  • In this dog training video, we go over one way to teach a nervous or anxious dog to stop running away from you by building their confidence.
We often use the Place command to help in these situations, because it gives the dog a job to focus on (staying on Place), and the Place cue itself helps to teach the dog to calm down and stay in one spot.
Cully is a Doodle mix (Sheepadoodle) who is naturally nervous or skittish when people walk near her. With dogs like this, it's important to take the time to build their confidence. In this case, we're using a command that the dog already knows (Place), which means that she always feels confident when doing it. Then we're using treats to condition and reward her, teaching her that the thing she's afraid of is actually a good thing.
