  • Longines are very strong these years where the legendary Swiss company both introduce remakes from their extensive catalogue and introduce strong entry-level luxury modern watches. In this video I compare and showcase two very strong modern offerings in the Spirit and ceramic Hydroconquest.

Thanks for this comparison/review. I was just looking at the new hydroconquest today. They are stunning pieces. Might be my next diver. 👌

I’ve had the Spirit for a few weeks, also in blue. The quality and longevity of the line cannot be overstated. It literally lasts all night. When I wake up during the night, it is always clearly legible. I generally get up in the mornings just before dawn, and the watch is still clearly legible.

I feel like Longines is slowly maneuvering into position as the Tudor of the Swatch group, specialising in heritage models with in-house (ish) movements at a great price. The Longines L888.4 and Tudor MT5402 movements even have similar specifications.

Hi Blodmangel. I agree. In one of my videos I said Longines are moving closer to Omega within the Swatch Group. So they are also moving closer to Tudor territory.
      Best regards,
      Anders

@@TimeAndCrown I think they made Rado pale in comparison. The captain cook is way overpriced compared to the heritage diver or just the simple hydroconquest

Great review as these are the two watches I'm looking at purchasing but will only buy one. Slightly leading towards the Hydroconquest even though I'm not a diver. I love the sporty look.

Just bought this same Hydroconquest and cant get enough of it! Spirit apparently is a more quality build but it looked weird on the wrist for casual wear. If i were in aviation this style would probably fit the bomber jacket, for everyday classy manly look Hydro is just perfect !

full agree. Me too I bought a hydroconquest blue bicolor with strap. Has much more appeal and strong character compared to the quite boring face of the Spirit...

Agreed Swatch is positioning Longines as entry level luxury. I just picked up the Blue HydroConquest and considering a heritage edition next.

    • @respectablylate3081

@@oozehag2790 , depends on personal choice. For me, I like a dress diver, so the Hydroconquest would be my choice. If after a dressier/business setting, the Conquest is probably better suited.

I own a 42mm blue dial Spirit, I was fortunate as I was considering buying one and planned to buy online but by chance my local dealer had one massively discounted in its window being ex display. I paid £1300 everything complete and stickers still on. 22mm steel bracelet and I also bought an after market blue leather strap with white stitching which looks better than the Longine issue one IMO. It keeps perfect time and sits on my 8.5" wrist without any adjustment. Only problem I have is deciding what watch to wear as like many of us I have too many now.

Longines Spirit is their take on various IWC Pilots watches, as these IWC all have long lug to lug measurements the Spirit replicates this. Spirit on my 7 inch wrist fits fine, buy on strap for 6.5 wrist, below that perhaps not the watch for you.

Great video and great watches. Agree that you need both in a collection :) I would like to see a side by side comparison from the Longines Pilot with the Hamilton Khaki Field Automatic 38mm. Beside the size and chronometer certification, both watches are very near to each other. And the „pilot“ is for me more a fieldwatch. The HydroConquest is such a great modern diver. I have the black version and enjoy it.

The Spirit has a very beautiful dial. The crown-guards on the HydroConquest look very ungainly and overly brutal.

The lack of micro adjustment on the Spirit and pins instead of screws makes it a difficult buy for me. What do you think of the Oris Big Crown ProPilot as an alternative?

Longines is Def. A hugh leap up in quality and movement wise compared too the oris. I owned a couple of the propilot models and sold them. They use standard base sw200-1 movements

Personal opinion , i own 2 Omegas btw . Both are excellent price/value watches . The Hydroconquest is even much cheaper then the Spirit . But the Hydro got 1 big , huge flaw . Flat glass , and while it might not seem a big thing , it actually is . I would not ever buy a watch with a flat glass , and i guess many others will not also . Also , why is it flat , prob to not go in competition with Omega Seamasters where it would prove some competition there . Since Omega got no pilot watches , the Spirit is the beast , price vs value . But , there is more then Omega , sure , many others around but we are talking companies , and for a pilot watch we are looking at IWC . IMHO the Longines kicks IWC's ass here . Are there better around , yes , but they do not have in house movements , a pricepoint to consider . We are looking at specific watches and a Spirit is the way to go , a Hydro , how ever nice it is , will be less attractive .

Spirit by far, the Hydroconquest just looks way too unbalanced. Both would look so much better with no date, or date at 6.Such a shame manufacturer's don't give us the option of dateless.
