As soon as you mentioned German homeless guy, I went "NoCa$h", and sure enough it was him. That guy was so big in the reverse engineering space. This is really cool, I remember watching your original videos and being inspired to make my own game and flopping, can't wait to see what you and Nicolas end up making.
Maybe you can advertise this as the open source engine everyone's been looking for. I know from the github, the rewritten version is most likely gonna be open source MIT license, but seeing it advertised to interested developers is definitely a game-changer. I know a lot of people are looking for that PS1 aesthetic games and what better way than to actually run it on an actual PS1.
I have had this idea for a port of a certain 2D game (Eufloria HD) on the PS1 for a while. Sadly I'm too stupid to code in C, much less create my own engine or framework for the PS1, so I hope this upcoming engine might offer the first coding steps to me. I've already managed to theoretically fit 5 CDs worth of the game's music on one disc with minimal quality loss thanks to the ADPCM tools, and I hope the entire game code will fit into ram so that if I make an internal CD player and an ADPCM player capable of reading any files on a disc, one could listen to one's own CDs without swapping back to the original disc. (because of the way the pc game works and the level files being tiny, I'm hoping I can make the game not have any loading screens other than for memory card reading/writing)
Bro that's absolutely fantastic! I'm very interested in that project, maybe I'll download it. I don't even own a PS1, but I have the PS2 that I can try my games. Very cool, congratulations!
Took you time, but I'm here for the like. I started looking for ps1 development because I was really curious about the system architecture, so alien to current hardware and found your first video, I'm glad you continued working with it and I hope you get a lot of views on this video
Stumbled across your videos on the PS1 previously, and despite the break you ended up back in my recommended. Have a sub, this is an awesome project, and congratulations on getting through school!
It's so great to have you back working on the PlayStation but is nobody going to mention that skit with the teacher at the beginning? It was quite funny, I liked it!

Love ur videos ur a very clever guy but can we get longer videos for the future? 15 - 20 mins would hit that sweet spot and really tickle my pickle. The 10 minute ones just tease me and leave me wanting more
Oblivious gen z guy has come so far! From a random amateur yt video about ps1 to make an engine and running stuff on it... he even developed personality on camera. Absolute madlad and nice to see this video. This could lead to somewhere interesting
Cool stuff. I still wish someone on the internet would come up with ways to copy the "wobble" though, so we can play discs without modding/hacking. THAT would be game changing for the PS1 retro game dev.

I really want this kind of game engine for real! I would love to be able to use 3D assets and put it in a frame as easy as unity does. would be insane!
This is great, will definitely try the engine once it's done. The PS1 is my favorite console and I'd love to make a game for it, even though I only have some experience in Unity and UE.
As a Computer Science teacher, I can confirm that's exactly how our conversations with students goes. Especially the "oh god he's back" bit 😆
