I have the issue with my 1981 Mercedes 240d. The AC was working and now it won't. The relay's are working and you can get the clutch to engage jumping the connection under the relay but the Auxiliary fan will not work.

The aux fan only comes on when the coolant and refrigeration temp switches engage.

It is so easy to overlook the simple answer and fix.
Hey Ralph I am looking for a nice complete interior for my 1987 300d w124.
I believe 1987 to 1991 is the same. Any color other than palomino. Do you know of anyone parting out a car who might want to sell an interior. I live near boise and I can't find a wrecking yard within 200 miles with older mercedes .
I figured they would be fairly common.

And this issue is getting worse by the week. So far I have seen the most promising leads on Facebook Marketplace - unfortunately. Good luck with finding either parts or a suitable donor car.

Thx. I have had to learn to go look at the simple stuff first instead of the quirky once in a blue moon issue. Good luck!

Yeah I got a 2003 Honda and I think that is my issue got to jack it up and get under there and check because I got power on my fuse and Ac pressure switch thank you for this video 👍🏼😎

Yeah, that could be the issues. Good luck.

Awesome video! My AC clutch is squealing in the morning, and then the noise goes away when I rev it once. Can this be fixed with some sort of greasing job you think? AC works right now but will probably fail when the clutch completely siezes.

Thanks. Are you certain it is the AC clutch and not the idler pulley? th-cam.com/video/seinGDJC_e0/w-d-xo.html
If it is the clutch that squeals that can have two sources. One could be the bearing that is in the AC compressor pulley. The noise should go away the moment the clutch engages. If it is truly the clutch that makes that sound then there may be a more serious issue with the compressor itself. How old is the compressor and when was the last time the system was recharged with Freon? How many times was it recharged? When the Freon gas leaks it also leaks compressor oil with it. This can cause the compressor parts to eventually not have enough lubrication. This can completely lock up the compressor and either completely smoke the clutch and/or the drive belt.

@@straybenzes Thank you for the response! Really helpful. Applying this to my w124 m103 btw. I hadnt taken the belt off yet, but I was hoping to first tighten it and see if that fixes. However, I couldn't get the 19mm tensioner bolt to loosen yet before I could tighten the adjuster 13mm nut. My ratchet is right up against the viscous fan cause it's not that big. I'm gonna shop for a bigger ratchet, and then investigate further and report.

@@straybenzes quick update. I noticed my AC clutch is spinning slowly with the pulley even when AC is off. However, when I turn AC on, it engages and spins faster at pulley pace. Clutch is definitely on its way out. Meanwhile, got the mechanic to get the 19mm belt loose, inspected belt, it was the wrong size 2271mm vs the original spec 2257mm for my car (I have AC but no smog pump). Replaced the belt this morning, noticed tensioner was maxed out, dialed it back, retensioned properly and voila, no more squeal! Even with the draggy AC clutch, it was just the belt that was squealing.

@@shaazy Nice detective work. I highly recommend getting the OEM belts from the Benz Classic Center. They are surprisingly affordable and they offer a perfect fit.
