    I am happy for you that the "hot spots" problem is resolved in this newer version. I believe the reason I didn't have that problem is that I am a slow runner, so my foot never moved around with enough friction to cause a hot spot. It's just you "speedsters" who suffered. I'm glad it's better for you. Thanks again for your review. I will go to Columbus Circle Tuesday to buy two pair - one for NYC marathon training, and a second pair to break in later to wear in the actual NYC Marathon.

    Bill, thank you for this review. I am sitting here wearing Asics Gel Kayano 30's and already had a note on my calendar to go to the running store in NYC's Columbus Circle to buy some Kayano 31's next Tuesday morning - so your review is VERY timely. I am a slow runner and love the Gel kayanos, as you and I have discussed in the past - so a shoe that is suitable for long distance easy-on-the legs miles is perfect for me. In the unlikely event I ever get fast enough to contend for the 74-year-old women's marathon record, I will look for another shoe! LOL. Meanwhile, this Gel Kayano is my shoe and I greatly appreciate your review.

      Glad they're working out for you. As for the track, they won't be the fastest or lightest option, and the stack height may be a little much, but give 'em a try and let me know how they do

    Hi, Bill - I did buy a pair of Asics Gel Kayano 31, as I told you earlier that I would. You are so right!!! They are fabulous!! I love them! Immediately after I bought them at the running store in Columbus Circle in Manhattan, I went over to New York Road Runners' "RunCenter" on 57th Street - I locked my old Asics Gel Kayano 30's in a NYRR locker, put on the new shoes, and trotted two blocks north for a short run in Central Park. Glorious! I mean glorious for both the shoes and Central Park!!! I will use these news shoes for a week or so - then if all goes well, I will buy a second pair for the New York City Marathon in November. Thank you for the recommendation.

      @@oldmanvanrunning Bill, thank you for your reply. I'm glad you have no issues, after you had "hot spot" issues in previous versions. My only "issue" is that I was too lazy to do 15 whole miles today like you did!

  • @andyn6053
    @andyn6053 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

    I have the same problem with Kayano 30. Size 44.5 fits perfect but there's some rubber material used to reinforce the front of the mesh in the forefoot that rubbed against my big toe and created friction. I sized up 1/2 size to size 45 but then I had to tie the laces really hard since the shoe was little too roomy and big (I have the wide version). Thus It felt like I cut off the blood transportation to my feet. Considering trying to return them since I only used them indoors soo far. Also found the Kayano 30 too be very clunky and sluggish to run with, not as all like the Kayano 28 which I loved.

    • @oldmanvanrunning
      @oldmanvanrunning  หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @andyn6053 I also enjoyed the 28. This version is great so far! Took it out for fifteen miles today, and not a single hot spot or any other issue. Great update!

    • @andyn6053
      @andyn6053 16 ชั่วโมงที่ผ่านมา

      @@oldmanvanrunning I finally realized what the problem was. The Kayano 30 was in wide fit, so they were too roomy, forcing me to lace my shoes really hard. I tried the Kayano 31 in normal width and they felt great. It seems the 31 have a slimmer internal reinforcement area in the toebox, not rubbing against my toes as in the 30. The 30´s are half the prize on sale so I´m not sure if I should get the 30´s in normal width or just go with the 31´s in normal. After running with both versions, would u buy the 30 on sale or pay full price for the 31´s?

    I bought the wide version just for walking and because there's very limited selections for wide feet here. I love this shoes because of the silhouette and they ditched the hard plastic trusstic tech. I think it's leaps and bounds above the previous versions. And the stack height is so high, they actually make me taller about 3-4 cm.
    Note: I wonder why all running shoes companies suddenly have very similar designs. Asics, HOKA and Adidas have new releases that are practically indistinguishable if not for the huge brands slapped on the sides.

      Thanks for checking in! 👍 Glad they're working out for you!
      As for your observation, there definitely is a push towards higher stack max-cushioned shoes with less pronounced stability features. My guess is it's due to shoe companies following the market trends (what seems to be selling).

    Similar problem in nimbus 26 - seems that toebox reinforcement sometimes rub on side of my forefoot, use it only for recovery 1h runs and it's not very bad but long runs in it won't be good idea
    Bigger problem though is upper is very hot, is winter here in Au now so all good for now but in summer this shoe won't get any use....
    Apart of upper problems I really like it - my first nimbus- hope they make upper more breathable and thiner - if they do nimbus could be my best of recovery slow plodder

    • @oldmanvanrunning
      @oldmanvanrunning  หลายเดือนก่อน

      Sad to hear it's also an issue in the Nimbus. ASICS should hopefully update the upper in the 27 as they did in the Gel-Kayano 31.

    Great review! Went for 13 miles in my novablasts last weekend and my feet were starting to hurt by the end. Thinking I may need to incorporate a max cushion shoe for my long runs. These look good! Also, beautiful spot for a run. Where abouts was that?

    Hello, thank you for your review . I am a slow runner and training for my first half marathon, planning to run 2:00 hours or a bit less. Are these shoes suitable for the race day ? Looking for stability since having over pronation

    • @oldmanvanrunning
      @oldmanvanrunning  หลายเดือนก่อน

      Thanks for the question! 👍 These aren't the lightest option, but would be fine if the goal is just to finish. There are other options out there, such as the ASICS Superblast 2 (very pricey, though) oer the Saucony Tempus, which lighter and more responsive.

    Good stuff! What are your thoughts on sizing? I usually wear a size 12, in the superblast for example but feel sometimes that asics run a hair short for my long thin toes/feet, would you go up to a 12.5 or would the 12 have plenty of length?

    • @oldmanvanrunning
      @oldmanvanrunning  หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Hey Max! Hope all is well, my friend!... Great question. I have enough length, but the Superblast 2 is slightly longer in the toe box than the Gel-Kayano 31. You may want to try it on first. Otherwise, maybe a half-size up....

      @@jt.8144 I visited a specialized running store and the staff there told me that the wide model (2E) actually has the exact same sole as the standard version. Only difference is that the upper is more roomy. If you want a wider shoe (sole), one should go for the extra wide option (4E). I had no clue about this before. The good thing with Kayano is that it´s actually quite wide from the get go so most people with wide feet will fit good in the normal width Kayanos.
