If you obsess over being creative all the time, you might reach a point where you say to yourself, “I wish I was satisfied with just enjoying consuming these cool creative things and not always wanting to create something.” This has happened to me in the last couple of years. Had a few talks with friends who are always on that creative grind. Some of them feel the same way. If this sounds like hyperbole, I’ve worked as a graphic designer since 2001 and regularly contributed to art shows for a good few years. Put out a few well-received projects on old hip hop message boards. Fun stuff. It’s just burnout at the EOD. When I do personal creative stuff now it’s mostly drawing for fun and I’ve stopped sharing that stuff.

One thing I like to do is set a timer for a few minutes to ceeate something, to judge it, then to find any weaknesses to then research further if desired.
My trick is to force myself to create something every day for a period of time such as a week or month, then judge each thing (creating and improving a rubric, which is another creation)

One of my goals this year is to write 1-2 articles on Medium every month. I’m not doing it to gain an audience, I’m doing it to learn the process of writing. How to collect the info, extract the key insights, organize it so it’s coherent and share it with others. It gives a reason to dive deep into a subject that would have just skimmed over. I wrote a 3 part series writing book summaries, something that is boring to the majority of people but something that I get excited about! Your book was one of the big reasons I decided to make that goal for this year and it gave me the framework to do it! Thanks for the inspiration!

I think it's also essential to think about why you do what you do and if the way and medium that you're doing it is aligned with what you want. A couple of years ago there was this rush about having a blog, and it being like a must, for everyone. And it brought some uneasiness about what to do and having the right niche, and all that stuff that brought along the decision-making paralysis when, you know, if you're, say, a writer, you could spend more time writing what you want, sharing it by other mediums, instead of worrying about not being fitting to manage a blog or something like that

Tiago, this is such a well made video with so much value. As a former product manager, I would often say our primary objective is to be the lead translator within an organization. The engineering team can have the most brilliant ideas for example however if it is shared with the sales or marketing teams in the form of a technical specification document, the ideas value is lost because it is never understood. The curation and synthesizing of information to translate to various audiences is a skill that once mastered can lead to monumental successes.
Thank you for all that you do!

The fear is big in many people.
It stops them from creating from the heart (or at all).

Start by collecting and sharing your favorite content. Inspiration follows.

Thanks for this! I've been a consumer of your content for at least a couple years now, but haven't really done much to act on it. I think I feel a bit overwhelmed on where to start. At any rate, your point towards the end about not needing to be an "expert" is helpful. For many years now, I have a particular area of interest that I've felt called to explore and help others to grow in, but I haven't taken any steps (other than face to face conversations when it comes up organically) because I feel like I haven't reached the point I should be at in order to actually teach others. However, seeing this short video inspired me to not only recognize that I don't have to be an expert, but that documenting my own struggles and failures can help others.
On a different note, if you haven't already, I'd love to hear your personal thoughts/preferences on consuming entertainment in general and where your limits are. In our culture, it's so easy to do and so desirable, but I recognize that it rarely provides any actual benefit to myself. Sometimes it's a good way to relax and other times I see it as art to reflect on, but ultimately I've really begun to recognize how pointless a lot of it is.

I think networking, getting my content discovered, is key. But this means doing videos, going on Twitter... and actually, I do prefer writing blogposts.
Some mindset shifts in this video are really useful to me. Where to go though, how much should one think about being discovered, how far should one go to get discovered (move platforms? change media?) this is all stuff I'd like to hear from you too, if you continue down this topic.

I think something that is hard is that I can agree with everything in the video and still get hung-up on the fact that I fear that I will be bad at curating content and that people will judge me for it and I will have wasted my time.
But I really liked the point at the end of the video where you talked about basically posting content mostly for your future self to see. And I think that really resonated with me. I am already taking notes in my second brain and distilling those down. So why not just post them online for my self to see in the future.
Now if only I could get the knot out of my stomach and actually do it.....

    • @kalleidemation
      @kalleidemation 5 วันที่ผ่านมา +1

This is a good point. I also think that you don’t need to get rid of the knot in your stomach in order to start. You just have to force yourself to start, even if you don’t want to. Then it gets better. It never starts without force.

Thank you, Tiago, for this wonderful validation and encouragement of the less understood type of creativity: the one that emerges in response rather than out of thin air.
If Human Design is to be believed (I appreciate that modality a lot), the response-based, curation-led creativity is the natural way for 2/3 of the population (the called generators), for whom "just do it" simply doesn't work. Yet that approach has somehow been the baseline expectation in the prevailing culture. So your work is very important!
I also really appreciate you role modelling what you talk about and how clear your explanations are.
I'd love to hear more about your idea of writing at least for the future self, because I find minimal response deflating, "why share it if it's only adding to the noise and not engaging?" the inner critic says ...

This video feels hard for me to digest. Am not sure if it is because I knew most of what is in the video, I just feel there is something in the video I need to see and I didn't. Otherwise, this video might not have something new to me. Maybe this is why am confused.
