    Just what my son needs! He’s been struggling as a sophomore varsity wrestler bumped up in class facing opponents usually much taller. He needs more tools in his arsenal. I’ll have him drill this tonight before his tri meet tomorrow. TY

      You best tell your son that he better not be trying to fight people bigger than him and try some wrestling moves. I assure you, the result will not be the same that you see on some "pride fighting" show or ufc, your son will wind up hurt bad.

      Agreed! I remind him of this often. He’s a 17 year old always wanting to test himself though. With regards to my comment however, it was in the scope of high school wrestling. Due to a very stacked roster, he has always wrestled up in weight since his freshman year, and as a result, often times faces much taller opponents who out weigh him usually by 10lbs or more. Today is actually his first high school practice of the 22/23 season. He has put on some mass this year, so as long as he doesn’t cut too much, his weight should be better. He will still undoubtedly face taller skinnier opponents but with another year of hard work under his belt I think he will have a good season. All that said, I do worry about altercations on the street though. You never know what sociopath you may bump into out there.

    Love that you mentioned the "tension creates tension " concept . It applies to so many martial arts . I do a lot of sensitivity and flow drills from various ones and they really help to apply that , You can turn the tension on and off depending on what reaction you want. Also as a taller , bigger guy, I can tell you firsthand I don't like grappling with somebody shorter . They have lower hips and shoulders so I lose the use of certain major muscle groups. It's hard to stop the other guy from raising your elbows because they have the leverage .

    I just started BJJ and I’m woman at 5’3” 110lbs. My gym is males only so everyone is bigger and/or stronger. When I tried this they just kept pushing my head down and away 😆

      Have to do it quickly so they don't get the chance to push it. Once u mastered it I think it should be fine. Anyway gonna try this today in my BJJ practice since I am small too. Will see how it goes

      It wont work. You are not going to beat a Man in a fight, get over it. This is assuming you are a female and not just some idiot pretending to be female online. These stupid "techniques" these folks are doing on these videos will give you false confidence and get you hurt. My advice, stay your role as female and dont even try to be like a Man. I'm not being "mean", I'm being real with you. You gotta get real at some point and realize that this "bjj" stuff is not going to win fights in the real world. Scratch the videos you watch online, and get real.

      Also, have another option at the ready. This one works well with an arm drag as second option. Similar starting position. Mix it up so they are kept guessing.

    I just grappled a 120kg guy and I weigh 80 kg. The difference is this big guy was a seasoned grecko-roman wrestler. Forget about duck unders against his level of skill and experience. Best chance is to go for a low single.

      @@dominicbenjamin8186 you can't lock up with him or handfight. You gotta use your feet and kinda box with your posts and collar ties (see Jordan Burroughs for this) and go for sweep singles where it's harder for him to sprawl on you. He can still do it obviously but since you have an outside angle, leverage is on your side. Go for low singles where even if he grabs you with a chest lock, at least he'll be throwing you from his knees or butt. So less dangerous. You can't hand fight a greckoroman wrestler who is bigger, stronger and more skilled, you can get really hurt especially if you're not used to being thrown. If he gets an underhook on you, better tighten up the overhook and go for a dump, which probably won't work and he'll get you in a headlock but if you have a really good arm drag from headlock while on your knees this is actually quite surprising for big guys even the skilled ones.

    Nice move thanks for demonstrating on a larger opponent. Ever see the vids where they tell you this is the best takedown against a bigger opponent and they do it on someone smaller/same size yea kind of annoys me.

    I’m 6’3 and was 230 lbs back in high school. I have grappled with someone over 100lbs more than me in training. Natural strength from farm work. He was MONSTROUS. The difference in power and reach was nigh insurmountable. It felt like trying to move a table that was bolted to the ground. Sure I could get one up on him occasionally, but more often than not he could easily destroy me if he wanted to. Might as well have wrestled Thor Odinson. There’s always going to be that one guy that sees this and suddenly gets a hyper swollen ego.

      If that guy does, then it will soon be deflated once he tries it and loses. But that could happen to anyone regardless of size and training.
      On the the other hand, some guys think all they need is size. Others, like me, rely almost completely on strength and endurance. Your mistake when taking on the bigger guy, was trying to out muscle him. Next time, run him around until he tires, they move in for the kill. Of course, that suggest your have some measure of endurance training above his. If you're both lummoxes, then it won't work.

    Great instruction! Great technique! Very practical. I’m an old BJJ guy so most of my opponents are younger, stronger and faster, but I can do this movement.

    I was doing that against my 300 lb friend just off of instinct. I thought it was common sense. My favorite move to do on him is faking a single, pivoting and immediately backpacking

    If you clicked on this video… let me tell you something.. im 5’9 on a good day and 5/10 times i would fight guys over 6 foot in a street fight i would lose. I don’t know about you but I didn’t like those odds. You have to have a knife on you. Or a gun, knuckles, you have to have a equalizer. Now, i win 10/10 fights. 👍🏻 the more you know.

      5’9-5’10 is the perfect combo for speed/power..you must really suck😂 I would rather fight a slower, bigger guy all day than a shorter skinny dude, strictly due to their endurance..most of the fighting legends are under 6 ft tall, but it is obvious you never looked in to that😂

      So you don't know how to grapple or fight. Cause my buddy who is 130 dog walks 200+ pound people. Even went to a high school and tossed their 230 pound wrestling coach around. 2 time state championship winner. Flo national winner. Aside from grappling Muay Thai goes a long way too. A single leg kick is humbling bodybuilders.

    I used the russian 2 on 1 in HS when I wrestled above my weight class. To wear down a big guy HANG on that arm and work around the mat. You soften him up and get him tired.
    From that 2 on 1 you have SOOOOO many attack options. Easy to snag a leg and trip. Also easy to grasp a single leg(cut to a high crotch of you feel like putting him in the ground), arm lock and do a standing peterson, or trip the opposite leg.
    Look up a wrestler named Ray Brinzer. Use his trips w that Russian 2 on 1(Ray taught it to me). You’ll be unstoppable

    I’ve always has issues with some aspects of BJJ. I’m a big guy, have had some martial arts training and been in some bad situations. I remember sparring with a BJJ black belt and we were practicing movements and capabilities of taking down a larger opponent similar to this. The problem I found was that in the majority of these situations, it was fairly fatal for the smaller BJJ guy when we were addressing non sport fighting scenarios. For example the majority of the time it was very easy to eye gouge, bite the jugular or rip the testicles unless you gain the back very quickly. If the smaller opponent is caught on the defensive dealing with these attacks, the larger weight would then lead into neck control (death) or an advantage. However this video is 100% on point. He goes for quick back control, recognizes the difficulty of the situation and is very technical about it. Kudos and respect.

    I wrestled Heavy Weight at 6'1 265Lbs, When wrestling the smaller guys that were state tourny good at 189 & 171, the ones that were the most successful implemented Sweep Singles on me. That way they just had to fight my whizzer by getting to my ankle and limp arm out.

    So glad that I ran I to this. I’m an officer and although this is not where I will be mostly likely you never know when. Someone just wants to grab you and take you to the ground. Once in pinching his leg that wrist control Rhein same side will allow me to keep him there until help arrives as well as doing more distraction techniques it just detach and hold him down from afar. I will be subscribing.

    IDK if its the best option, of course if it works it looks great .Depends on body type and athleticism etc. Definitely a option. I like the sweep single against bigger guys. Goes for the single leg but avoids the sprawl and you do not have to engage or grip up with the bigger guy. Ive used this technique against many players and have found it quite effective. This is mainly because i am very quick. Bottom line if a guys is bigger than you are, then you must have some advantage to counterbalance it. Whether it be speed, stamina, technique, or athleticism. It just cant beat a bigger guy if you have no other advantage to fight back with.

      I like the single as well for larger opponents. I've described it as the "best overall takedown" in general in other videos. You're also right about needing some kind of advantage with attributes. In addition, if they're bigger you DEFINITELY need better technique. That is, you need to be smarter about what technique you're using and better at using it offensively than they are at defending. People are always asking, what if he's bigger, stronger, faster, has better cardio, and is as good as you technically? Well, then you lose lol you lose very badly.

      A Swing single although effective in this context, in my opinion can be somewhat advanced for the common wrestler, requires confidence as well as some swagger to pull off clean.
      the technique taught is better, but how about just a simple crack down on the ankle if you pull them towards you to bait, then when the naturally react to pullback, you just drop down to the and suck it under your shoulder, climb them like a fallen tree. OR single leg to treetop. Idk it’s been so long for me idk how I ended up here lol

    This was great, thank you for the video. I have not practiced Jiu Jitsu for years now, but it is still interesting to watch people that know what they are doing, and also know how to present the information well.
    One thing I didn't notice until between the 7:15 and 7:30 point, I believe, was how your were landing on your butt. I was initially thinking "ouch, that could hurt landing that way", then at the point of the video I mentioned, I saw your leg was bent so you were landing more on the outside of your upper leg and butt. That makes it seem like it would be less painful when learning this move.

      Oh yah, totally painless. It's a very short distance to drop and my inside post hand is supporting most of my weight. The leg/butt merely 'touches' the ground then we turn and take the back. Nice observation!

    I needed this video because it’s been a while since I wrestled and my brother who likes to play fight a lot tried me and we were wrestling for a good while he has no experience but he’s 2 inches taller, weighs more, and is a bit stronger than me. While we wrestled I felt so sloppy because I completely forgot what to do I was only able to win because I got him tired. Watching these videos to refresh myself.

    Clean! Great break down. I’ve used it many times to take much bigger guys backs extremely fast with very little damage and energy use.. other than a quick arm drag to high crotch. This is the way to get quick control and choke out somebody a lot bigger than you.

    Looks good 👍 in practice I ( 6'3 145) sometimes wrestle our heavyweight (6'4 285) and I've been struggling trying to avoid the tie up, headlock throws, or single - double legs as I've just been killed by his big arms and heavy sprawl. My go-to at the moment is a low single where I throw my bony shoulder into his shin and pull his heel in creating that painful leverage against his bone.

    I'm curious how often this would pan out in an active resistance scenario. I imagine it wouldn't necessarily work in a street fight situation where the guy is going to be aggressively trying to hurt or grab you with both of his arms, and if he's that much bigger and stronger I can't imagine holding his arm in that position would be achievable. Could be wrong though, I'm just skeptical

      To quote Ricky Bobby, "60% of the time it works, every time." But in all seriousness the Boot-Scoot is definitely a sport Jiu-Jitsu move. When one develops a reasonable level of proficiency with the Boot-Scoot it will be one of the highest finishing rate takedowns in your tool belt. It's the one move I can guarantee I'll get a takedown with based solely on it's simplicity and surprise factor. When it's done properly it truly feels like it came out of nowhere. Very reliable, very safe, high finishing rate.

      @@WrestlingUniversity yeah, I figured...I think it's maybe worth being clearer in future that sport is what you're talking about in videos such as these - because when someone hears "The EASIEST way to TAKEDOWN A BIGGER OPPONENT!" without the addition of "in competition / a sport setting", it's potentially setting very dangerous false expectations for a lot of people who are looking for self defense information when they click on videos with titles like that...and not all of them will know enough to be able to spot the difference

      I mean there is no discussion of ur opponent trying to physically harm u for the most part I think an individual with moderate common sense would think sport when watching this. There was one reference I believe to an opponent potentially being an unskilled grappled to be fair. That being said MOST street fight end up in a clinched position at some point so this is very useful IMO as is wrestling in general to all forms of combat. It’s up to the individual to know where to apply it. After the butt scoot I would maybe want to use the momentum to drag the polenta down while throwing right hands as is going down or immediately after for example. Whew forgive me it’s late and I’m stoned, I coulda kept going but I had to catch myself there. I found ur video useful thanks

      @@WrestlingUniversity Honestly dont mind these people theres always a couple of "that wouldnt work in da streetz" guys on every single bjj/wrestling/martial arts video, the reality is if you train a grappling sport you are better positioned for self defense then 90% of people, the rest of its application to self defense is generally common sense and teaching that is not your responsibility.

    I blew my back out trying to take down my buddy who was 320 I was 185 at the time only exactly the way you demonstrated at beginning when you shot in and he came down on your back. I shot in he immediately pummeled down all his weight and force on my back wile I was bent over locked on his leg. My back popped I hit the floor and couldn't get back up pain was tremendous. Had to call a ambulance they showed up and took me out on a stretcher. My back was messed up and ended up on pain killers. Still 10 years later I can easily injury the area of the back. Any repetitive work that requires using my lower back makes my back act up bad even today. Wish I knew these techniques back then. There's weight classes for a reason.

      @@earthphoenix7068 ego is the answer, I had taken him down many times before with single and double legs, judo take downs Harai Goshi, uchi Mata to name a couple. manipulation of his body weight. I was very strong and fast at the time but he was just ready and reacted hard and fast. My approach was a little sloppy that day as well. For a big guy he was no slouth flexible and he had some wrestling experience in high school. Judo worked best on him

I see that you're at a jiu jotsu gym - ever thinking of covering how to finish armbars from guards without getting slammed? I'm 155 lbs and everyone does this ND it's illegal in pure jiu jigsu so I can't find any Dvice on that online lol

    One thing a lot of people miss , when you are small. Most big people also have big feet . A huge target ,one good stomp and they are disabled. Always wear good strong foot wear .

    the problem is when he gets a feel of your lower weright he will try to pick you up or double leg you and change all his base. This either has to be fast or it wont work well I think lol.

      Speed is a factor in nearly all technique on the feet (as opposed to on the ground). Being that humans have evolved to move quickest from the feet your windows of opportunity are significantly shorter than when on the ground. This is a basic difference between wrestling and bjj. Also the reason why wrestlers seem so fast, they've been trained to move effectively from the neutral position aka the feet.

    At 3:00 he says, "If you can do a sit-out, you can do this move." There is a problem, though. Most people cannot do that type of sit-out that quickly. It takes far too much flexibility and far too much agility. Most people are not coordinated enough to do that under in such a way - especially while under the weight of another person.

    A lot of these need to be practiced with street or work wear. I moonlight in security and occasionally get access to an open gym and have been practicing some of the defences, attacks with my tactical boots on. I’ve been surprised how and it makes a big difference for some movements that feel totally natural in gi and barefoot. Add a bit of heel and weight to your feet, pants instead of shorts and unless you’re practicing with them on, it can feel totally different from the dojo.

    I like your channel. With all due respect, I think the snatch/high single, Russian tie, and underhook (if set up correctly) are the most effective against larger opponents. You actually did a video in the best featuring the snatch single on how to take down bigger guys. Danaher also hails it as the king of self defense take downs. Cain Velasquez took down a much bigger opponents using the high single too.
    Given that you’re doing a series, can you please include a video on the use of the *underhook against bigger opponents*? I’ve had some good success with using it on guys 50+ lbs heavier than me as long as I put my weight into it and get a good angle.

      I agree. Verbiage starts to play a big role here. Effective can be translated in many ways, one of them being “scenario versatility” meaning it can be used in just about any scenario against any size opponent. I will say though, there’s no takedown more “effortless” than the boot scoot. The opponent literally falls to the ground for you (if you hit it correctly). It just can’t be used in mma or self defense so that is what makes it less “effective” than the snatch single. Even the slide-by isn’t this effortless as many times you end up standing behind your opponent, but still have to get them to the ground. I will definitely feature some underhook and Russian tie stuff in the future. I touched on the underhook briefly in my hand fighting video, but will elaborate once I cover the curriculum I have planned. Thanks for watching and thank you for the dialogue 🙏🏻

      I most certainly agree! I wrestled for 12 years in folk style and freestyle. From elementary through college and ALWAYS against bigger guys…..I found that it helped when I wrestled against guys my size.

    Works if you know what you are doing but when the big guy knows as well and its a real fight its when this becomes really tested.
    People underestimate brute strength which is the ultimate fight winner if you have all else dialed in.

    I was 175lbs 6'2 choked out a guy 6'3 315lbs at work. He apologized for trying to bully me and brought me 6 pack beer in 2014. Now I'm 6'2 270lbs. Never had any wrestling experience even though I love the art

      @@WrestlingUniversity i just am curious as i did samurai bujutsu for 15 years with 4 schools in different states as i moved etc. i then moved to the mountains for 10 years solo training in samurai armor on horseback. archery in armor in the mountains. which samurai bujutsu is 18 martial arts. so any samurai school that is not just kenjutsu or battojutsu etc. they study 18 arts. all grappling. throws. strikes. but also sword. spear. horsemanship. geography. weather. etc etc. but now we all do tactical training. guns. weapons. in gas masks etc etc. so it is fun to watch other stuff. i watch sensei seth as he visits so many schools. as every art is good. they can work. they do work. if the time is put in. just me watching this that is what i asked myself. so i look forward to seeing that. or the attacker who is bigger has a knife. which one can use a sharpie and white shirts to see how many times one will get cut. we all know that we all practice moves. skills. techniques but most go out the window once combat goes. you might start this move then it dont work then you get in another situation etc. or what do you do if a bigger guy is attacking. but he has 2 friends about 5 seconds away from joining it. as i always tell people. in a multiple attacker situation. never ever go down. dont ever grapple. never go to the ground. if you go down. get up as fast as you can. get out of the clench. never grapple when there is 2 vs 1 or 3 vs 1. etc. it has to be a striking game. and i am sure you know this. nice talking to you bro.

Even if you're super fast at a single or double don't risk the front headlock to guillotine from a stronger guy,,, it's no fun if you get caught..!! Stay on that back no matter what..!!
