Gotta love how the narrative of this game turns what would be just a character with dementia and wondering if he's affected by the story too. Eventually the characters are treating Saga like how they treat Pat. I love all the layers this game has.
The more I thought about the game, and the more I thinks that Pat wasn't having dementia but just being affected by the story while being a parautilitarian himself that knew something was wrong. Everything he fail or got a hard time to remember were things that happen only because of Alan story which happen only over 2 days in the normal world. He fail to remember Martha death as she died in the story to make an overlap. He fail to remember how to work his station and where his home is because he remember his own home and his radio station instead of the simili being in the vahalla retirement home, a place only existing in the Story. He fail to remember his guests/programs as they are only other residents of the retirement home. He is not set by dementia, just an old man having an hard time adjusting to false memories he know are wrongs, like Ahti
James Carroll Jordan did an excellent job in his performance. You could really feel Pat's confusion and stress from having such difficulty remembering things, some parts felt too real for me.
My radios glitched in both my playthrus so I was never able to get more than 7/9. This was one of the most interesting parts of the game for me so I’m glad I can listen finally!
@@Invincible-Under-the-Sun It's because two of the radios are hidden in chapter 3. They can't be activated once chapter 4 launched and so if you miss them, you can only reach 7/9 instead of Pat full descent
I got so worried when i was listening to the radio shows through my first playthrough that Pat was becoming Taken. I loved Pat in the first game and i didnt want to fight him
That's a weird choice of wards Pat-"Somebody's trying to twist the story around, and I don't know quite why" I hope to god Alan Wake fixes poor Pat's memory problems by writing about it or this is the more unlikely cast that it could be that Pat seems to remember things that Alan wrights about and the changes that take place because of it either or this is a really good performance from the voice actor and is it just as scary if not more scary that being in the dark place. Another notable thing Pat says is "Do you ever feel like everything's spinning in a circle and you're trying to just keep your finger on it" it's not a loop it's a spiral could just be him talking about his memory tho.
I really hate how most of the original game cast got either ignored or destroyed. I get that most characters weren't young and 13 years is a lot, but damn I got constantly beaten over everytime I was excited to remeet a character.
It was sad, but there was a feeling of right to the feeling of wrong. 13 years is a long time for people to change, to become older, to be plagued by new problems. It was sad how the original cast got sidelined a lot, but it didn't feel reasonless.
Thanks for the upload! I've been looking for this ever since I first played since it was initially bugged. This is probably my favorite subplot in the game, it's so sad but it's got funny moments too.
Here's the rub though - Wendy Davis like Saga's daughter both died after Alan Started writing his two scripts. So, is Pat having dementia or is he unable to reconcile changing realities because he himself has a bit of power (unbeknownst to him). I mean, he aged a ton in twelve years. Maybe it's just dementia, but I love Pat - so I hope it isn't.
It's clearly both, like he remembers the real version but the fact everybody is telling him otherwise. It's messing with him. He thinks he completely lost it at the end but it's just the alzheimer I guess
for me, that last one really cements the idea that pat DOES remember the original reality just like norman, but unlike norman, he doesn't have the mental fortitude to combat the story changes in his old age leaving him confused, scared, and frustrated.
Deerfest Floats is the one that's still bugged for sure. Even though it doesn't show up on the radio show list, everyone who played through the game before radio shows were patched recently is probably familiar with that radio show already since it was played every time at all of the radios in the second half of the game. The radio shows after Deerfest Floats (in particular, Terry's Guest Call which everyone seems to be able to unlock with the recent patch) just would not play at all before that recent patch. The 9th radio show I am honestly not entirely sure if it's a bug preventing it from being unlocked or not, but according to the game's scripting it looks like it should be available after the player reaches Return 7: Summoning (the Dark Ocean Summoning).
agreed. i played through it twice though, searching everywhere, and im pretty sure it just does not exist or is triggerable. im not sure how he found it. @@Renoistic
Can you explain how you unlocked them? because I would love to get 100% collectables in my game as well. Did you use a specific cheat table for it? Ive been trying to find an unlocker but I can only find trainers and tables that effect gameplay (god mode, infinite ammo, etc...)
The list on the Alan Wake wiki matches what I have unlocked so you should be able to figure out which one is missing using this. alanwake.fandom.com/wiki/Mind_Place#Various_Artists
In a world where reality is constantly being rewritten, having dementia is still the most frightening aspect.
In a world that is constantly being rewritten, everyone has dementia. And that is truly a terrifying thought.

Poor Pat Maine. Seeing dementia take my grandma really makes this plot hit hard. Thanks for uploading these since my radios glitches out in game.

I think everyone got 7/9 the 9/9 here was found in the game files. The developers said they fixed it but they're still bugged so idk.
Same! Although I must say, for the longest time I thought Radio 7 repeating itself was intentional.

Tapio finally learned how to hang up at the end
He just want somoeone to talk to
You dropped this, 👑

My grandmother lost control of even language towards the end. This one, this hit harder than even some of the more "straight" horror segments.

God it's like everyone except crazy lovable Rose and the old gold of Asgard from the first game had such a sad ending :(

Has anybody actually found all radio shows during a playthrough?
I like tapio is just happy to bê there.
Never could really get the other 2 radio shows.
“I dont really care if Alan dies”. Do you feel the same after this?
amazing, thanks for revealing that last radio show for us. i had done 2 full playthroughs and never ever found\discovered it. its a bug you say?
