    I've been an auto mechanic for over 20 years. Many of the problems I see daily could have easily been avoided by simply following the vehicles maintenance schedule. I use a program on my computer called Automotive Wolf car care software to keep track of all the maintenance for my 3 cars, a truck and even a generator. It automatically can send you text message reminders when any type of service is due. Two of my vehicles have over 200,000 miles and have never needed any repairs. Want to save money? Follow your maintenance schedule!

    We bought a car listed 5,600 for 4K from a dealer . I kept pointing out all the repair costs the car needed and I’d have to probably pay them a lot to fix it. The sales man kept knocking off the price until 4100. I said go to 4K and I’ll take it. They did and I did all the repairs myself saving thousands. I had 500 into it . Then the wife got hit and it was totaled. The insurance agent kept asking me if it had all these options right down to the paint; yep it was a California edition and the book was 10,500 so we more than doubled our money, but we were out a fabulous car that we could not replace for the money .

    100% agree on Akebono. Akebono’s High Performance brake pads on a 2018 Ford Raptor are an enormous improvement over the factory stock pads. Stopping power is greatly improved, stopping distance significantly shortened, and they wear like I cannot believe. Better yet, their US Headquarters just so happen to be in Tennessee! BTW, I took your recommendation, Scotty, for wipers and added the Bosch Icon 22A and 22B for the truck. They were terrific in today’s storm…like night and day versus stock wipers.

    I've owned 5 Ford pickups - '62, another 62, 77, 97,2011 and loved every one of them. Don't break very often, generally cheap and easy to fix, rationally engineered. And I bought every one of them used, so like Scotty said, someone else took the depreciation loss. My 97 now has 200k on it and my mechanic said the motor is within 2-5% of new specs. We don't get snow too often where I live in Oregon. So, any time we do have snow, I always see 4WD trucks in the ditch. Evidently nobody here knows how to drive in the snow, and assumes that 4WD will allows them to go 50MPH. I always just laugh as I roll by them in my FWD minivan. That being said, I still have to be careful, because it isn't hard to get the van stuck. Fortunately it's light enough to push in a parking lot when it does happen.

      5.0 is a better motor than the 5.4 and I've heard all the horror stories as soon as I say mine has a 5.4 plus time working in an auto shop when the Triton first came out. They ain't that bad though once you figure them out... except the spark plugs... those suck.

      @redbull8661 3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      @@patoroyal I've got a 2008 with a 190,000. No problems, put plugs in at a 100,000 miles and they all turned out no problem and I change the oil every 3,000 miles and run motorcraft filters. Which I guess they tell me is important because of the anti flow back and bypass valve being on the threaded end of the filter. So in my opinion most of the problems with 5.4's is probably the owners and not the motors. lol

      @@steevegmtech7326 I'm love the 5.4 when it's a 2 valve. I put over 330K on a 2004 Expedition with zero issues aside from a ignition coil. As for the 3 valve? Regardless of year, I hear almost every 5.4 3 valve with the tick of doom. It would be easier to count the 3 Valves that I've heard without the tick of doom. I'd happily deal with the two peace plugs, and I'd even tolerate the chain guides going out with higher millage, but those VCT Phasers completely turn me away from every 3 valve 5.4 V8. Most on the road were not maintained perfectly, and even if it's quiet at time of purchase the odds are that it's been neglected and will start ticking in no time. Complete shame since the 5.4 has a VERY stout lower end and a nice, strong and flat torque band.

    The 5.4l 2v are great engines except when the spark plugs blow out. The 3vs are the ones I’ve heard to stay away from at all costs

    Owned a 05 lariat. Yes with the 5.4. Got it for $6000 with 130k. Engine ran beautiful. It had a miss. Plugs and coils. All good afterwards. Transmission died at 200k after that VCT started acting up, but not a big deal, i sold it for the $6000 and i miss it. Smooth ride and lot of power. Use a MOTORCRAFT filter. 5/30 never ticked until needed another oil change.

      I have an 04 with the 5.4 and it has 218k miles. I always put rotella 5w40 in it every 5k miles with a motorcraft filter and it's still running fine, coil lead wires are annoying for their clips breaking off, but it runs good. Getting ready to sell it.

      Stay away from the 4.6 and 5.4 3 valve engines. The 4.6 2 valve engines are very reliable. The best V6 engine in the F-150 is the 3.7 V6 from 13-14. 11-12 had problems with the left cylinder head.

      I have a 3v 4.6 Mustang it’s very reliable. My dad has an 03 f150 that he owned since new. 2v 4.6 runs like it did when it was new. Just whatever you do, stay away from the 3v 5.4!!

      @@potboy1734 I plan on looking for a V6 4 x 4 for my dad. The V-6 so that it gets decent fish gas mileage and is still able to pull stuff since he’s it for work, and the 4 x 4 since we live in Wisconsin and we usually see ice and snow. He currently has a rear wheel drive dodge Dakota sport and we bought it about six years ago with only 48,000 miles for $5400 and it’s been pretty trouble free. It needs a lot of work right now though hence why we might buying older F150.

      I got an 05 with the 5.4 3v ain't had a problem one out of other than o2 sensors. The biggest issue I have with it is it's not friendly to work on and the electric motor in the sliding glass in the back went out and had to replace the window motors and rails in the door
