Kalan from PDM has raised my standards for all fragrances. Being a Creed Aventus fan and Reflection man by Amouage, Kalan has placed itself on top of my wardrobe. This red Ferrari has left behind all other fragrances in the league. Absolutely love it
@@keneferdinand9761For me, kalan is pretty dang powerful, the most sprays i would ever do with this one is 3-4 sprays. it will last 8+ hours and project a decent distance away for a good amount of its lifespan on your skin. people will definitely smell you and it’s a polarizing scent so i’d rather be reserved with this one.
I don't know who told you it's illegal to discount without the brand's authority but that is utter bollox. I'm a channel manager for a manufacturer with several distributors and a product has a list price but the distributor can choose to discount if they wish to compete and secure business. Telling them what to charge can be construed as price fixing, which IS illegal. If discounting was illegal why wouldn't pdm simply stop supplying them?! You're not helping the stigma of reviewers being shills by peddling lies.
@MAGACOP I'd say yes absolutely mate. For me personally, I find it illogical sometimes to spend $200 on something I am not so sure about and hesitate to spend another 100 more on the real deal. Of course reputable discounters discount part of their allocated margin by the manufacture and that applies on all the goods not only perfumes, but again perfumes are different and they require proper storage etc... which may not necessarily be applicable at discounters facilities.
Companies/distributors tend to have some agreements in place with the manufacturer. MAP pricing or sale price is often included with that agreement. These discount companies aren't beholden to those agreements.
MAGACOP I got Percival off eBay for $135 and it smells exactly the same as I smelled on an official Percival sample. eBay gets a bad rep but I've gotten almost every bottle of my 40+ collection off eBay with zero issues. All 100% authentic.
You are absolutely right when it comes to perfumes with natural Oud as an example because natural oud oil get better and better as it ages. Not all ingredients improve while aging and sometimes that reformulation improve certain perfumes such as Sedley which has a better overall beastly performance after reformulation.
@@aadityam9999 Let's be honest, it's rare for a fragrance to be reformulated for the better. When a scent ages, the top notes or the more volatile ones tend to degrade. Whereas the base notes and things like oud/sandalwood only get better. It's why something like the OG Old Spice which is basically all top notes will "smell off" when it gets old.

Layton is definitely amazing. For me it’s not my all time favorite fragrance but it’s so well rounded. It lasts very long, I actually got compliments 11, 12, and 13 hours after applying on my skin. My girlfriend can’t stop smelling it on me when I wear it and other friends give me compliments when I wear it all the time. Def recommend

A year ago I had 1 scent for all occasions and perceived a 70 usd bottle to be super expensive. Fastforward 6 months and after watching a few of these videos I had a urge to get a bottle of Layton. Was lucky and got my hands on one from a seller in a social media group and felt that the roughly 100 usd i spent on it was such a waste to just smell good. However..... fast forward another 6 months and I have 175 bottles and 14 of them being from marly. Who to blame???
I smelled some top parfums but Herold was the only one that blew my mind in a way I still do not understand. I really was like "wow" ... it was like diving into another world. It took me on a journey in my mind and just left me speechless. I think it is to be worn in winter.
I picked up the collection set with 10ml samples of Pegasus, Herod, Layton, Galloway, Percival, and Carlisle. Every scent is leagues above most fragrances you might come across, but Carlisle... Just WOW! When Demi says it is a masterpiece fragrance, I honestly can't think of a better way to describe it. It is phenomenal. I still haven't decided which I want to add to my collection first ($$$), but I think it will be Herod. Thanks Demi for the guide!
Between Demi & another channel that I love, I went out & bought a bottle of Herod. Absolutely zero regrets, it's just as amazing as Demi said & then some. I'm so glad my eyes (and nose) were opened to PDM.
Love Habdan from the house....the perfumer’s craft and technical structure definitely shows in this fragrance. The leather is just beautiful at the top and kind of leads its way into a gourmand territory. Definitely underrated.

There are some people, those are buying certain popular Parfums de Marly fragrances, at a price point which is "too good to be true", most probably shopping from discounters, and giving feedback on various blogs and websites with negative or mixed reactions, mostly based on perhaps those discounted Parfums de Marly fragrances. Carlisle, Pegasis, Layton and Oajan are currently my Fav PdMs. Herod's performance just isnt the same as it was 2-3 years ago. My new bottle from the Spring is only 3-4 hours max, which is trash, imo. The scent is still amazing, but the projection and longevity is now one of the worst by PdM. My 2017 bottle was 7-8 hours easy. And no, it's not "olfactory fatigue", cuz no one else can smell it after 3-4 hours either. Really disappointing what they did to Herod!

Great video. Couple of years ago I put the hours in smelling away in Selfridges as you do. After my research was done I went with Herod, Percival and Layton. So those are my top three. I agree about Percival. I wasn't sure at first, then I wore it on holiday to Abu Dhabi and it won my respect big time. As a fresh fragrance, for me it is the best. It smells great, projects and lasts in Abu Dhabi heat on the beach, and it can be worn anytime. Speaking of Herod, having Side Effect and Rehab by Initio makes a royal set. I do wish that Initio would make a proper summer scent so I could have 3 of each.
Hi to everybody, I got samples from almost every men fragrance from PDM : Layton : niche-ish Boss bottled with Marcera Red tobacco / Herrod: Little better than spice bomb / Percival : smells too cheap and synthetic / Darley: same as Le Male . All in all, at this price tag i would expect more "new" ideas. I would suggest to go for Amouage : Reflection Man /Lyric Man / Interlude or Jubilation XXV. They are by far the epitome of NICHE fragrances.
Personally Kalan smells really nice to me, it smells like a very sexy peanut butter. It's a 8/10 for me. Layton and Layton Exclusif are my favourites though

I am most happy with Layton and it gets the most compliments. Herod is great too. Both project really well and last 10-12 hours. If had to score them on a scale Layton 10/10 and Herod 8.5/10.
I've owned all of these scents in this video apart from Layton and the only two that I still have are Percival and Herod. The rest I have sold on as I couldn't live with them. Carlisle was good but was too similar to MFK Grand Soir which I already had. I had Layton Exclusif but it was too rich and I never really got any compliments from it - since then I sampled Layton and found it way more likeable and better complimented. Thanks Demi - I know now what the final missing piece is in my PDM collection and will be poised for the 26th June!
Happy you gave a shout out for Habdan! I bought Habdan and Oajan at around the same time when Oajan was getting all the hype. To this day, when I have a choice, I reach for Habdan - so sexy! Sedley is one I thought you'd mention. I like it in the extremely hot weather. Still, can't argue with Darley and Percival, though. One that I love on me is Delina Exclusif. I can pull off some perfumes that are targeted towards women, and this is one of them. I can't pull off Delina in the same way - the sour note and the creaminess of Exclusif goes well on my skin. I get as many compliments from this as I do with Carlisle (although now that I think of it, many of the compliments are from men).
For those who are not into any type of 'challenging' scents, at the very end Demi gives a great tip on which ones to buy 1. Layton - by far the best of the line if you are not a massive niche lover yet 2. Percival - I dont get CAHEE vibe. To me its more like if an ambroxian frag was done on niche quality - and we all know how much the staple ambroxian well know frag does (Sauvage). Well this is that but done so so much better. 3. Percival - winter scent but girls and guys just love it. As in non-fraghead everyday people you will walk past. But its a winter fall only scent to me.
Pure Havane by thierry Mugler cherry tobacco is 100 times better than Herod sux all i got was a smoke scent no vanilla cinnamon, Oajan by Parfums de marly than Herod.
My favourite scents from PdM are 3. Herod 2. Layton aaand..... yes, yes, yes, 1. KALAN. The only thing that I hate these fragrances is the variable performance. Layton's performance from 2018 to these days is disappoint, Herod's performance is disappoint from 2017. BUT, I love the way these smell.
Just got Herod 2018. Disappointing! I can smell it just 1 to 2 hours on my skin. Then it completely disappear. That a waste of money. Layton 2017, however... it's a beast.

I understand that fragrances are subjective and I respect that. I just tested five sprays of Percival on my arm at Nordstrom ($310 - 4.2oz) and this is quite possibly the most underwhelming fragrance I have tested in a really long time. To me, it doesn’t even compete with a great $50 fresh designer that you can find at discounters (Ferragamo EDT, Bvlgari Aqva Marine, Missoni Wave, etc) Generic, fresh, clean, and average are the only words that come to mind when describing Percival. Even if it were $90 retail, I still wouldn’t choose it over Allure Homme Sport EDT or Eau Extreme. I really hope this isn’t one of the best from PDM bc I personally wouldn’t spend $40 on a full bottle of this stuff.
I recently purchased Layton Exclusif and love it. I love Layton and Herod too. The first time I smelt Percival I was quite disappointed, but then the dry down, and longevity… Wow!!

Percival is a take on Fierce/Legend DNA just higher quality/more refined than the previous, but it’s definitely not unique at all. Layton projects easily 6-8 hours & then scent trails all day. It might be a bad batch or not to your taste (which is fine), but women do love Layton & there’s nothing that smells quite like it. With your Pegasus & Layton Preferences, you seem to like amber type heavy fragrances which are very different than Layton, I’d say if you can’t tell by note breakdown what you like then smell the fragrance before you blind buy

I got my first full size bottle today. I went with Carlisle and I am absolutely in love with it! Luckily the weather is still a little cool here. It's about to get hot though, so I will have less occasion to wear it.
I actually own both Layton and Exclisif...well worth having both. I love both. I'm surprised that you didn't talk about Sedley, since you were one of the people who first hyped it up
Very well-said about Kalan. It is the most complicated scent I have ever experienced. Like you said, there are guys out there who admire it, but even as a Marly fan, I can't relate to it. It leaves me confused and to be honest, I can't tolerate it on my skin for a long time.

Layton was my first big bottle purchase from PDM and I LOVE the scent. However, my number one PDM favorite is Herod after first purchasing a sample of it. I couldn't stop smelling the spray nozzle/lid. It's bloody beautiful and makes me feel sexy and happy when wearing it. The cherry-like scent and tobacco in Herod reminded me of Cherry Shisha tobacco when I first smelt it. Waiting for my full botttle to arrive in a week or two!

Demi you are certainly right about Habdan, is the most underrated PDM fragrance by far, probably because of Oajan people think its a redundant purchase. Habdan is my second favorite next to Herod.
I always regretted buying Kalan until recently. I bought it by mistake(yes, I thought I was buying another one I smelled) a year ago and until now have I come to appreciate it. I didn’t like how peppery it smelled. But recently I tried it again and suddenly I love it. It smells like nothing I’ve ever smelled before. Very unique, not to mention smells expensive too. I’m not good as describing fragrances as you can tell, but just wanted to put my two cents on Kalan, which I think is underrated
Herod is a great one. To me it smells like an old school playboy at a Vegas casino back in the 60s or 70s with the tobacco and booze notes. Someone probably in the mob that NOBODY messes with. Someone who leaves with two beautiful women at night and wakes up with two different beautiful women in the morning.
I own Layton, Carlise, and Percival and enjoy every three of them. Layton is my date night/sexy vibe. Carlise is my well dressed going on night on town. Percival is my dumb reach I want to smell good. Percival is very versatile. You can wear it on night outs/date night/ gym/work etc. So I use Percival a lot more. Nice smelling blue fragrance.

Not legal to offer discounts without the brand's permission? In the UK at least, it's actually not legal for a brand to dictate what retailers should charge. There was a very high profile case in the 90's involving all the major electrical manufacturers (Sony, Panasonic, Hitachi etc) trying to stop supermarkets from discounting TV's etc. They lost, and it has been part of UK law ever since. Price cartels are now illegal.
I got a Darley and Kalan sample when I got another cologne for my partner...I love Darley, very clean, calming, deep at the same time and super easy to wear. Kalan to me, is not it at all, I don't like it in the slightest...but I can really tell top quality is there as a brand.
I bought Percival in July and I am loving it. I also tried Herod and liked it, but I wasn't sure how I'd like wearing it in the long run-it's pretty special. Also, Sedley was to my liking and Layton of course, but Kalan and Godolphin I didn't like. I thought Carlisle was so-so, not as good as several reviews said, I thought.

@@Showtimekeem, oh boy, that’s tough. If money isn’t an issue, Layton. If it is, Chanel. But to be honest, we’re talking almost $300 for Layton (unless you get it at a discounted retailer) and about $80-$150 depending on the bottle. Chanel is rarely discounted, if ever.

I felt the same way about Percival. At first i was like i should have bought something else, but it just grew on me. Works great in the heat.

I smelled some top parfums but Herold was the only one that blew my mind in a way I still do not understand. I really was like "wow" ... it was like diving into another world. It took me on a journey in my mind and just left me speechless. I think it is to be worn in winter.
I picked up the collection set with 10ml samples of Pegasus, Herod, Layton, Galloway, Percival, and Carlisle. Every scent is leagues above most fragrances you might come across, but Carlisle... Just WOW! When Demi says it is a masterpiece fragrance, I honestly can't think of a better way to describe it. It is phenomenal. I still haven't decided which I want to add to my collection first ($$$), but I think it will be Herod. Thanks Demi for the guide!
Between Demi & another channel that I love, I went out & bought a bottle of Herod. Absolutely zero regrets, it's just as amazing as Demi said & then some. I'm so glad my eyes (and nose) were opened to PDM.

Love Habdan from the house....the perfumer’s craft and technical structure definitely shows in this fragrance. The leather is just beautiful at the top and kind of leads its way into a gourmand territory. Definitely underrated.

Carlisle, Pegasis, Layton and Oajan are currently my Fav PdMs. Herod's performance just isnt the same as it was 2-3 years ago. My new bottle from the Spring is only 3-4 hours max, which is trash, imo. The scent is still amazing, but the projection and longevity is now one of the worst by PdM. My 2017 bottle was 7-8 hours easy. And no, it's not "olfactory fatigue", cuz no one else can smell it after 3-4 hours either. Really disappointing what they did to Herod!

Great video. Couple of years ago I put the hours in smelling away in Selfridges as you do. After my research was done I went with Herod, Percival and Layton. So those are my top three. I agree about Percival. I wasn't sure at first, then I wore it on holiday to Abu Dhabi and it won my respect big time. As a fresh fragrance, for me it is the best. It smells great, projects and lasts in Abu Dhabi heat on the beach, and it can be worn anytime. Speaking of Herod, having Side Effect and Rehab by Initio makes a royal set. I do wish that Initio would make a proper summer scent so I could have 3 of each.

Hi to everybody, I got samples from almost every men fragrance from PDM : Layton : niche-ish Boss bottled with Marcera Red tobacco / Herrod: Little better than spice bomb / Percival : smells too cheap and synthetic / Darley: same as Le Male . All in all, at this price tag i would expect more "new" ideas. I would suggest to go for Amouage : Reflection Man /Lyric Man / Interlude or Jubilation XXV. They are by far the epitome of NICHE fragrances.

Personally Kalan smells really nice to me, it smells like a very sexy peanut butter. It's a 8/10 for me. Layton and Layton Exclusif are my favourites though

I am most happy with Layton and it gets the most compliments. Herod is great too. Both project really well and last 10-12 hours. If had to score them on a scale Layton 10/10 and Herod 8.5/10.

I've owned all of these scents in this video apart from Layton and the only two that I still have are Percival and Herod. The rest I have sold on as I couldn't live with them. Carlisle was good but was too similar to MFK Grand Soir which I already had. I had Layton Exclusif but it was too rich and I never really got any compliments from it - since then I sampled Layton and found it way more likeable and better complimented. Thanks Demi - I know now what the final missing piece is in my PDM collection and will be poised for the 26th June!
Happy you gave a shout out for Habdan! I bought Habdan and Oajan at around the same time when Oajan was getting all the hype. To this day, when I have a choice, I reach for Habdan - so sexy!
Sedley is one I thought you'd mention. I like it in the extremely hot weather. Still, can't argue with Darley and Percival, though.
One that I love on me is Delina Exclusif. I can pull off some perfumes that are targeted towards women, and this is one of them. I can't pull off Delina in the same way - the sour note and the creaminess of Exclusif goes well on my skin. I get as many compliments from this as I do with Carlisle (although now that I think of it, many of the compliments are from men).

For those who are not into any type of 'challenging' scents, at the very end Demi gives a great tip on which ones to buy
1. Layton - by far the best of the line if you are not a massive niche lover yet
2. Percival - I dont get CAHEE vibe. To me its more like if an ambroxian frag was done on niche quality - and we all know how much the staple ambroxian well know frag does (Sauvage). Well this is that but done so so much better.
3. Percival - winter scent but girls and guys just love it. As in non-fraghead everyday people you will walk past. But its a winter fall only scent to me.

The only thing that I hate these fragrances is the variable performance. Layton's performance from 2018 to these days is disappoint, Herod's performance is disappoint from 2017.

Just got Herod 2018. Disappointing! I can smell it just 1 to 2 hours on my skin. Then it completely disappear. That a waste of money. Layton 2017, however... it's a beast.

I understand that fragrances are subjective and I respect that. I just tested five sprays of Percival on my arm at Nordstrom ($310 - 4.2oz) and this is quite possibly the most underwhelming fragrance I have tested in a really long time. To me, it doesn’t even compete with a great $50 fresh designer that you can find at discounters (Ferragamo EDT, Bvlgari Aqva Marine, Missoni Wave, etc)
Generic, fresh, clean, and average are the only words that come to mind when describing Percival. Even if it were $90 retail, I still wouldn’t choose it over Allure Homme Sport EDT or Eau Extreme.
I really hope this isn’t one of the best from PDM bc I personally wouldn’t spend $40 on a full bottle of this stuff.
It grows on you after a while it definitely resembles Fierce though.

The first time I smelt Percival I was quite disappointed, but then the dry down, and longevity… Wow!!
The reverse is true for me on Percival. Pegasus, don’t like the opening, same with Carlisle, but the dry down on both is amazing

Percival is a take on Fierce/Legend DNA just higher quality/more refined than the previous, but it’s definitely not unique at all. Layton projects easily 6-8 hours & then scent trails all day. It might be a bad batch or not to your taste (which is fine), but women do love Layton & there’s nothing that smells quite like it. With your Pegasus & Layton Preferences, you seem to like amber type heavy fragrances which are very different than Layton, I’d say if you can’t tell by note breakdown what you like then smell the fragrance before you blind buy
An old batch is actually better because it's usually macerated longer and is more powerful/developed.

Very well-said about Kalan. It is the most complicated scent I have ever experienced. Like you said, there are guys out there who admire it, but even as a Marly fan, I can't relate to it. It leaves me confused and to be honest, I can't tolerate it on my skin for a long time.

Layton was my first big bottle purchase from PDM and I LOVE the scent. However, my number one PDM favorite is Herod after first purchasing a sample of it. I couldn't stop smelling the spray nozzle/lid. It's bloody beautiful and makes me feel sexy and happy when wearing it. The cherry-like scent and tobacco in Herod reminded me of Cherry Shisha tobacco when I first smelt it. Waiting for my full botttle to arrive in a week or two!
I tested most of them, for me Layton and Pegasus are no less than amazing. Somehow Herod is too harsh cinnamon ...not for me.
And it is interesting that the best 3 Layton, Pegasus and Perceval, are the only 3 made by the same Iranian profumer , he is gifted

Demi you are certainly right about Habdan, is the most underrated PDM fragrance by far, probably because of Oajan people think its a redundant purchase. Habdan is my second favorite next to Herod.

I always regretted buying Kalan until recently. I bought it by mistake(yes, I thought I was buying another one I smelled) a year ago and until now have I come to appreciate it. I didn’t like how peppery it smelled. But recently I tried it again and suddenly I love it. It smells like nothing I’ve ever smelled before. Very unique, not to mention smells expensive too. I’m not good as describing fragrances as you can tell, but just wanted to put my two cents on Kalan, which I think is underrated

Herod is a great one. To me it smells like an old school playboy at a Vegas casino back in the 60s or 70s with the tobacco and booze notes. Someone probably in the mob that NOBODY messes with. Someone who leaves with two beautiful women at night and wakes up with two different beautiful women in the morning.
I own Layton, Carlise, and Percival and enjoy every three of them. Layton is my date night/sexy vibe. Carlise is my well dressed going on night on town. Percival is my dumb reach I want to smell good. Percival is very versatile. You can wear it on night outs/date night/ gym/work etc. So I use Percival a lot more. Nice smelling blue fragrance.

Not legal to offer discounts without the brand's permission? In the UK at least, it's actually not legal for a brand to dictate what retailers should charge. There was a very high profile case in the 90's involving all the major electrical manufacturers (Sony, Panasonic, Hitachi etc) trying to stop supermarkets from discounting TV's etc. They lost, and it has been part of UK law ever since. Price cartels are now illegal.
I got a Darley and Kalan sample when I got another cologne for my partner...I love Darley, very clean, calming, deep at the same time and super easy to wear. Kalan to me, is not it at all, I don't like it in the slightest...but I can really tell top quality is there as a brand.
I bought Percival in July and I am loving it. I also tried Herod and liked it, but I wasn't sure how I'd like wearing it in the long run-it's pretty special. Also, Sedley was to my liking and Layton of course, but Kalan and Godolphin I didn't like. I thought Carlisle was so-so, not as good as several reviews said, I thought.

@@Showtimekeem, oh boy, that’s tough. If money isn’t an issue, Layton. If it is, Chanel. But to be honest, we’re talking almost $300 for Layton (unless you get it at a discounted retailer) and about $80-$150 depending on the bottle. Chanel is rarely discounted, if ever.
