  • Whether you’re recovering from a workout or an injury, the new Asics Gel Kayano 30 delivers the right amount of support for a fast recovery. It’s subtle enough for the neutral runner, yet highly supportive for those who need it. It's been my go-to shoe in the rotation as I’ve been recovering from runner's knee. And it’s one of the reasons I've been able to get back on the road quickly. I plan to keep wearing them even after my knee is completely better because it’s really helped my gait. Give the Kayano 30s a try when you’re looking for a little help to get you to your next run.

    I do my slow recovery runs in NB860's (stability). Works really good for me even when i'm a neutral shoe user for all other workouts.

    • @writeorrun
      @writeorrun  9 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Yes to me that makes a lot of sense. Having that little bit of stability, as long as it doesn’t affect your stride, seems like a no brainer to me.

    The Kayano looks really good but, as a mid to forefoot striker, I'm wary about dragging that huge heel around for no reason. I do like that a lot of brands are using more natural means to achieve stability. Currently, I run mostly in the Nimbus, which is a very stable neutral shoe.

    • @writeorrun
      @writeorrun  10 หลายเดือนก่อน +3

      I prefer the looks of the Kayano 30 just slightly over the Nimbus 25. But it definitely doesn't roll through the stride as well as a neutral shoe, particularly if you're a heel striker like me. That huge stack of foam under the heel does looks massive onscreen. I definitely plan to try out the Nimbus 25 in the future as I've heard a lot of good things about it.

    is GK 30 better than GK 29 in terms of arch support. Because i am a excessive pronator and felt no benefit with an so-called arch supporter of another shoe manufacturer, and having trouble to settle btw those two? thanks

    • @writeorrun
      @writeorrun  2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I have not tried the 29s. From what I understand they redesigned the arch support in the 30s, which is the first version I tried. I didn’t realize I needed the support and to me, as I’ve heard many others say, it feels subtle, but effective. That’s why I feel like can use them regularly for recovery runs. In your case it may not be enough. But if you have the chance, maybe you can test them out first before you buy. The 31s are coming out soon but it looks like they didn’t change the midsole except for its outer appearance. Sorry I couldn’t be more helpful.

    What walking/running shoe great for underpronator? This Kauano series are for overpronator right?
    My shoes outsole always faded on the righter part and lefter part of the sole

    • @writeorrun
      @writeorrun  2 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      That’s difficult for me to say. I’m a lot of places I read that neutral shoes work well because there isn’t extra support on the inner side do the foot. If I were you I’d try that or a stability shoe that really locks in the heel. But I think I’d try something out in the store first. I still wear out the outer edge of my shoes first, too. It depends on how excessive it is. I’m sorry I can’t be more help on that. I just noticed that the mild stability helped my knees feel better and my feet. The wear pattern didn’t change as much

    Can anyone help me out here. I hear heel striker, fore front striker etc... How would I find out how I run? I think that I am a heel striker but not sure. Thank you!

    • @writeorrun
      @writeorrun  4 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      It will be the part of your foot that hits the ground first. Sometimes you can tell based on the wear pattern of your sole. I tend to be a heel striker so I notice that the rubber on the heel of the shoe looks more worn out compared to the rest of the sole. If you’re a mid or forefoot striker I think the pattern will look even across the entire bottom. If you’re still not certain you can get a gait analysis at a shoe store and they’ll tell you exactly what kind of runner you are. Anyone else have any tips to figure it out, please don’t hesitate to respond. I hope this helps!

    Trying running without socks. I have ran without socks for years and have never any issues with blisters, excusive calluses etc.. You may need to slowly transition to no sock running to toughen your skin in friction areas.

    • @writeorrun
      @writeorrun  4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I have gotten that advice before. I'm sure the sock liners aren't a problem, but I do wonder about getting any irritation from parts of the upper. Maybe I'll give it a go once it starts to get consistently warm.

      Thanks for your question! I’m not quite sure, however. I have over 100 miles on them now and they still seem great. The outsole will probably take me to 300 miles based on the current wear pattern. I don’t think the midsole will degrade so much faster that I couldn’t wear it until then. That’s the best guess I can give you right now. I will update you as I get to another milestone like 200 miles. I hope that helps.

    What about for suppinators?

    • @writeorrun
      @writeorrun  4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Honestly, I don’t know. Support shoes always seem to focus on overpronating. I would look into shoes that use a guide rail system, the ones that use higher sidewalls along both the inner and outer edges of the heel. That would seem to help either scenario. I wish I had a better answer for you.

      I think this navy blue color way is the best one. The only one I think is slightly better is the 30th anniversary edition, which is white with dark blue/gold accents. It costs a little more, which is why I chose the one in my video.

    • @writeorrun
      @writeorrun  7 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Hi there! I would definitely recommend trying these. It has a lot of foam underfoot and the added stability may be just what you need. I would still get your gait analyzed if possible to be sure you don’t need a lot of stability because this definitely doesn’t feel heavy handed. These are very comfortable to wear for extended periods of time. One other thing to consider, my feet are on the narrower side so if you do tend to need more room in the toe box, they offer a wide option, too. Good luck and let me know how it goes!

      @@writeorrun I went to try them on in the store today, and unfortunately they weren't suitable for my feet. Because they felt too narrow on the forefoot, with little room for the toes.With little support under the arch of the foot, and a little long behind the heel, which did not fit well into its shell. So, I'll wait until the new year to try the Mizuno Inspire 19. Which were not available in store.

I’m planning to review more stability shoes in the new year so maybe I’ll be able to help you out if you’re still looking at that time. I’m not familiar with Mizuno shoes but I hear a lot of people like the stability options (and wide sizes) that New Balance offer. That could be another choice if the Mizuno doesn’t work out.
