he wrote this song for a buddy of his how had fallen in love with a girl that was adicted to meth and inevitably she passed a way from overdose its a very deep song
A friend of mine played this at his sisters funeral. This song couldn’t be more true about her life. Every. Word. I was in tears as older church people sat around me maybe not realizing how severe the drug epidemic really is. Sitting amongst an older generation of people that are fading out and also the younger generation of those who see drugs as a way of life...That poor girl. She was meant to be a star...she was meant to be so much more. RIP Justine 1/15/20
This song hits home in a surreal way. Whiskey Myers is from a town here in East Texas and the strip club Time Out is a very real place on highway 155 in Tyler, Texas that i pass everytime i go to my father’s house. East Texas also has somewhat of a meth problem, so while i don’t know for sure if this song is a true story, it most definitely comes from a real place. Glad you guys covered this one.
Texas and Kentucky have some of the realest country out there..powerful stuff. Especially to those that have struggled with or have known someone who has battled addiction. Love that you guys are open to all types of music.
Awww you did it!!! This is based on real events in his life. Everyone has that person they think of when this song comes on. Beautiful and too real. Thank you for making my night!
He said it’s not based on anything specific , that he is just basing it on the fact that there are a lot of problems with meth in the area where he is from and it’s sad. Which is true. Palestine, TX is full of meth.
It’s such a depressing, tragic song. It’s beautiful and it really hits me hard sometimes. I’ve lost several friends to drinking and drugs and meth has ravaged my hometown so it really hits home.

I'm so sorry Mama, My Uncle could be half owner of a very prominent plumbing company in Georgia and my Mama is doing 10 years to the door. All for Meth.
For 2 people that are listening to this song for this first time with no back story, you have an amazing understanding of this song and its lyrics. I have always felt that it's written from the viewpoint of someone who has been in love with a woman his entire life that has never loved him back the same way and never loved herself. I used to work in a County jail with female inmates. At night, after lockdown, I would play this and some other music loud enough for them to hear in their cells. I felt it brought some humanity to a rather inhumane situation. I didn't play this song for any other reason than it was on my playlist of favorites. Surprisingly, this song actually sparked a lot of really good and really deep conversations between me and the inmates. I remember one young lady in particular who was only about 22 and pregnant. She was getting released soon and due to have her baby shortly after. She said that the song reminded her of her and her boyfriend who was also locked up. She said, through tears, that it gave her inspiration to get out and never touch another drug again. She said it reminded her that she was always going to have to focus on her baby and staying clean. It was a real tear-jerking moment for me. For anyone that's wondering, I'd been doing that job for 11 years at that point. I'm a guy, a former Marine, a war Vet, and I once got hit by a car and dislocated my knee without crying. I put my knee back into joint without crying. I don't cry. That moment almost had me crying. Dammit Whiskey Myers......

Thank you so much for reviewing Whiskey Myers, and in particular this song. As an individual who has lived his entire life in a rural area, let me just tell you that for those of us lucky enough to avoid serious addiction, there is nothing harder than watching people we know and care about deteriorate, especially with meth addiction. Every outward thing about them changes, from the way they look to the way they act. They are no longer themselves on the outside. Which means that most people abandon them, especially if they have no understanding of addiction. "It's his/her choice" is the common refrain, which is exactly why music was the best art farm to address this situation. Apparently this song was inspired by real life events from the band/singer's hometown in Texas. The story itself sounds like the story of so many people (not that all these people died, but the the deterioration was visible). It's an absolute gut punch. Thanks again!

Cody Jinks got you guys to Whiskey Myers, and I know you guys are looking for more Jinks. It’s been said before by many and I’ll say it again, Cody Jinks - David for another great piece of writing!
I think that “cast no stones” would be a wonderful review. I saw him 22 times in 2017 and that’s not including the years before from when he was bartending at the White Elephant or just 2 days ago when he sold out the first of 2 nights at the Magestic. Cody is the best of the best, Ryan Bingham as well
Turnpike Troubadours: Good Lord Lorrie or Gin smoke and lies or Before the Devil knows we're dead Red dirt music is Da Best 🖤 But seriously yall gotta do Turnpike Troubadours 🎶🖤
That was a fun watch!!!! To see you both on the edge of your seats listening intently for the rest of the story is the reaction every lyricist dreams of ❤
I gotta comment again. I love this song. To me this is a conversation he is having with this girl after she's died. The way you would when you visit a grave. She's at peace now and he feels he can share things with her that he couldn't while she was living. And by having this conversation and sharing these things like how it was watching her hurt herself and seeing her being in pain for her whole life, which was also painful for him, he is able to get closure and heal himself by talking it out with her. I love it. It's so intimate.
I can relate to this song though. Went through it with my cousin for about 10 years. And this songs paints a pretty accurate picture about what it's like to know someone before they go through an addiction to hard drugs (specifically crystal meth, in her case). It's rough knowing there's nothing you can do to bring the old them back. Luckily, she's making a recovery though. She'll be 90 days sober this month and she's starting to get her character back.
Prayers for your cousin, hopefully she will be able to beat her addiction. My brother has been an addict for his entire adult life and he is 44 now and still on a destructive path. Having lost a couple of friends and an ex husband to this lifestyle, I know how painful it is to watch someone you love ruin their life. It is gut-wrenching. I wish your cousin all the love and luck in the world. Be strong in supporting her, it makes all the difference in the world when someone has a family who is in their corner....even if it's supporting through "tough love," which is at times the only way to help. God bless you and your family.
I know I'm a year late on this but just learned of this recently. Tears flow everytime I've listened to this song because I'm in the position of the singers friend once was. Great channel you guys have. Appreciate the video.
Love that you guys are so honest! Whiskey Myers is great.. Y'all have opened the minds of so many that never gave country a try! My suggestion to try is Ward Davis.. 15 years in a 10 year town
I’ve been listening to whiskey Myers since 2016 and this is the first song my sister showed me. I’m so glad y’all broke this song down and get the true meaning. They are story tellers. There songs have so much meaning. Listen to Dogwood by them!!! I love them so much! I saw them in Buda, TX March 1, 2019. And I cried because I was so happy!
Screamed when I saw this! One of my all time favorite country songs! Glad you reviewed this one, another suggestion would be In My Arms Instead by Randy Rogers Band.
This is one of my favourite songs, love that you reacted to it and understood it so well. It is probably one of the deepest songs I know but still so beautiful. And you two seems like such nice fella’s as well would have loved to talked to you once.
That Plot Twist at 6:41 I didn't see that coming and said the same thing as George - "Damn". If I must say the way the story was told within the lyrics was really good as if I was actually imagining those words verbatim as it was being sung. The feeling of the song had me in one of those driving through the country in my truck vibe. Big ups to Whiskey Myers for the track also good looks on this good ol country guys.
Just saw them live for the 1st time a couple weeks ago. I've seen a lot of great acts live and they are by far the best live band I've ever heard. If you've never seen them in concert you owe it to yourself to. You won't regret it and it will be one of the best experiences of your life. It's the closest thing to seeing someone like Lynyrd Skynyrd or The Allman Brothers live in their prime. I took my Uncle who saw Skynyd live in 1976 and The Allman Brothers around the same time and he teared up at 1 point because he said it took him back
I've watched this happen to too many people around me. I've listened to this song hundreds of times, and still can hardly make it through it without tears in my eyes.
I love the song , love the harmonica, love whiskey Myers, and the story is so true to what happens with life failures and addiction. I liked you honest reviews of the song as well. I never get tired of this song.
The voice & style reminded me of Cross Canadian Ragweed. Never heard of Whiskey Myers before, but I would bet money they are from Texas or Louisiana. Wasn't a fan of this song but seems like a band I may like. Definitely looking them up now. Thanks for this.

I love seeing you guys go from focusing on the music to almost completely ignoring it to listen to the lyrics. This is one of my favorite songs, I searched it up just to listen to it, not knowing you had done a reaction video and just had to see your feelings. Just fantastic songwriting on this. We can all relate to it in some way.
I watched this reaction several years ago, since then I have watched hours upon hours upon hours of y'all's reactions. Y'all are great. But after rewatching this one it seemed to me that you felt this song Ryan. Can see it in your face and body expressions.
Chills all through my buddy the entire video, absolutely my favorite song of all time, something about the instrumental, the voice and the damned story is just so perfect
Just to let you know they're one of the bands that always sounds even better live or acoustic, like Chris Stapleton. Some of their other songs sound better but don't have quite as good stories. Stone, Reckoning, and Virginia are some good ones
You know, I’ve listened to this song dozens of times, driving back and forth to work and what not, just jamming out on my commute. I’ve always heard the lyrics and pictured the story but never really thought about how deep this is until I watched this before I went to work this morning, and it was all I could think about on the way in this morning. Then I got to thinking about how tangible this is in small town, rural America. They’re a lot of small, quite hick towns around that have serious issues that most don’t see, that get over looked. I have a buddy on the local volunteer fire department a couple towns over and got to thinking about this song and the stories he tells about all the OD calls they’ve been getting lately. Heroine is a major problem here. There’s people I’ve met randomly at places that you see in obituaries a few weeks later that died from their vices. Now every time I hear this song, I’m going to look at it completely differently, but it’s good thing though. Keeps you on your toes as to how you view people you see and meet. You never know their situation, and sometimes those closest don’t know until it’s too late.
Please try the Turnpike troubadors!! Alot like this. I Like "The Funeral" or "The Bird Hunters." Some of the best lyricism and song writing it the genre.
I was surprised to see y'all had done this . I'm sitting here crying cause something good finally came out of this goddamned town that I crashlanded in 7 months ago, my hometown, Palestine TX. These guys are from around where I grew up and it's really cool to see them get the recognition they deserve. As far as the story it's all to common to have someone you love and care for tremendously fall victim to the pitfalls of substance abuse. I personally crushed on a girl in school that later went on to have a hard time with the evil that is methamphetamine and it pained me to see her suffer from a far. She has recovered and is living a respectable existence now but many don't put themselves back from the brink. Life is precious and this song is a retelling of a way in which we can lose sight of that. Peace y'all. Keep it up.
New fan to Whiskey Myers here. I like them. I am still trying to place their sound. Somewhere between Tom Petty, Bon Jovi, little of this little of that. I like them. I can thank the LIV family for bringing me them and appreciate you all. Much love everyone 💓
You're right guys: the story of this song progresses from another country song to an inexorable descent into heartbreak and tragedy. The pathos it evokes is massive...ponderous.

I just found your channel and I'm so glad you did this song. This hits home for me. It's such a sad song and gets me every time ! I saw them live a few months ago and they put on a hell of a show!
Starting to get into that real country. Y'all gotta do turnpike troubadours next. gin, somke, lies is a great one.
Before the Devil Knows We're Dead
Cody Jinks got you guys to Whiskey Myers, and I know you guys are looking for more Jinks. It’s been said before by many and I’ll say it again, Cody Jinks - David for another great piece of writing!
Need to see them listen to Hippies & Cowboys!!
David or Head Case by Cody has my vote.
I think that “cast no stones” would be a wonderful review. I saw him 22 times in 2017 and that’s not including the years before from when he was bartending at the White Elephant or just 2 days ago when he sold out the first of 2 nights at the Magestic. Cody is the best of the best, Ryan Bingham as well
The first time I heard that song I just stopped what I was doing and let the lyrics set in
Turnpike Troubadours: Good Lord Lorrie or Gin smoke and lies or Before the Devil knows we're dead
Red dirt music is Da Best 🖤
But seriously yall gotta do Turnpike Troubadours 🎶🖤
That was a fun watch!!!! To see you both on the edge of your seats listening intently for the rest of the story is the reaction every lyricist dreams of ❤
Turnpike troubadours-good lord lorrie
Turnpike Troubadours deserve more recognition for sure. Bird hunters is also great.
Both great songs, but gin smoke and lies is my favorite
Down here is really good too
I gotta comment again.
This song is very refreshing compared to most country nowadays. Never heard this until now, it's going on my playlist for sure. Good choice!
All of their albums should go on your playlist!
Love that you guys are so honest! Whiskey Myers is great.. Y'all have opened the minds of so many that never gave country a try! My suggestion to try is Ward Davis.. 15 years in a 10 year town
Ballad of a southern man by them is another good one
My favorite one by my cousin cody cannon
I’ve been listening to whiskey Myers since 2016 and this is the first song my sister showed me. I’m so glad y’all broke this song down and get the true meaning. They are story tellers. There songs have so much meaning. Listen to Dogwood by them!!! I love them so much! I saw them in Buda, TX March 1, 2019. And I cried because I was so happy!
Turnpike Troubadours- Before the Devil Knows we’re dead
Do it please
Screamed when I saw this! One of my all time favorite country songs! Glad you reviewed this one, another suggestion would be In My Arms Instead by Randy Rogers Band.
Tyler childs - nose to the grindstone.
Nate Baker David by Cody Jinks has a great gut wrenching story also.
YES YES YES I’m so glad y’all did this song! They are my favorite band on this PLANET!❤️
Vince Gill-go rest high on that mountain . Please
I havent heard that song is so long! Thanks for reminding!
yes
They would seriously love Vince Gill
I love that song. That was for his brother.
From an east Texan glad I raised a family in central Texas. Good tune
Gotta hit some Blackberry Smoke!!!! C'mon guys!
I took my Uncle who saw Skynyd live in 1976 and The Allman Brothers around the same time and he teared up at 1 point because he said it took him back
"Ain't much left of me" would be amazing!!!!
Hell yes! 🍻
Tommy Pearia Agree. BBS. I’ve seen them 4 times this year alone. Great band!!👍
Up in Smoke or Restless
I've watched this happen to too many people around me. I've listened to this song hundreds of times, and still can hardly make it through it without tears in my eyes.
Turnpike Troubadours- Good Lord Lorrie!
You guys killed this review! Hearts dropped when you reached her passing. This is country music. Love you guys
A beautifully sad song about addiction Whiskey Myers are true country
I love the song , love the harmonica, love whiskey Myers, and the story is so true to what happens with life failures and addiction. I liked you honest reviews of the song as well. I never get tired of this song.
The voice & style reminded me of Cross Canadian Ragweed. Never heard of Whiskey Myers before, but I would bet money they are from Texas or Louisiana. Wasn't a fan of this song but seems like a band I may like. Definitely looking them up now. Thanks for this.
Glue Guns & Roses you’re spot on! They’re from East Texas and very similar to Cross.
good call. very similar to CCRW.
@@juliehlozek3845 when I looked them up I found out they were from Texas and being an east Texas girl myself I was embarrassed I had not heard of them!
My favorite of theirs is one of their first songs, Lonely East Texas Nights.
Cross Canadian ragweed!! Sick and Tired
Man...I've binged watched y'all's vids for the last hour after finding your Stapleton reactions. Then I see y'all went and did one of my current favorites in this song. SUBSCRIBED.
I'm so excited y'all reacted to this. This is a beautiful sad song to country lovers.
TheSharplydressed111 listen to reckoning by whiskey myers
Glad yall finally reviewed a song by them. They have so many good ones you may have to touch back on them again on one of their more upbeat songs but this one along with many others really make you think.
Colter Wall - Sasketchewan in 1881
I second that... Anything from Colter would be great
That’s that gooooooood stuff
His voice ! Wow. Sure doesn't seem like it is from a 23 year old. Far more seasoned than his years for sure.
Or Bald Butte
Kate mccannon!!!
Y’all are my favorite reaction guys. I watch all your country reactions and it’s obvious you guys appreciate all sorts of good music and the different angles y’all take make me think about songs meanings at a more in depth level. Thanks guys, keep it up
I was one of the ones requesting this song. Like somebody else said, it's a gut punch song but for me this song has a special place. I'll leave it at that. Thank yall so much for doing this! Yall have no idea.
I feel ya man I live in the blue ridge mountains and I don't know one person that doesn't do shit.
Keep the wolves away_ uncle lucius
I watched this reaction several years ago, since then I have watched hours upon hours upon hours of y'all's reactions. Y'all are great. But after rewatching this one it seemed to me that you felt this song Ryan. Can see it in your face and body expressions.
Whiskey Myers is the name of the band, it’s not the lead singers name. His name is Cody Cannon
I appreciate yalls honest reaction to the song, very good observation and spot on. Please keep it up guys!!!
LOVE THIS BAND!
Chills all through my buddy the entire video, absolutely my favorite song of all time, something about the instrumental, the voice and the damned story is just so perfect
It's interesting living 30 minutes from their home town and knowing every reference.
AJ- Strike its great im from the same town its its cool knowing what there singing about
I was lucky to catch Whiskey Meyers with Halestorm and ShineDown a couple of years ago. They are fantastic live.
I was just thinking "Ooh! It's Friday. Lost in Vegas will have new videos up!" Ya'll did not disappoint. Love me some Whiskey Myers!
Really enjoyed seeing you guys appreciate this song-
Just to let you know they're one of the bands that always sounds even better live or acoustic, like Chris Stapleton. Some of their other songs sound better but don't have quite as good stories. Stone, Reckoning, and Virginia are some good ones
I EXPECTED a negative reaction when I clicked, wow nice surprise. One of my favorites.
Love this song and Ballad of a Southern Man
You know, I’ve listened to this song dozens of times, driving back and forth to work and what not, just jamming out on my commute.
Hgb🎉😊bui
Please try the Turnpike troubadors!! Alot like this. I Like "The Funeral" or "The Bird Hunters." Some of the best lyricism and song writing it the genre.
Yes!!! I keep pushing both of these songs
I was surprised to see y'all had done this . I'm sitting here crying cause something good finally came out of this goddamned town that I crashlanded in 7 months ago, my hometown, Palestine TX. I only recently heard Whiskey Meyer's. Those guys threw it down on that . Love y'alls reviews ...eapecially when y'all did Zep's When The Levee Breaks
"7&7" Turnpike Troubadours. This is yaws chance fellas; get a taste of Texas while you can.
RD well Turnpike is from Oklahoma, but I get what your saying lol.
@@jakeriley1190 Yeah I'm from Texoma, so sometimes I inadvertently claim Oklahoma's spoils. Funny how it's only the good shit! But you trust me, They get it back! Choctaw is a stones throw away from here.
RD I got ya. I’m in north Texas now but originally from Oklahoma so I take some pride in okie products!! If you want another good Okie band, take a listen to The Read Southall Band. I grew up with bass player. They are damn good.
Zach Bryan is a upcoming Oklahoma boy as well y'all should check him out
Love that song man one of my favorites!!
Keep it up.
Also, behind Whiskey Myers, Turnpike Troubadours are one of my most listened to country artists and I would love if you gave them a shot!
Dude on the rights reaction at 7:05 when the song picks up again is the same reaction I had when I first heard this song. Awesome tune.
New fan to Whiskey Myers here. I like them. I am still trying to place their sound. Somewhere between Tom Petty, Bon Jovi, little of this little of that. I like them. I can thank the LIV family for bringing me them and appreciate you all. Much love everyone 💓
Jennifer Delp if you really want to know it’s directly inspired by lynard skynard
Yep lynyrd skynyrd is exactly right
I can definitely hear Skynard. He sounds a little like Tom Petty? Regardless. Love it. Thanks guys!
I describe them as a modern blend of Lynyrd Skynyrd and the Black Crowes. One of my favorite groups.
Y'all doing more for country music than all of radio combined. Keep up the good work, respect
Please react to Alabama - Angels among us and Mountain Music. Thanks
You're right guys: the story of this song progresses from another country song to an inexorable descent into heartbreak and tragedy. The pathos it evokes is massive...ponderous.
Damn y'all have some fire ass reviews. I love how educated y'all are in music and I like that y'all will truelly listen to different genres. Don't change a thing guys y'all are doing a fantastic job. BTW Dogwood is a great upbeat song by Whiskey Myers, I think y'all will like it.
Good song definitely almost a tear jerker. You can hear the pain in his voice.
