of extremity, I think he'd be looking at a prison sentence.
Thanks for the video idea.
Not just that after a few days it's stronger .

Maybe "Very impressive!". Don't know why, but when he says it, I'm like "Yeah, that was impressive!"
Fun fact: most adhesives can be strengthend by heating it up first, then applying it.

I drive a short distance daily, so I often reach an oil change date long before I reach the mileage. Does engine oil actually degrade over time with regular but minimal use? Thank you for the great videos!
Great video idea!! Thank you
Yes
Yep, water gets in, doesn't all vent.

I WAS going to buy this, but not now. I didn't think about the time factor. Thanks for the heads-up.
How these tapes hold up to time, temperature cycles, etc. is what I was curious about also. Some double sided tapes are designed to adhere body panels for years through temperature and weather. Having half the initial bond strength but that strength remaining consistent for years makes it much more useful for sure.
Test them at higher temperatures i have found that the foam based tape holds better at hi temps.
Great test idea!

As I said on another comment I've always used 3m brand of double sided tape and have never had a problem with use on glass.
@@charlesrich3975 Where did you get it at?
