- The man accused of beheading his father and showing off the severed head in a sickening TH-cam video has been deemed competent to stand trial. Justin Mohn allegedly said he beheaded his dad, a federal employee, with the belief he was a “traitor” to his country. Mohn then allegedly dumped the head in a cooking pot for his mom to find before stealing his dad’s car. Law&Crime’s Jesse Weber discusses the disturbing case with Dr. JP Garrison, clinical and forensic psychologist.

This case breaks my heart for the Dad. Imagine your own child doing this to you. Glad he’s sane and will stand trial.

It depends on the mental issue. Psychopathy and psychosis sound similar, but are very different things. A psychopath knows right from wrong and is grounded in reality; he just doesn't care. A psychotic person suffers from delusions and hallucinations, and might become detached from reality. Psychopathy is not a legal defense. Psychosis is.

I saw the uncensored video of this and it was one of the sickest things I've ever seen. he put the head in a pot that you typically boil water in at one point. and held it in the air while the head was in like a clear plastic bag at another point. this guy also made horrificly bad music on SoundCloud.

"Just evil" is a concept based in magic, not reality. It was how people explained horrific acts by others before they understood mental illness. Now we understand. It is mental illness that causes delusions and altered reality for people, sometimes resulting in them committing these abnormal acts. Let's go ahead and educate ourselves in the sciences and evolve past the dark ages.

Reason of mental insanity works on cases where the defendant is clearly not in the right mind and is unaware of the crime they have committed. I think the forensic evaluation gave him a clean chit because of his plans and purpose of what he did because it clearly shows his understanding and awareness

This guy could very well have schizophrenia or any other psychotic-based disorder, just because we haven't been told any history. It appears he received a degree in Pennsylvania (agriculture), then at some point moved to Colorado, then back to PA. In CO he had several domestic issues and interactions with the police. He was unable to find a well-paying job and had to move back home. He also tried suing the government and lenders more than once for forcing him into debt. One could argue that he had paranoid ideations surrounding his debts, whether they be as a result of cluster A personality disorder or a prodromal phase of a psychotic disorder. It's important to point out that age on onset is not set in stone, and 21 is not a cutoff. Some references extend to 27 or mid 30s. He very well may have a delusional disorder, which has a later age of onset (average 40), however, a delusional D/O does not exclude detachment from reality, as do cluster A personality disorders. I don't think this is a clear cut case of "insanity", however, I do believe a mental impairment played a key role in this murder. More than 90% of insanity cases are tossed out regardless.

I've watched a LOT of "sick and twisted" things because it's important to know what these people are like and what their victims are like (why I survived, for example--since survivors guilt is real!)...

There are cases where the person thinks demons are attacking them and so they legitimately think they are defending themselves and I think that qualifies as insanity. But this guy knew what he was doing. He was aware he was murdering his father. He intended to end his father’s life.

TH-cam could have a special red button on every video called "Terminate" that lets a viewer private a video that has violence and gore and notifies the company that the video has actual carnage. And the company would have to review the video before allowing it back up.
(Yes, a button like this could be abused, but when a video like that is posted, it would let people immediately remove content that contains real bloodshed and actual violence.)
