At CTWC 2024 over 120 Classic Tetris pros gathered at the SoCal Retro gaming expo to compete. Top 48 made gold, the next 32 made silver, and the following 32 made bronze. Top 16 seeds in gold earned a bye out of round 0, while the bottom 32 seeds compete in round 0 to advance to round 1. This year however there was much more at stake than ever seen before...

Felt like I was watching a CS2 tournament that kept switching to player cams when the round isn't over. 😂
1st year of new camera setups and newer production team it was kinda scuffed, they'll make improvements for next year and the production quality will keep rising

One thing I love about ctwc is the live commentators. They’re pretty much always good, a lot of video game contests like this have awful commentating

Theres something messy about this CTWC, gameplay screens constantly glitched, cameras being pointed to random places and also missing crucial gameplay segments for showing reactions. I dont know what happened this year
1. Gameplay glitches were due to a different OCR used prior to CTWC 2023 and the fact that 30+ year old hardware tends to mess up.
2. Camera work and OBS operation were done by a new crew this year as CTWC moved from Portland to Pasadena… so there are some growing pains.
We hope in the future with our first main event not a PRGE under our belts we’d be able to correct this issues

Fractal underperformed a bit. I'm sad to see him go, but still, great matches! Tristop was amazing.
the moment i saw Fractal is looking at his opponent screen I immediately knew he is going to lose. I don't get it why they do that, everytime someone starts losing focus out of his own screen it's over. Scutti did it last year and now Fractal

I agree with you and well said. It’s so stupid especially when it’s early-mid game, just focus on your own screen and game play. I think it’s paranoia.
He is keeping track of his opponent's score to track how aggressive he needs to play at whatever point during the game. If he burns extra lines, he risks widening the score gap between his oppening and losing more tetris opportunities later which are worth more as the level goes up. But if he plays for only tetrises to try and catch up to his opponent right away, an early top out is a risk, especially when droughts and RNG are a thing.
Problem was that Tristop was just a machine this year.
I love classic tetris, and the most thing i like is the fair play and friendship among these young players. Congrats
Ahah rolling is such a easy way for randoms to dismantle so called champions. No one can stay at the top for too long, take it back to DAS and someone will run the championships again. Pure skill
100% Americans, 100% under 20. We should have a Jonas bracket: Over 21 age requirement. Get the OGs back and return it to an adult game.
Actually only 6 of the players in the players in top 16 are under 20. The rest are in their early 20s. As for it being 100% Americans the bracket at the beginning of the video proves that wrong. So having an age requirement won’t limit it and veterans would still have trouble unless they learn rolling.
That’s why the Jonas cup exists in a separate event. But even then I don’t think people realize how much DAS as a playstyle has grown including the newer players (2019-now)
@@ITZsharky1 I largely stopped watching CTWC. I follow a guy named Sharky whom I'm a patreon supporter. A true DAS hero, imho. It's good if Tetris is still growing worldwide. DAS doesn't involve completely unnatural finger placements that limit access to normal people.
