Your part should compliment your face, not everyone can do a middle part, not everyone has the symmetry or bones for it. I think it's less trend or "dated" than simply working with what you have...maybe that dates me.

@@bobbijonestarot5751 It's true. For instance, our lips may have looked pretty symmetrical in our younger years but will change over time due to expressions, sagging, etc. I used to have pretty perfectly shaped lips and even smile but now one side is slightly different than the other and my smile is not as symmetrical. I also have one eye that I just noticed is sagging differently than the other. Now I'm finding all of this in a 20x mirror so it's probably not noticed by others as much, but I know more changes will come as I age -- It is what it is, unless you opt for surgery, which I am too scared will render me worse than if I would just leave mother nature to do her thing!

I get really tired of 20yr olds trying to tell 50yr olds what to do in order to stay trendy. When you get older your hair starts to thin so not all of us can do a middle part. Also, yes we know trying to grow out your gray hair sucks but you have to go through that pain of the roots to get it done. Telling us we look old doing it is just insulting. Please do another video on this when your 50.

Increased age can increase foreheads and thinning. Side parts circumvent needing bangs to camouflage. Also a center part elongates the face, so if maturation is causing drooping center parting is probably not the move.
Having a signature look is always a toss up with being current IMO. No right or wrong.

Hepburn scolded her niece saying it did not suit her and that she looked like a Quaker. To be honest, I get very tired of hair trends and I think following them is what makes people look dated. There was that time everyone had the caramel highlights, the wavy lob with the straight ends, then the super long waved extensions, etc. It’s as though one generation’s style is chosen to be “It” and everyone else is considered out of step. It would be great to hear about styles for different hair types and face shapes, low vs high maintenance and so on without reference to trends. (But maybe I’m the only one…)

Like the middle part for example, it clearly doesn’t look good on everyone. Can people just let their insecurities go and realize it’s ok to not follow every single trend and look exactly the same as everyone else? It’s gonna change as soon as it becomes popular anyway.

I can't think of one person who looks better with a middle part. A few look just as good but none that look better. It reminds me of Jan Brady on the Brady Bunch. I go a long with most trends but only ones that look better on me. Like darker roots or lighter roots look equally as good on everybody but one definitely looks more dated so that I can get behind but I am not parting my hair on the middle just because some kid on tik tok says so. Kids that I might add can't buy alcohol or vote yet they are influencing JLO??? Makes no sense to me. I get when your young, opinions of others matters so much but the freedom you feel at say 35 to not give a shit is a beautiful thing. An nothing is worse than someone 60 succumbing to that pressure. You can find a healthy balance an not go all in.

I agree with you. Except for a small minority of women, center part is less flattering. Unfortunately, it is the trend and has been here for a while, so I’m trying to embrace it. I’m optimistic that it will pass and we will all look back on the center part and laugh, but until then…We’re saddled with center parts and high waisted/high ankled jeans (SUPER unflattering).
Beautiful women with a slight gap in their teeth can look better with a center part - like Lauren Hutton, Lily Aldridge, or Anna Paquin. I think that Gloria Steinem looks better with a center part too.

Trendy vs what looks best on me? I'm going for what looks best on me. Sometimes that means it will be trendy and sometimes not. I can never wrap my mind around how people are such slaves to the trend police that they wear hairstyles and clothing that does not look good on them. Are we really letting condescending young kids dictate what part we have? Or anything else as far as that goes. (Supposedly now they are saying nobody should wear blonde hair anymore 🤦‍♀️) I would rather look good than trendy. Everything comes back in style anyway in time, lol. I love my side part. I think the last thing we need is a woman who is fairly average in appearance and age (not young, not stunning) telling "older" women what they "should" do with their hair and makeup. The only thing that makes this somewhat comical is that every women that's older is going to tell you that they've reached a point where they're going to do what they want to do like it or not. It's a bad choice for a video subject.

I am trying off center because side swept does exactly what you said…lays very flat and difficult to get volume that way. My forehead is very high; so, bangs aren’t quite right either. I believe, as many people I know do as well, that the center part does NOT look good on most people. You need to have an almost perfect face to pull that off. It also cuts off half of your face, as you cut off both sides of your face, like your CHEEKBONES which you never want to do. The center part is reminiscent of the 60s and 70s and is SO OUTDATED. On the contrary, the side part ADDS MORE VOLUME AND LIFT especially when you side part on the opposite side of the way your hair falls naturally. Doing this gives you an automatic lift. Making NO PART AT ALL IS THE BEST WAY OF ALL. Don't part it, just brush your hair straight back, give a little shake and let your hair fall NATURALLY the way it wants to and you will achieve the most beautiful, natural look for YOU! Try it, play with it and don't put an intentional fake part in your hair. The middle part isn't flattering on anyone.

  • @ALT-vz3jn

Center parts are unflattering on most people, because it widens the nose and highlights facial asymmetries front and center - honestly I’m a little surprised you’re pushing center parts, probably because you have one yourself so you’re biased. Those of us who are older have already been through past center part trends, either in the late 60’s-70’s or in the mid 00’s.
The side part just over the highest point of the eyebrow arch is the most flattering part in general. I think the advice of playing with your part is very good, but no one should try to push their hair into a center part if they subconsciously feel it’s not as flattering on them. JMO.

GREAT. I just had my hair done again for the first time since we began lockdown. It was practically virgin hair, it had grown out SO MUCH. My stylist gave me a full head of highlights (thankfully very thin at the very least) but I also felt this appeared somehow outdated as everyone now has balayage) not to mention it looked GRAY in the selfies I took when I got home. It looked amazing in the lighting at the salon for being what it is - a full head of highlights!! Can you tell me why this might be and also what I can do now to correct this, if anything?? Also, I inquired about adding a body wave to my roots for some lift because my hair seriously lacks volume and always falls flat. I don't care WHERE I go to get my hair done ( and I spend $$$ on my hair ) but anywhere I've gone (after 20+ years going to the same stylist, we parted ways over my being late to my last few appointments - he fired me as a client!!!) it always feels like I show pictures of color I like/want and it seems to go in one ear and out the other with the stylist going ahead and giving me whatever they've been doing anyway. Is this possibly because of the fact I've been friends or acquaintances with these guys for so many years??? I paid $275 for my "outdated" full head of highlights and that was HALF PRICE!! HELP.

I respectfully disagree with you here. A lot of them DONT listen, a lot of them don’t keep up with the trends. You cannot achieve the balayage look with a whole head of highlights. Point being as a stylist you have to keep studying if you want to remain relevant . You have to continue learning learning learning and keeping up with trends, because clients are going to come with pictures they have seen and say “I want this” , it is the stylists duty to be honest and say whether or not this goal is achievable, I feel a lot of stylists just slap a shit load of foils and hope you will be happy with this. The best stylists I have been to LISTEN before they start and they are also HONEST if the picture goal is achievable. If a stylist is happy with his/her client base and ALL they want is 80s style foil highlights , so be it. I have been through so many times with stylists and I have found ONE who was bomb, and was on point with new stuff and techniques that a lot of young women are after.

I'm in my mid 40's and have tried a center part a few times but due to a few hair cowlicks right up front it doesn't work for me personally. I think each individual, their face shape and hair type is more the deciding factor than trends when comes to what looks good/younger on each person. And honestly as long as I feel good about me, really that's all that matters 😊 I really don't think you meant that anyone should do or change something if they already feel great about their style/hair though. I did appreciate the recommendation regarding hair color, so thanks.

Do you think all women over 50 should have shorter hair?

Do you have any suggestions for hair parting with a ‘widow’s peak’? I love the center part but I feel like it just looks silly on me 😩

Kourtney Kardashian has a widows peak too, maybe you can see pics of how she styles her hair :)

I tweezed mine to the point where it quit growing, so there's that option. Lol. I hated the darn thing.

A center part actually ages you. Haven't you ever looked at a high school yearbook from the 70s? Almost everybody that does, says people looked older back then. I tell em, it's not that they looked older, it's that center part that's making everybody look older.
