Nice to see you again reaction to ABBA songs
"Gimme gimme gimme (a man after midnight)" (1979)
is a song influenced by American disco,
after the success of the Bee Gees and the movie 'Saturday night fever" from the year before
In this song you can see part of the volume and range of voice that the blonde Agnetha has
ABBA was preparing their 1979 Tour of America and Europe,
in the previous one , They recorded this song and filmed the official video
These is an official video in which all ABBA is seen in the recording studio,
including staff musicians (bass, guitarist and drummer)
and sound engineer Michel Tretow at the controls,
creator of the well-known 'ABBA sound' with his innovative 'wall of sound' multiplication technique
(an adaptation of the works of Phill Spector)
    These is a short versión
in last months ABBA did these new official lyric video of "Gimme gimme gimme" full versión
The introduction and the instrumental ending,
that characteristic sound of Benny's keyboards,
is what Madonna used for her worlwide hit
"Hung Up" in 2005, 26 years later...
(with the permission of the composers Björn and Benny,
    granting them share the credits)
Surely for the latter, with more than 390 million views,
the original video with the shorts versión is the second official ABBA video
with the most views on TH-cam
(behind "Dancing Queen", which has more than 730 million views)
and also for this last reason, surely
"Gimme gimme gimme (a man after midnight)"
is much more popular now than in its time
when it was released it was #3 in the UK, it wasn't even released in the US
now also a centerpiece at the new ABBA Voyage concerts in London
Another interesting date is that these is one of songs tgat ABBA recorded in spanish:
"Dame Dame Dame" (1980) and ABBA performed it in an interview to Spanish TV
Thank you again for these video
I hope to see you with more ABBA songs
    One sugestión could be
    "Mamma Mia"
    another iconic song
    My best regards from
    Buenos Aires , Argentina 🇦🇷
    South America

Agree on your observations. When these four individuals coexisted in unison there was a utopic vocal and visual chemistry nowhere else to be found.Unique and TOP NOTCH.Non-replicated.

A clip with 4 people in a room ...but nothing else was really needed ,if these 4some were ABBA!Everything was filled up and felt complete and magical under their seductive aura.

Hunh. I always thought Agnetha was wearing a cap or visor or something. No. She's wearing her headphone band across her upper forehead! 😃 Very casual and endearing, for some reason.

Those voices so emotional and karisma. They really could make great melodies then. Today people are not so good at that. Greatings from a proud swede.

You talked about the mixing console. At the time, Polar Music Studio was the best equpped studio in the world, and Micheal B Tretow knew how to work it.

I might have mentioned it, once or twice (lol), under other reaction videos but you really should have gone for the full version of this song. You guys in North America were short changed by Atlantic Records who opted to cut out over a minute of sublime instrumentation and angelic vocals for the single release over there. Everywhere else in the world got the full song. What makes it worse is that UMG/Vevo chose the short version for the official video. Madness. .They've recently seen the error of their ways by at least using the proper version for the official lyric video. Any time I happen to watch this video, the omission is glaring and the song is over way too early.

Interesting thing about the videos. They made videos to keep themselves in the public eye because they didn’t like to tour. Fortunately for those of us who loved them then as much as now.

Hey... ABBA has hits of different styles... Funny songs, breakup songs. The girls alternate leading vocals in most songs...
    Try... 'Does your mother know'
    'Mamma Mia'
    'The Winner Takes It All'
    "Super Trouper '... etc...
Hope to see you soon, Lulu &John
    Love ❤️ from Chile 🇨🇱👍

Really they are so good in so many different styles. The rhythm of this song for instance in classical music could be described as a "cavalcata"; that is to say a horse ride.

Back then software was on punch cards or huge disk platters. Im afraid the idea of editing on a computer wasnt even a thought in anyone's mind. The apple macintosh wasnt even created until i think 1984.
The phone im typing this on has thousands of times the processing power of the best mainframes at that time, which costed millions of dollars.

Yngwie malmsteen covered this song . Especially, when abba's songs goes full metal mode , it sounds better than original. Just like the mighty m.s.g of music
