I used to have crush back in the high school, I asked her out by using this technique in order to asserts my control and dominance. Now we are living in the same roof, behind the metal bars and not so friendly bodyguards.

Moving my training from techniques to principles I made arm drag one of my bread and butter moves I love it and I found it pretty useful not only in a MMA contest but also in a self defense one. I like your entries. I would like, if possible, to see also some follow through options after you made the arm drag. Thanks

This has cleared up why my arm drags havn't been working (I've been relying on pulling them rather than moving myself). Thank you for the tip! Oss!

First week of BJJ with some wrestling background my arm drags earned some respect when I rolled. Still got subbed a lot, but made them work for it, heh.

Im tall and skinny, and my grappling buddies are short and gorilla build, so i do this thing where i do an arm drag, but i start with one hand on the wrist, but the instead of grabbing the elbow, i shoot my hand under their arm, and hook their armpit with inside of my elbow. You can lean your torso back and you get this crazy leverage, ill do that to lift them up, just a little to destabilze, i can rotate my arm around so i can palm their elbow with a normal arm drag, before i let the lifting force off their armpit, so even though im not very fast at all, the transition can be very surprising, and helps me with my shorter stronger faster sparing buddies.

  • @ThePhilipoconnor

Great video but to be fair this is only one variation of the arm drag. A good catch wrestling arm drag should also be a hyper- extension of the elbow in order to close the gap. What also works really nicely is instead of grabbing behind the elbow, grab up behind the shoulder, the effect is much greater especially with a concerted effort to move behind your opponent at the same time and the arm can feed very nicely into a rear naked 👌🏻

Wassup Shane! I got a question, I've been having some difficulty winning or like being effective in my sparring sessions. I did Boxing for 6 months and I switched to Muay Thai about a month and a half ago. When we spar with the hands only (boxing) I usually get the upper hand, even with experienced fighters because I focus only on their hands and my Philly Shell guard is quite good and I counter real fast. It all goes downhill when we do a full Muay Thai Spar, I have issues with keeping track of everything, I use my high guard to defend but the risk of taking a kick makes my eyes go all over the place and I just can't counter right, I don't see the kicks coming and it's just frustrating. This happens when I fight people that have been doing it for a year or more. Question is, how do I control and keep track of my opponents moves when it's muay thai ?

I understand that this is just an example but at some point it seems weird to me to release a perfect grip that you already have on the back or shoulder that goes through opponent's armpit (provides good control and opportunity to make a throws to at least three directions) + having a control over the other hand and just go for the switch that MIGHT work out successfully but might not as well...

I just started boxing. I did look at some videos on TH-cam and other movies and they all threw the hooks the same. My new couch thought me the hook like this: when you throw your elbow must be higher than your shoulder and your fingers in the face of the opponent. It's a really strange twisting move and I just dont think it's right. Any typs?
Edit: Nevermind I think that's called a overhead hit or something
