  • I've been falling in and out of love with the Fujifilm 50mm F2 since I first bought it but recently I've been using it more and more in this video I give my thoughts and impressions on using it for Street Photography.
Street photography images were shot on the XT3 with the XF 50mm F2. All film footage was captured on XT3. All images are edited in Adobe Lightroom CC.

Great video as always! Couldn't agree more. I love the 50mm f2. The first time I was trying streetphotography, I shoot with 28 and 35mm, because everyone said, that it has to be so. But as a shy photographer, with the the longer lens, I'm feeling more secure. I love the seperation and isolation of people, reflections and subframing. The wider lenses also have their places and I use them a lot. As you said, the mixture is the right way. Thanks for your thoughts! 👍🏻

I think it really depends in where you are/live. I also consider myself a shy photographer and I prefer to keep a certain distance from my subjects. But I live in Porto, Portugal, where the historical city center is covered with very narrow streets.
A 50mm (75mm equivalent) makes it almost impossible to capture a full scene more often than not. I found the 35mm F2 to have the best balance for me. Good enough to keep a certain distance or capture some details, but still wide enough to capture more context if needed.

Good video. Have been planning to get the 50mm f2 and your video gets me much closer to doing that. Some of your photos are very good.

If you're used to shooting wide, as I have...picking up a 50mm equiv and an Ernst Haas photobook will expand one's skillset and photowork. Cheers!

I love the 50mm F2. I mostly grab it with my X-Pro3 for when it's raining, well at least I got some of my favourite shots with the lens in the rain. Sometimes I wish it was a 56mm, just to get even closer to the 85mm FF but I'm totally happy with the lens as it is.
    Great photos you captured!

I also enjoy the 50f2 for street photography. I dont have the x100v, but im using it with the 27mm pancace, so a similar setup ish. Chill and enjoyable watch, Thanks for sharing

Thanks so much! What do you use to shoot with the 50 and the pancake lens ?

@@LifeWorkDreams i use the xt5 with the 50 and the xpro2 with the pancake. I mix them up offcourse, but then i get that x100v compact feel… idk, but i like it a lot..

I bought the 56mm instead of this when I first started to shoot Fuji. I have regretted it so many times, but I’m not getting what I want for the almost unused 56mm, so I’m kind of stuck with it. Maybe I should just sell it cheap and get rid of it, as I really don’t like it at all. I also bought the 35 1.4, but that is a whole other story ☺️ Great video. Just stumbled upon your channel today. I rarely subscribe after just one video, but the 52 week GRIII video really inspired me. Keep up the good work 😊

Loved your use of this lens. I sold mine and got the 56mm f/1.2. Traded much more pleasing bokeh for light weight. I may be headed back because the 56mm is just too heavy. Actually, in the end I may just trade everything in on a Ricoh GRIIIx and be done with it.

I am very abstract and artsy. 7 blade is my preference but like the focal length on my XE1. Nice close ups.

I did, I haven't used it yet that much, I must do a photo of an "waffle pan" for a historical magazine today or tomorrow and I plan to use the lense on my X-H2 indoors with natural lighting and maybe a bit of artificial light support too@@LifeWorkDreams

The 50 F2 was one of my favorites, the only problem I really have with it is the auto focus. I have the XT4 and find that it works best if you use the limit focus, otherwise I have too many problems with it going out of focus.
The final solution for me was to get the 33 1.4 Made all the difference in the world. The number of sharp images I get are at a much higher percentage, and I don’t have to use the limit focus anymore.
Unfortunately, I don’t have a lens in that 75-85 that’s fast enough for focusing on street photography. And the new 85 mm is too sharp, as I prefer the original one. Unfortunately, it’s just too slow to focus accurately.
