To be honest, as someone who remembers seeing the PS1 in nightclubs when I were a lad, it really gives me a buzz to see someone writing a game for a console that's older than them!
That must be the first time I think I've ever heard of a games console being present in a nightclub. And to honest with my memories of the original PlayStation and how the public received it... I can totally see that being the case. The PlayStation was 'cool' and everyone was interested. True pop culture icon and a core feature of the 1990s.
@@halfbakedproductions7887 "That must be the first time I think I've ever heard of a games console being present in a nightclub." It was how Sony decided to market the PlayStation in Europe. Bandwith: So I have to supply manually a list with the order of polygons to draw to the screen manually to the ps1. Me after I remembered that all I had to do to solve this exact issue on my first OpenGL project was enabling depth testing: Oh dear.... oh.... dear....
At 9:39 I swear I was gonna watch this man like chuck everything off the desk, but a nice and commendable time lapse of him cleaning up happened instead. Awesome video
What you called a polygon there is actually called a quad which is a square made up of two polygons. Polygons are triangles made up of three vertices. Quads are used mainly in 3D editors to make the 3d meshes less complicated and easier to work on. edit: Also I would advise for your breaks when gaming, play games that are similar to the product you are trying to achieve. This would be good for inspiration and ideas on how to develop your engine. Your last video and this one earned you my sub, I enjoy watching your learning process. Also don't stress yourself too much on things (unless you are working for someone and you have deadlines, sure, but you're doing this independently so...) Just take your time, keep learning what needs to be learned, research and hone your skills in coding and whatever else and simply have fun with the process! Cheers! :D
Pro-tip: instead of calculating the square root of the distance to compare it to a value (since it's too expensive), you can just multiply the value you want to compare by itself (power of 2, much cheaper) and then compare them. The result is the same and a lot of CPU cycles are saved.
The algorithm recommended me your first PS1 programming video and was hooked by your channel ever since. Keep up the good work and you do what makes you passionate about your work.

I miss this type of comedic content in TH-cam, though. You did very well on this one, please do more and I am sure many retro gamers would love to see that too. Cheers.
How sad to see. I have been there at the big store on one day in 2008. I was working together with Maybach back in the days and we made test drives with US spec cars. As we were located in New Jersey one of the trips led us to Newburgh. Me, being a big fan of the TV series back in these days HAD TO stop there, having a look around the location and buying some merch. Bought some Hoodies and stuff. Made a lot of photos of the bikes on display in the shop. One photo is still on Wikipedia today (Jet Bike). Has been a good time. Did like the whole staff very much. Some of them came walking out of the manufacturing part and had a look on our car, a 62S, which was a rather rare sight. Sad, that their business went down that way.
Whoever commented on the last video saying that you could have just used a VM (PS1 emulator) definitely hasn't had the chance to make program homebrew games. I had to make pong and tic tac toe for the GBA using C code and the older ARM baremetal gcc compiler for a class at my university and I remember wishing I had an actual GBA to play it on. It feels way more satisfying playing on the native hardware that your code was made to run on in the first place!
I don't know how much you plan to pursue this whole "making a game for the ps1" thing, but I think it would be really neat to see how you learn to progressively make more complex games. Whether it be by making more complex graphics or more intricate gameplay mechanics, either way, I'd be really interested in seeing that sort of thing.
I loved both of your videos. Please, keep doing more but only if you want/feel like doing so. Don't feel pressured, and for the love of god, don't pay attention to trolls here. Just have fun. You looked like a cool and nice guy!

I remember there used to be some awesome 3rd Person style shooters back in the day such as Delta Force series on PS1. You could also go FPS which would just mean realistically making yourself become the box with the camera angle. It's nice to see as some people have commented below, a younger person taking an interest in such consoles, and I was even surprised you had the interest with the C64 also, which is the first console I started gaming on / programming with - Yes, basic was a pain in the ass.
