    Thanks! Solved my issue. I did spray the u-joints with a liberal amount of penetrating oil and left it sit for a couple of hours and then rotated the steering 180 degrees and sprayed the other side of the u-joints. It actually temporarily fixed the issue, but obviously for safety reasons, I still ordered the part and replaced it - this just reinforced what the problem was before ordering parts. It's also worth mentioning that my truck is a 2014 with Electronic Power Assist Steering (EPAS). My truck's symptoms were that the steering resistance would drastically change every 1/4 turn or so, making it difficult to make a sharp turn - like pulling out and turning at an intersection.

    It's amazing how the internet works. I am having a steering problem in my 2013 F-150, I typed the problem into Google and this was the very first video that was pulled up. And well, the wd-40 will get me by till the new one shows up. Thank you good sir.

    Hey !!! greetings from Chile, just wanted to say thanx for the video. HAd the issue on my 2012 LAriat. Given that finding the shaft spare is not immediately, and I needed the truck operative asap, I showered the joints in W40. It worked - not that I ain't replacing the part, but allows me to keep driving in the meantime ... Thanx Agian !!!!!!

    Hello, I would just like to give you a big "thank you" for your video. I had an issue with my 2013 Ford F150 it felt like the power steering went out. However after watching the video I decided to see if this was the issue. I even watched another video on replacing the steering arm, but I had a local mechanic change it out for $45. The good news is, PROBLEM SOLVED." And it didn't cost me a arm and a leg. Thanks, keep up the good work.

      Kent Carter , I’ve also got a 2013 F150 XLT and just to see if we’re experiencing the same issue. When I first got it the steering was fine but here recently I’ve noticed during turning that the steering is best described as tightness in the wheel. No noise just a tad harder steering. Sound familiar?

    • @kentcarter3385
      @kentcarter3385 5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@jasonboyd7042 yes, after the steering arm was removed it was easy to see that it was free in one direction but not in the other, so when the wheel was turned to the right it felt tight like the power steering was going out. After it was replaced steering was back to normal.

    I have scoured the internet for this repair on a 2002 explorer and have not found one. I thought the F150 would be similar to the Explorer. Boy was I wrong. The lower bolt is hidden behind the transfer case. Took 2 feet of extensions a universal joint and a lot of swearing to break the bolt loose. Be ware that when you encounter a bolt that is hard to get out make sure you use a 6 point socket. I started with a 12 point socket and rounded off the top of the bolt, but luckily I switched to a 6 point and was fortunate to get it out.
    I now understand why there are no TH-cams on this repair. It took me about 3 hours to get that lower bolt out.

    I woke up to a stiff steering wheel backing out of garage. Had to go back in and noticed red foaming fluid all over concrete floor the reservoir was empty and fluid all over radiator (which is full) and fluid sprayed over parts of compartment. Looked at the reservoir lines and they were dry but top of radiator is covered in fluid. Temps were very cold last night, a couple degrees below zero so I'm wondering if that might have caused the problem. So now I have a F150 in my garage and hoping it's just a blown line. Any ideas of what it could be?

    What about if I feel a grinding noise while turning the steering wheel only to the left side at a stop not while the vehicle in motion . I was thinking of one of the steering shafts going bad or contacting some metal , what do you think about this situation ? PS when I’m driving at faster speed and steering to the left I don’t feel the grinding but coming to slow speed and turning left I do feel it . It’s like a metal or rubber contacting within the steering wheel

    Mines was jammed hard and i used silicone lubricant and fixed all my problems. No need to buy the part. Added another 100k miles before i had to spray it back.. DO NOT USE WD40 use silicone lubricants instead. Way better

      My nephew has been spraying his knuckles to stop the bind, and it helped a lot, but he just changed the part and immediately called me and said he wished he had replaced it instead. It is easy to fix and under $200 for the FORD part.

    So I have a 2012 F150 5.0L 4wd XL. I was going to work and my truck starts telling me I have a bad battery on a VERY powerful battery , then I coming home from work the other morning (after) and I go to slow down to make a turn and the steering and brake pedal started stiffing up a little, then I get to my driveway making a second left turn and the issue happens again. Now sitting in my driveway the steering is stiff moving or not. So this is my question for anyone who may actually know - from anther video I watched one guy said that 2012 has a electric power steering that is why his power steering fluid container doesn’t exist and I can’t find one under my 5.0 hood, because the battery is only a year old and the stiffing got worse as time went on does anyone think it could be the alternator?
