    Not sure who invented it but the pieces names fit its Indian origins. King is King, instead of Queen we call it Minister, Rook is Elephant, Bishop is Camel, Knight is Horse and Pawn is Soldier. If you think about it these are very similar to the regiments used in ancient wars. So not sure if any countries used all these animals in wars back in the days. The game has been changed and modified with the time but hasn't been lost.

    • @Devjoshi112
      @Devjoshi112 ชั่วโมงที่ผ่านมา +2

      Also it doesn't make sense if a pawn (soldier) performs well he is promoted to a queen 😭, I mean wtf 👁️👄👁️, in Indian chess soldier becomes minister for performing well

    • @plasmakitten4261
      @plasmakitten4261 ชั่วโมงที่ผ่านมา

      I know the Minister could only move like a King and was very weak and also pawns have been changed around a ton (promotion, moving two squares, en passant) but did the other pieces work the same as they do now?

    Early form of chess was developed in india...with 4 types of pieces..chaturangana..then it travelled to Persia to europe.. addition of new rules , addition of new pieces opening..was developed..fun fact :in indian chess (long time ago) instead of queen there was minister..in villages still today people call the piece mantri(minister) not queen..

    Chess originated in India during the ancient times and was called "Chaturanga" in Sanskrit. It was commonly played for sharper battle strategizing. From India it went to Persia and was called "Chatrang" there, obviously a slight modification of the original Sanskrit word. During Persia's Islamization and Arabic influence, "Chatrang" got corrupted to "Shatranj". Modern-day Persian, therefore, calls chess as Shatranj and this word made its way back to India during medieval times. From Iran, it eventually made its way to Europe through the Arab world. This transport of chess from India to Europe through Persia and the Arab world is similar to multiple other things like Indian numerals, Place value system, Algebra, Astronomy, Medicine, etc. that reached early medieval Europe from India through Persia and the Arab world.

      @ameykasar 2 ชั่วโมงที่ผ่านมา

      Why does the word get "corrupted" when Arabs do it? And it gets "modified" when others do it? Do better. Dont add personal biases when it comes to historical facts.

      Too busy worshipping cricket players who carry on the colonial legacy rather than cherishing a sport which has had such an ancient connection with not just India but the subcontinent as a whole and even Persia (Iran). I’d argue that these formerly-Persian ruled countries, which remained under Persian influence for a long time (Azerbaijan, Uzbekistan, Armenia) had much better representation on the international stage than India (Vishy being the one to outshine them all of course).

    • @Justacommentor777

      @@DANGARJOR I think its Soviet influence on Azerbaijan, Uzbekistan and Armenia rather than persian because these countries belonged in the ussr and also the 20th century was dominated by Russian/Soviet grandmasters. Even in modern India it was the Ussr that started the chess culture in TN.

    India invented chess , shampoo, buttons, cosmetic surgery. They also invented the first planes on this planet and they were called vimanas . India developed trigonometry and was called trikonmetri, gravity was known to Indians way before Newton called it and was called gurutvakarshan and the fact that earth is round was known to indians wat before given they literally called geography as bhugol(bhu meaning earth and gol meaning round) . All these things existed way before europeans stamped them as their own . India was the contributer ro 47 percent of world gdp before the turks invaded and colonised fhem and then eventually brits did the same and reduced them to third world country. India has seen a millennia of colonization and india is just gaining back its former glory in very sector.

    Chess was invented in india with chaturanga :) then the persians took it and gave many pieces their modern movements and even some names! Like the rook! (The one piece the europeans improved on was the mantri/vizier which turned into the queen :) now im wondering if the term "isolani" for iqp is from the idea of "rani" (queen) actually!

    Chess is a battle, not a sport.
