    In this video, I take a look at the Longines HydroConquest, a modern dive watch many of you asked me to review when I released my video taking a look at the standard Longines Conquest. For me, the HydroConquest is one of the best options for a dive watch in the strangely seldom-seen $1.5k price point. Are there any other modern watches from Longines you'd like me to take a look at?

    I love the hydroconquest, it checks a lot of boxes, especially with bracelet quality under $2k, where the older models fell short was with the Lume, unremarkable to say the least, I have yet to see one of the newer modes with the BGW9, but that and the ceramic bezel look like an upgrade worthy of checking them out again. Plus that green dial 🤤

    Wow after some months of deliberation, I finally bought a black 41mm then only a few days later this video comes out!
    I find the HC to be absolutely stunning and I'm so chuffed with it! The rubber strap brings down the weight and makes the longer lugs wear a little smaller imo. Also, fits in nicely with a casual/active persons style that isn't at all out of place when dressed up on occasion, due to its clean appearance and nice clasp.

    • @K.J.H_
      @K.J.H_ ปีที่แล้ว +5

      @@m0xiemarlinspike I don't personally have any problem with them.
      The AD showed me a technique for winding where you kind of favour the index finger below the crown, rubbing it past the crown rather than gripping it fully. More of the crown is protruding at the bottom. So maybe that helped some.

    I have the Blue Dial un 41mm and had the AD watchmaker brush the center link just after I bought it. Love the coin edge bezel, the sunburst, bracelet, clasp, lugs, everything. This watch is amazing. $1500 for a Swiss Ceramic bezel diver on a bracelet. Nothing compares to this, Maybe Mido, Certina or Tissot, but none with exactly the same specs.

    Just swooped a grey one (traded for my Zodiac Super Sea Wolf ZO9210). Came with two nice nato straps, the bracelet, and the grey rubber strap. The guy who traded it to me had the center links professionally brushed to match the rest of the bracelet and it looks fantastic. The high polish that the center links come with from the factory is a little much for a tool watch in my opinion so I welcomed the brushing of the bracelet!

  • @LouisWinthorpe622
    @LouisWinthorpe622 ปีที่แล้ว +22

    I've had mine for 5 years. Just dropped by to see the more recent editions reviewed. For a lot of people, the clasp is a contentious issue, being press-fit rather than having deployment buttons but it is beautifully engineered to a very fine tolerance. It has a, kind of, 'goldilocks' tension while locking (not too hard/ not too weak); very confidence inspiring as it feels very secure.
    Some people find taking it off, to be painful but once you've owned one for a while you may discover 2 nice little hacks that turn opening the clasp into a breeze.
    Instead of using a fingernail under the indentation in the clasp, to open the (I can't remember what it's called) 'safety catch', grab the sides of it with the thumb and forefinger of your other hand, pull, and it opens very easily and painlessly.
    Then, instead of pulling the clasp open with the tip or fingernail of your thumb, slide the index finger of your other hand in between your wrist and the underside of the clasp and just push the centre, milled, 'strut' of the clasp out from between the other two 'struts' (again: '??') between, which, it is held captive by the simple press-fit system.
    If you already have one, try it. It may improve your opinion of the clasp and the watch. If you're thinking of getting one, bear it in mind, as it completely negates any qualms or misgivings that some people may have about it before, or whilst, buying the watch.

    Ive always had a soft spot for Longines going back to the mid seventies when a came across one of their glossy catalogues (what ever happened to them). A gold Longines dress watch is amongst my collection but unfortunately it wears to small for my 8" wrist so my wife has taken it. My son is looking for a watch in the £1500 range so I'll certainly be advising him to give the Hydroconquest consideration. Great review by the way.

On the dial and make the numbers just a tad smaller so it doesn’t overpower the dial ....i love symmetry !!! The other thing would be to bevel the crown guards a bit more to make them a tad smoother. I'm well pleased by my 39mm black dial variant of the HydroConquest. It's a smart looking modern watch from a reputable brand that works well on my 16cm wrist. It retails for $1275 but can be had for under $1000, so I feel comfortable wearing it. Owning it has stopped my urge to get a much more expensive diver.

    I would go with the Oris 65 (non in house movement) in this general price range. This is a decent offering. I don't like the date window integration though.... Maybe a no date would be more attractive.

    I have a 39mm blue dial regular Conquest, and I'm starting to lust after this HydroConquest now. Apart from all the goodness you mentioned Teddy, it comes with one other pro for me - you will look long and hard to see another on someone's wrist. Unlike some other brands' divers, it's not a case of everyone and their dog has one of these

    If only the ETA A31.L11 were widely available... I must say though, that with a few tweaks to the crown guards and crown, this HydroConquest could prove to be a compelling alternative to Doxa. If only Doxa were to be bought by the Swatch Group. Then, you'd have a watch with much better lume!

  • @DaZerker
    @DaZerker 2 ปีที่แล้ว +23

    After spending months trying to find the perfect watch and at the same time trying to rationalize the cost of more notable brands such as Tudor and Omega for their specifications, the Longines Conquest and HydroConquest offers ridiculous value for the specifications offered.
    Double AR sapphire, ceramic bezel, 300m water resistance, 72hr power reserve in a beautiful package that combines elements from many well known models, these watches from Longines are such a steal, its borderline criminal. You would have to pay more for the more popular brands to get similar specifications. Well done Longines!

      @@MrWolf-ln1gi Yes the Tissot Seastar is also great value! Though the Tissot for a little less than Longines, you don't get the double AR coating and only 2 year warranty vs Longines 5 year warranty. Love the see-through caseback on the Tissot though. Might boil down to design preference in the end.

      @@DaZerker yeah that’s completely fair enough, the Seastar 2000 is also 46mm so it does size people out. Especially if you have anything under 7 inches. But it does have double the WR and has a helium release valve. But that’s more catered to those who go diving frequently and at extreme depths

  • @juniorgallo8786

    It's amazing quality for the price, it hits the nail in the head in some aspects: The arabic font used is similar to the Explorer I, but elongated horizontally with number in 12 o'clock instead of 3 o'clock because of the date window, really nice reference. Also the snowflake design of the hour hand is a thousand times better than the one used by Tudor, more aesthetically appealing. Great watch. I see Longines, Zenith, Cartier, making smart choices and understanding the market in recent times. I would include Breitling if they had more case size options under 42mm for men watches. Merry Christmas!

    • @K.J.H_

      @@K.J.H_ I completely agree on the snowflake! I've been thinking the same. That's how you do a snowflake hour hand, the Tudor snowflake hands are ghastly to look at.

    My blue version 43mm (the blue dial is really stunning, especially in the sunlight) is very accurate , more so than my Oris Aquis which is slightly more expensive. Lovely watch, however, the bracelet is not as good as the one on the Oris though. I bought mine with a 15% discount ! ! Happy days ! !

  • @TeoKefalopoulos

    Excellent review, as always! I'd like to point out that imo the 41mm version that you are reviewing here should be sold with a narrower bracelet (like 20mm lug-to-lug) and maybe a slight tapering to the clasp. I think that the proportions of the 41mm case need a narrower bracelet (the 43mm looks great with the same 21mm bracelet). Also, it seems that they switched to a green(ish) lume lately? My 43mm variant doesn't feature a blue lume...
