Hey, I know this comment is 3 years old lol and you probably won’t see this but they have a book series and so far it’s pretty good! Definitely worth a read if you want to check it out. It’s made by the writer of battle brothers i believe
This is a great game, and I'm always glad to see someone discovering and sharing it. Part of the difficulty is in the poor tutorial and explanation of actions and equipment. To reliably win fights at higher levels, you need to be VERY efficient in combat, and you only learn the MILLIONS of good and tricks through 100s of hours of gameplay, or reading strategy guides. Did you know piercing weapons do half-damage to the ancient dead? I see you you using bows and spears in your clip fighting them...you need different weapons to give those guys with spears, and backup melee guys to replace the archers. If you hover your cursor over a weapon, it will tell you state like damage and such, but if you hover the cursor over the attack types, those stats may be different for different attack modes. Spears get a bonus to hit, but do poor damage, so aren't great at higher levels. Swords get a smaller bonus to hit but look like they do a ton of damage, until you see that they do very little damage to armor, making them most effective against beast and such. Did you know killing zombies with a cleaver's cleave attack will decapitate it, making it impossible to resurrect? Tons of stuff like that. You also have to be VERY selective with fights, and understand some contracts can't be fulfilled, and some fights are auto-losses that you just avoid, and that's okay. Finally, characters are a permanent investment, so you have to be very selective on who you keep. That guy with the "craven" trait? Instant dump. Morale is VERY important. Why invest money and experience in a sub-par character. Hire lots of dudes, good backgrounds, and keep.the best. Poachers have lower stats than hunters, in general, so if you need an archer, invest it the better guy up front and you'll have a better guy at the higher levels, too!
I miss old-school RPGs, where you need to figure out stuff yourself, instead developers adding a tooltip to a weapon, like "+50 damage against undead". Love this game.

ABSOLUTELY love this game. Been playing it since it came out in EA and spent way too many hours playing it to comfortably share. What really drives the game home for me is the atmosphere of adventure. You go where you want and do what you please. Your boys will fight for you and you will cherish some of them and their greatest moments. Many will die, some will be retired early, many will go on to provide you with incredible feats of glory and bloody murder. The music is amazing, the sound is amazing, the challenge is amazing. In this game, the world is cruel and you lead a bunch of men that pick up the sword for glory, money, a new life and more. Be ready to watch as those same men that trust your judgement get ravaged by wolves, shanked by brigands, crushed by Unholds and turned into zombies by necromancers. In short, if you like tactics games and want a challenge. Get this game!

Great review! I've been skipping over this game for almost 2 years. I went and bought 2 other jrpg games that cost 60 each and got bored. I decided to take a fresh look at games I didn't give a chance and Battle Bros. Was one of them. I like games like Heroes of might and magic, tactic heavy games like fft. I went ahead and downloaded it. I didn't realize how in depth and one of a kind it was. That's why this video was a complete 360 review around the game and a solid use of 21 mins. It was so solid, it only felt like 7 or 8 mins
Been playing since it released. There is some nice looking new DLC coming later this year too. Still surprised that turn-based strategy lovers would have missed this one....
I wouldn't call it low fantsay, but rather low power. There are tons of fantasy aspects, but no super powerful dragon or wizard. It's very refreshing, it makes small things like a good quality spear matter a lot.
one tip for the game: you're not playing hero, you're running a mercenary company, so don't bite more than you can chew. You see a mission that give lots of gold ? That means it is really difficult, so you have to think whether your current mercenaries are well-fitted to take on it, this especially more true when you pick on an easy mission, but then it pay really well, so that means you have to think it twice. Read the story text in the contract, it give you hints of what you're possibly fighting against, so you can have a better judgement.
It really amazes me how this game is now several years old and is still barely known. This concept has been my dream game for a long time. Not being to play as a mercenary company as a long term goal was always one of my annoyances with Mount & Blade. And all this time there was Battle Brothers, which is basically a 2D Mount & Blade dedicated solely to that concept. Now it just needs a sequel that can improve on the possible interactions and role playing. The game is excellent but for example, I find it a little bit weird than the captain isn't a playable character, the dialogue and is super limited and you can't interact with other mercenary companies except when they are hired by your enemies.
This game is now on xbox one and ps4 lets go cant wait to play one day! Also there’s a game called low magic age which is almost like battle brothers but it’s mostly based on dnd 3.5 or 3rd edition and there’s a lot of customization which making your party.
Getting naked doesn’t matter anymore. It was more of a problem in the previous version of Alps, but now that they just reshuffle two tiles away from you, you also shouldn’t chase them as heavily. Best case scenario? Double stack your brothers into a supportive circle. Wait and see who the Alps mez, wake those brothers up and utilize polearms instead of other weapons to negate the need to push up while still doing damage. Easy peasy
How does it compare to Jagged Alliance 2 because thats still the best TBS I've ever played by far and nothing has hardly come close to that and i keep on searching for anything to scratch that itch. Maybe this could if it has a deep enough overland campaign.
Literally just got this for switch. Very much my shit. Only bad part I got game and northman now but gotta get desert and beasts next week. I love rotk since the early 90s and gemfire. Ff.tactics tactic ogre even fire emblem. Love warhammer shadow of horned rat or mark of chaos etc. (not 40k) total war etc.
Looks damn amazing. Nice grafic style, interesting gameplay. How is this not on Android?? Turn based games are ideal for touch screens (which aren't ideal for realtime-control), so this would be highly welcomed. Keep it up
I've watched Retcon Raider's playthroughs of this. And even though he does more than fairly well at it, I still find this game nightmarish in difficulty. As in, I think it makes Darkest Dungeon look easy. That said, it's a fun game, right up until I get slaughtered. 😁
This is a very good game; with hundreds of hours played I highly recommend it and all the DLC only adds to the experience. Be warned however, this game can be EXTREMELY frustrating and mentally challenging if you're not paying good attention! I can't wait for the DLC to come out.
Just an additional suggestions for those who are getting BB after watching this video. There is a mod for a game, called "Legends". If you play a game once or twice in vanilla you'll get a bot bored, cause variety in the lategame is kinda not properly presented. Yet Legends overhaul makes everything 2x better, additing seperate skill trees for each class, new abilities, mrchanics, new classes, enemies, reworked gear and camp systems and much more. So, after you play vanilla for 1 or 2 successful campaigns don't hesitate to add Legends. It is harder for a new player, yet there is soo much polish put into it. Plus it has truely unique settings and playstyles unlike vanilla. For ex. true lone wolf playthrough with a Crusader. Literally a campaigh that is done FOR 1 vs 20 battles, unlike the vanilla lone wolf. It's a very, very good thing to add for you new games, so you won't get bored woth some repetative moments of the normal game.
it wouldnt say its better, its just different and has a lot more fantasy stuff in it, if you are into that. i prefer less fantasy and magic to be honest.. but it is a really well put together mod thats for sure.. maybe ill give it another go tho.
Grrat video. Thanks, just bought the game. Only nitpick, would have been better to avoid the spoilers releted to all yhe races and their characteristics

100 hours, which is a top 10 for me. One of the absolute best turn based games ever made. new expansion looks exciting.
one tip for the game: you're not playing hero, you're running a mercenary company, so don't bite more than you can chew. You see a mission that give lots of gold ? That means it is really difficult, so you have to think whether your current mercenaries are well-fitted to take on it, this especially more true when you pick on an easy mission, but then it pay really well, so that means you have to think it twice. Read the story text in the contract, it give you hints of what you're possibly fighting against, so you can have a better judgement.
or there are many stars.. like 3 star mimssions dont take em until you are properly kitted out
I really hated the rng at first but when you do know what you are doing its quit fun. Also there is a beginner mode for less frustration.
Fire Emblem Binding Blade: “This is not for the faint of heart!”
Battle Brothers: “Ha, hold my beer.”
This is Mount and Blade/Xcom. And what a lovechild it is!
This video went extremely in depth into the characters without ever talking about what the games objectives are or how it plays.
wait what? the game objective is to be a successful mercenary company by killing fools. THe entire video was literally how it plays.
That's it I caved. Purchased!
The appropriate name for a Nachzehrer is Nacho.
It is the only thing they can be called.
Easy peasy
This video convinced me to buy this game! Thank you!
1000+ hrs in BB. Still not bored of it and haven't managed to complete all legendary locations. I liked Elden Ring but love Battle Brothers
The music in this game is kick ass.
you made me buy it. Thanks for the great Review
Hope you enjoy!
you should give a look to Mount & blade bannerlord coming 31 march
Why do we have to wait 14 more days? I hate remembering this game because every time I look at the calendar it's always just out of reach.
@@HavanaSyndrome69 i'm getting paid on the 28th so it's kinda perfect for me :P
@@Toshiro_Mifune same
@@HavanaSyndrome69 well, its tomorrow
Great to see this get coverage, the devs deserve it
Excuse me.
How did I miss this... Wonder if the DLC is on switch too cause I am picking this up right now.
I see it is not on switch 😢😭
It’s basically mount and blade but turn based
It is amazing. One of my favorite games ever
Look forward to hopefully some more coverage of this great game with the new DLC apon us
I actually bought the game because of this video.
Looks damn amazing. Nice grafic style, interesting gameplay.
How is this not on Android?? Turn based games are ideal for touch screens (which aren't ideal for realtime-control), so this would be highly welcomed.
Keep it up
tips : start with shield then lot of 2 hander later
its really amazing game. i played since it launched. im now waiting for new dlc. i also would like to see gameplay series for us :)
I've watched Retcon Raider's playthroughs of this. And even though he does more than fairly well at it, I still find this game nightmarish in difficulty. As in, I think it makes Darkest Dungeon look easy.
That said, it's a fun game, right up until I get slaughtered. 😁
Wow, I love this game! Waiting for a sequence.
Excellent review
Wow, this game is also on the switch?! This would have been amazing for my deployments
Managing brothers and business is fucking tough
This game is so good
This is a very good game; with hundreds of hours played I highly recommend it and all the DLC only adds to the experience. Be warned however, this game can be EXTREMELY frustrating and mentally challenging if you're not paying good attention! I can't wait for the DLC to come out.
Ive never been attracted to turn based anything but this looks aweslme
Best review opening: "Stop what you're doing and listen. It's fucking great."
Battle Brothers is excellent. Already played 123 hours, and i do not regret it.
hahaha i just checked my steam hours and i got 2384 lol .. thats pretty sad that to play a video game that long
Just an additional suggestions for those who are getting BB after watching this video.
You just forgot that this moder of mod blackmailed the devs. Behind this mod stands very bad story. People should not support more like this one
@@ulrichvonhermann2548 wait wtf did that modder?
it wouldnt say its better, its just different and has a lot more fantasy stuff in it, if you are into that. i prefer less fantasy and magic to be honest.. but it is a really well put together mod thats for sure.. maybe ill give it another go tho.
like the mount and blade LEGEND !
Grrat video. Thanks, just bought the game. Only nitpick, would have been better to avoid the spoilers releted to all yhe races and their characteristics
Love Mount&Blade, Civ, Kenshi, etc but can't accept that no-one in this game has legs.
@Dawn Razor miniatures with no legs?
can you advice battle brothers with magic????
Seems like a great game, although I am not a big fan off turn based battles, the depth seems interesting.
