- Greetings viewers, this vehicle came to us with a customer complaint of stiff or no power steering assist. After closer inspection I discovered the actual cause and the fix was actually quick and easy. Don't jump right to the electronic power assist steering module before doing this simple check that could save you time and money.

Dude! I've been fighting my steering wheel for like a year thinking it was the electronic assist or rack that I couldn't afford to fix. I just sprayed some firearms lubricant on it and it worked. Thanks for the video.
I'm having the same issue, literally just today finally replaced the power steering pump because every valve in it was stuck, and it's still not working right, my mechanic (who's opinion I actually trust, he's a family friend) told me to start saving my money because I probably fried my rack from going so long without fixing it
I have the same problem but with a warning light on my dashboard it says advanced track service Did you have any warning lights

Great video! My 2012 f150 has 284,000 miles and this is the first time I’ve ever had a problem with the steering! First thing I tried to do was check the fluid. Well after I couldn’t find a reservoir I hopped on TH-cam and found your video! Perfect fix! Thanks again!

Love that Kroil Tim, for busting loose corroded stuck bolts. Good stuff. I bet it's good for lubricating steering sectors too.
Seemed to work like a charm. I like the kroil because its fumes dont give me a headache on top of it being an excellent penetrating oil.

Hey thanks for the video. I replaced my intermediate steering shaft (2011 F150) but after driving it 15-20 min. and thinking all is good, turns out it is still binding. Any ideas? Does it need an alignment? Possibly reprogramming as they do with the rack and pinion? Thanks

Hey Tim, I replaced the ps pump on my 01 F350, V10, AT. We bled the air and it seemed to work fine UNTIL WE SET IT ON THE GROUND. Then? Total STIFF WHEEL W/O ANY ASSIST at all. Any idea what it could be? Maybe a bad NEW PUMP? I'm scratching my head

I have ford f150 2017.
My power steering does not work, the OBD gives an error UO131, I checked the fuse and it is working, but I don’t know where to go next. Before that, there was an error with the RL Wheel speed sensor ABS, and I replaced it, the ABS error went away, but the problem with the power steering is still not solved.
I have almost the same problem with my 2016 dodge ram but mine seems to be Affected by the cold weather and I get no power steering is that the rack that needs to be replaced?
Could be. Or pump. There may be some cold weather fluid you can try that could help with the issue. Check into that. GM sells a cold weather PS fluid for their systems. I try to use it in any of the systems i service.

My 2013 was doing this for a few days and today I tossed a check engine light .Gotta put it on the reader tomorrow to see if it's related

Hey so when im down the road the wheel floats back and forth has a 2 inch play truns to easy in the wheel ,but stopped and or trying to do a u turn it takes everything in me to turn it u turn turns into a 9 pount turn

I have a 2010, so no electric power steering, but I spray my intermediate shaft down every so often.
Do you live in an area subject to corrosion? This one was near salt water.

I doubt it, that might accelerate issues by washing grease out of joints but just a guess. Too bad they dont put a lube fitting in it.

@@JohnR9965 or try to get some heavier lube into the bearings like garage door lube or spray grease. Hate that a non-serviceable part os so expensive.

What happened to the owner of a vehicle looking over the car once a month, we all know what rust looks like lol.
When used a motorbike to get me to work, i checked it every week end.
It never hurts just to have a look around before storing the machine.
Nobodys got time for that! Haha. Actually this truck had spent much of its life on a remote island far from any real service facilities. Probably not in bad shape considering where its seen use. That said, its a pretty common issue even for daily drivers. Things certainly aren’t the way they used to be.

Cannot throw the advance service track light on if it’s completely bad all my fuses are good when I tap on the steering shaft It steers again

My issue my 11 F150 XLT steering wheel does not turn but I can start the truck.. a couple of days if I let it sit for 10 or 15 mins all was good. Turn the ignition off and on a few times and was good to go all day . Now no active steering. Cant even turn the wheels. God what would happen on the road… I went back and forth say 50 ft No control…

Just had this happen today 2014 160k miles . Owned for 4 days and this happened .
Same 2014 xlt had it for 1 month now did this video help out or was it a different issue causing the problem

Ford cars and trucks will lock up on turns going downhill the steering goes into default, hope your children are not with you and you have life Ins.
