The standard SMT with 17 tooth sprocket was a huge mistake by KTM which emphasised the throttle jerkyness and made the gearing too tall, they are all 16t now and what a difference it makes, tried remapping mine and threw loads at it trying to tame the low down roughness, 1st too high, second too low etc but 16 sprocket on the front and wow! best mod for this bike by far. Fuelling not the best for distance, between 120 and 140 miles to light on but i carry 4 litres with me just in case, put 16 sprocket on my 950 adventure now and that has changed it no end for off roading and city commuting fantastic.
im austrian and i own a bmw r1200gs adv as well as a ktm duke II - i think with this bike i can reduce to one bike that does it all :P ...still theres the 990 adventure that will rival the smt - but honestly - how often do you really have a chance to go off-roads?
Ive not heard good things about the tank range on the KTM, also, sitting on it at the show it didn't feel comfy enough for a cross continent blast like the Triumph, so for me it would be the Tiger....and i'm really interested in one!!
I have seen a Triumph tiger in australia that is white blue wheels moto bars all the bling no mirrors no back gard shit hot its monstering all sports bikes big time they have nicked named it The Ghost TIGER as it is there than gone
nice review but would have liked to see them compared against the VFR, pretty sure it would have put a huge fat grin on all the testers faces. next review ktm smt vs vfr please :)
4 brilliant bikes, but little reference to ability to carry full size (not token) panniers. It is very strange and pleasing to see the Ducati ,at long last, recognised as being a good looking motorcycle. Virtually every journalist seemed to call them 'ugly' from their introduction and I am sure must have affected sales of this cracking bike. Looks are subjective so please think before you condemn a 'different' bike as ugly.
The Ducati is an Ugly looking food mixer.Personally i think i`d take the tiger coz it`s british and the KTM is too expensive for the very minor differnce.

Great video, thanks so much for posting it.
mate, you mention the VFR ten years ago... but the mother of all these bikes is the TDM... love it!
I know, me too. What I meant was that I do like the design of the Ducati, those "eyes".
Strange that MCN's website review of the Benelli is so positive - no mention of an agricultural engine, quite the opposite in fact
or the write up in this weeks mcn they couldn't praise it highly enough...
SMT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! oh yeah!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Come ooooooon! Look at that cool design, man! After that, the Tiger. Other 2 just two "oldie" for me. Cheers!

Own a 990 Adventure for a while. the best, BEST, MPG I got was 29 mpg.
some things about the ktm: crazy inspection costs at short intervalls (7500km i got one), burns fuel like crazy - 7-10 litres
Triumph Tiger...best look!!!!! Very nice bike!!!!
nice video :)
I have a tiger 1050 as well... I wouldn't change HER with any other bike.
