Thank God somebody finally stated where the ground was that they cleaned for this particular fuse box and relay. I've been asking all over the comments. Do you happen to own a Cherokee or a Commander?

You Sir, are my hero! Just wish my son could have found your video prior to 3 days of head scratching and $200 in parts on a 2005 Liberty Renegade! Turns out about 35 cents worth of butt connector and wire did trick. You are THE MAN!

Man… I have an appointment at the dealer to fix my intermittent click, no start problem on my Jeep Commander. I had already changed the starter. Then had the same problem. They were going to charge me $180 diagnostic… The service guy already speculated, “if you have already changed the starter, and the fuses and relays are fine, it might be the ECM or a problem with the Power Control Distribution Center.” I’m guessing I wouldn’t have gotten out of there for under $750. Thanks. Great work… and really good video!

Thank you as well!!! Two days battling with the starter and so many wires and then I accidently grounded the wrong relay wire and blew a couple fuses but when I rerouted the correct ground wire from that relay like he showed in the video the jeep started right up!!! Thank you thank you!!!

Just check, clean and improve all chassis grounds relating to those areas. Should solve the problem for anyone viewing this. I do this on any older vehicle of mine. Battery to chassis, chassis to engine, ending to frame, engine to chassis, always check, clean, tighten those grounds. Or replace the wiring if they are suspect. Same on ANY motor vehicle, motorcycle, atv, ANYTHING.

Good job Cliff! Those leads and contacts under the fuse/relay box, are the problem with mine. Again, no ground, but the contact on the end of the ground wire was corroded, and not making a good electrical connection. Now it cranks, but doesn’t yet start, I suspect that there are other problems of the same type in that wiring of the box.

  • @kamillop.7842

Hello, there is one shortcut path here, the (-) on the relay electromagnet is not always conected with GND, this signal is comming from powertrain control module, so your solution will work but you can also run the starter in cases when normaly you can't do this, i.e. in case enginee is running already.

I'm having this issue and I just replaced the starter and it didn't solve my problem.
This fix doesn't make sense though. If the relay clicks, then you have ground on pin 85 of the relay, and power from the ignition on pin 86. When those are activated, the relay closes the path between 30 (source power) and 87 (output). 87 of this relay goes to the spade connector on the starter.
The thing about this fix is, all you did was connect pin 85 to ground, but if it was a good enough of a ground to click before the fix, then it was a strong enough ground...
I'm not saying that Chrysler doesn't have terrible grounds all over the car, because they do. I just can't make sense of this fix. A relay doesn't click but not work unless it's broken...

There are 4 tabs along the sides of the lower box. Start with the two in the back by simply using a small, flat screwdriver to release the clips and pull up. Then do the same on the 2 in the front and pull up. The wire harness coming up into the box is tight but you can move it around enough to get to the underside.

The only thing that I notice from time to time is that fuse box gets very dirty inside. There might be some kind of air flow issue that goes directly under and in to that box. So humidity, rain, and dirt could be corroding the connections.
About a year ago I changed the relay and the wire going to the starter, that’s what fixed mine.
Now I have to change my ignition switch, because all of my electrical is going wonky. Hopefully that’s what the problem is🤞🏻
