Arjun could have if he converted against Vokhidov. Gukesh played one match less (although that was day one so even if he won that he would still be a couple of points short).
Arjun's year of harvesting Elo points at every tournament he could physically reach has been remarkable. No other top player has taken this very risky strategy.
It was not really a strategy. For some reason Arjun doesn't get as many invitations to super tournaments as Gukesh or Pragg, so he has been forced to play in open tournaments instead.

Yeah! It seems all advanced chess players who understand the game have similar feeling, but only Nepo and then Grischuk gave direct hint of it. I saw hikaru also secretely hinted it by pointing to a 1 minute thought move which required a long calculation in his recap of one of gukesh olympiad game. Others are just shaking their head confused and silent. I guess time will show us if there is something going on or he is legit an engine style human player. Both scenarios very exciting xd
@@ssep327let me tell you a secret, in the Indian chess circles gukesh was famous because he never used engines before reaching 2600 for analysis(you can see his trainer's interview on chess base India where he explains the philosophy behind training guki that way) because of that he developed his own understanding of the game, maybe reaching to such a high level without engine's help made him stronger than others when he actually started working with engines(it's logical coz that's exactly how it works in the programming world with developers and chat gpt as 100x devs have their own unique understanding unlike a normal dev so the way they give prompts to gpt and interpret what it gives differs significantly compared to a normal dev). And ding also mentioned in an interview that he(guki) has his own understanding of positions which is unique to him. Also he is a part of waca under anand and anand said in an interview that he asked gaiyoski(who was vishy's second for many WCs) to specially work with gukesh because anand felt after interacting with gukesh that the way he understands chess is very different than others and he felt working with gaiyoski(who was an expert for working with engines even among vishy's seconds)will be perfect for him
@apoorv219 thanks for the insight. It really helps to analyse the situation. I really had an agnostic stand towards these two scenarios, maybe a lil more leaned towards the pessimistic one , but now with ur information , i m gonna be more leaned towards the optimistic theory. But i m sure you understand why the playing style looked strange to me. Btw a legit player like this would surpass all other chess players in history , i cant see even 3000 elo a barrier! Which is insane ! Xd
@Agad: More insight into why certain position are bad would be great. For example , I felt in this game white pretty much locked himself with no space to move hence engine suggested throw away a piece for some activity. But I am not sure what moves lead to this bad position. Your insight on where slide began would be great
