"WHO IS THIS WEIRD LADY DANCING IN MY HOUSE? BUT ABBA IS GOOD LET'S GET DOWN" So sorry to hear about your mom. It was so hard to see my grandma go through it.
I'll never understand why ABBA gets so much hate, the vocals are A+ and the music is so creative and impactful. They're an incredible band and anyone who says otherwise is dumb or lying. They have such a good mix of powerhouse emotional songs and fun dance songs.
@@evilqueen6402 I completely disagree. You can tell from any 'casual' listening that they are a class above most standard boy/girl bands. I wish they'd played the extended version; the bass on that is amazing.
Compared to someone like Pink Floyd they aren't exactly deep in the subjects they cover or complex in their composition. But they were excellent at what they do.
Agnetha Faltskog the blonde of ABBA, She has an voice of an angel. And she's one of my favorite female singers of the 1970's and early 80's along with Karen Carpenter.
It's hard to imagine the global phenomenon that was ABBA. They appealed to people in every nation. I remember watching the Eurovision song contest in 1974 and as soon as I heard Waterloo by them, I knew it would win. Completely different to the norm for that contest. From then on, it was etched into history.
Just to let momma know, ABBA composed all of their own music and songs. They also co-engineered, and co-produced all of their own material. Bjorn and Benny absolute genius just like the Bee Gees.
If anyone says they don't like Abba? They're lying. Secretly, they love em. Everyone has a favourite Abba song. I love them all, and G G G is no exception. Abba never allowed their music to be sampled, that is until Madonna approached them with a demo, they listened, approved and so Hung Up was recorded by Madonna. She included the intro/hook you liked so much, and did it great justice. It's very well worth looking into 💜
I hated it that my parents used to pretty much only listen to them non-stop, so I grew to dislike the band, but every now and then I'm walking down a street and one of their tunes comes back to my head, as much as I don't like to admit it, they are a guilty pleasure of mine
I think you have mostly reacted to songs where Agnetha sings lead. To get more of the many sides of the group, a song with Frida singing lead would be good. I suggest "Fernando" or "Knowing Me, Knowing You". Both ladies have amazing voices but as you have commented, it is when they sing together - that's the best. Fans call it the "third voice" because you're right, they do sound like one person. After you hear a Frida lead song, then move on to one of the songs which is all "third voice". That should be "Dancing Queen".
I’d add Rock Me for the Bjørn vocals and The Name of the Game, Andante Andante, I Have A Dream & from the new Voyage album, I Still Have Faith In You & No Doubt About It for Frida on lead vocal. You’ve already done my favourite Agnetha lead, Chiquitita, so I’d add When All Is Said and Done and Don’t Shut Me Down & Keep An Eye On Dan from the new Voyage album & Just A Notion where they all sing a bit of the lead vocals
Just like with Fleetwood Mac and Stevie Nicks, they're fixating on one singer. Frida has an amazing voice as well, or try 'Does Your Mother Know' with a male lead. By the way, still waiting for a Fleetwood Mac song featuring Christine McVie.
The band named after their first name initials. Agnetha, Bjorn, Benny, Anifrid. This song was also sampled years later by Madonna on her song "Hung Up." "Knowing me Knowing you" one of my favourites from them.
Bjorn is the guitar player! The blond lady you're talking about is Agnetha. The dark haired lady is Frida, and the keyboard player is Benny. I'm surprised that as keen fans of the group, you haven't looked them up on wikipedia.
Abba!! Absolute legends. They had nine number ones in the UK between 1974 and 1980!! Try "The Name of the Game" "Knowing Me, Knowing You" "Super Trouper" "Dancing Queen" or the one that began it all "Waterloo". So many more to choose from. Much love from England 🏴
The blond one is Agnetha, she was married to Björn, the guitar player. The red head is Frida, and she was married to Benny, the keyboardplayer. He wrote al the music, Björn wrote all the lyrics
When you've finished with that, move on to "More ABBA Gold". There are not many groups that could bring out two completely different compilations of their 'greatest hits' in successive years and still have managed to leave a number of hits out completely! For information, ABBA Gold and More ABBA Gold between them have 39 hit songs and I can think of several that are missing!
This was the first ABBA song I ever heard when I was a little girl. For the life of me, I couldn't figure out what use they would have for a man after midnight. What could he do after midnight that he couldn't do before? And if he took her through the darkness to the break of day wouldn't she be sleepy? I love this song! It's one of my favorite Abba songs.
Hi guys it’s amazing to see how much they enjoyed doing this song and Amber your expressions say everything about how much you love music I’ve always said you can’t just listen to music you have to experience it
I recently played this song for my boyfriend. He does know ABBA but has not heard all of their songs. He thought it was Madonna at first. He knew Madonna song Hung Up...... was shocked to find out she sampled this ABBA song! I love ABBA!!!! And this is one of my favorite song of theirs! The vocals are always amazing, but the music is phenomenal!!!! That bass line, the exchanges the whole thing!
Does Your Mother Know followed by Hole In Your Soul at Wembley in 1979. Probably their best performance ever. Agnetha hitting that high note...absolutely incredible.
Pure timeless👏👏it's been said that their music is melodicly perfect there's nothing that could be added to make it better ...well time has proven class is timeless 👌🥇
What a very beautiful and powerfull voices , sounds music , harmonies and melodies . Extraordinary , excellent , brilliant , incredible , outstanding , very nice !!! ABBA music forever !!!
ABBA has rarely given permission to sample their music. They made an exception for Madonna, who sampled this song heavily on her song Hung Up. You have been neglecting the Queen of Pop, so maybe you could do Hung Up. It would be fun to compare productions. It’s a fun video too. Cheers guys! 💜 Also, when you return to ABBA again, you should check out their brand new songs from last year - I Still Have Faith in You and Don’t Shut Me Down.
@@BobbyGeneric145 I'm not a massive Madonna fan, but 100% she is known as the Queen of Pop, where have you been living? Who would you say is the Queen of pop and no matter what you say they have never been called it, whereas Madonna has been constantly. She's been around for 40 years or so and been called it non-stop
ABBA's music was always complex and they made it sound so good. You should do a reaction to ABBA's "Dancing Queen", apart from being their biggest hit and being an all time disco classic, it contains complex musical arrangements and pushes the female singers over two octaves...now that's classical pop music.
MAMMA MIA! You have already done four, if not the just the song; I REALLY THINK YOU SHOULD WATCH THE MOVIE, MAMMA MIA! It is so fun! It's a musical but it is all ABBA songs. I didn't even realize that I was an ABBA fan until I saw the movie, so many hits! Plus you can't go wrong with Meryl Streep, Pierce Brosnan and Amanda Seyfried! 😁🥰
They may groan when you put Dancing Queen on the jukebox...but they tapping their feet and singing along when that chorus hits. Winner Takes It All is my favorite ever....Name Of The Game, Knowing Me Knowing You, Money Money Money....so many great songs.
ABBA consists of 2 married couples. I can no longer say who was married to whom, but they were married until the early 80's. ABBA was invited to a German show in the 1970s. They had to cancel after receiving ransom notes threatening their children to be kidnapped. So they made a live broadcast, which was something very special back then. ABBA is as well known in Europe as Michael Jackson is. Just so you have a relationship. And even in Japan ABBA is a big name. I recommend ABBA's songs "The day before you came", "San Fernando" and "Thank you for the music". Warning: you may need a handkerchief.
Frida recorded a solo album in the early eighties which produced a huge hit. It was called, “I Know There’s Something Going On” and Phil Collins was background vocals and drummer. I absolutely love that song.
you know...lot's of times back in the day we used to listen and dance to these songs and sometimes never bothered to think about the lyrics. we just danced and sang along!
I would recommend Waterloo as your next Abba reaction. The blonde is Agnetha; Anni-Frid is the brunette. Bjorn Ulvaeus is the guitarist. BTW, Bjorn translates to "bear" in English.
They could churn out catchy melodies like a production line. I’m a rock/metal fan but everyone but everyone loves ABBA if you scratch beneath the surface.
This is a classic ABBA track. It was used on a sitcom of the same name over here in the UK, which is hilarious. Another great song by these guys is called 'Does Your Mother Know' in which one of the men 'Bjorn' takes the lead vocals
We had a magazine for teenagers in Germany called "Bravo". When I was young they had a poster in parts to collect. All parts set together would have given you a live size poster of your stars. I only collected these parts once. Guess which group was the subject!
If you want look for the full audio version - it has a overly funky instrumental middle part added. This was the hight of the Disco time (think some of the biggest BeeGees songs), and Abba suited it completely
Guys you are great! One of Abba's biggest and best for POWERFUL vocals is "Knowing Me Knowing You" . A massive number one when it came out! "Knowing Me Knowing You!
I just love that you kids are keeping this music alive, and showing it to people that might never ever have heard it if it wasn't for you all. Mother Earth bless you, keep you safe, and doing what you've doing for a long, long time. ❤
Yet another great ABBA song. The multiple keyboards you heard was a synthesizer. A great instrument that could emulate many different keyboard and percussion instruments . This video showed ABBA in the studio , where they were perfectionists in recording and mixing music and vocals. Yet another reason they were so great. I love watching the ladies record together. They seem to be enjoying themselves immensely.
Ya'll should give a go at 'Does Your Mother Know'. The ladies are background and Bjorn, the guy playing the guitar here, he is singing. It's poppin' and definitely makes you want to move with it. And it's got a really good message. One of my favorites from Abba.
Abba were masters of different types of music tracks, recording techniques - i.e in the same way Richard Carpenter utilised the technology and tools of the time to create that extra sound, so did they. You have so much Abba richness still to discover!
Holy Moley! You have done SIX ABBA songs and none of them was "Waterloo". It was the song that put them on the map. It's the song they sang and won the Eurovision song contest with!
When I was a kid, my Dad worked for Maersk Line, the Danish shipping company; this was the 1970's and back then, senior officers could take their families on board. Most of the officers were Scandinavian or British (we're English) and ABBA was EVERYWHERE, so ABBA is basically the soundtrack of my childhood. The second I hear ABBA, I'm right back, travelling on those ships, and Gimme is absolutely peak ABBA.
This was from Abba’s disco album. It features the only track they ever recorded outside of Sweden - in USA, with American session musicians. (Ultimately they weren’t happy with the result and returned home for the rest). The fluty synth hook was sampled by Madonna for her ”Hung Up” - the only time they ever gave the green light for a sample. In terms of sales, Abba are up there with your Beatles and Elvis Presleys. In terms of impact and influence on pop music they are also up there. They were ridiculed by the critics at the time, but these days they are given their due. In the US too, although they only had one number one there, (Dancing Queen). Rock'n'roll Hall of Famers. Required listening: Dancing Queen, The Winner Takes It All, Summer Night City, When All Is Said And Done, Take A Chance On Me, Does Your Mother Know, SOS, Mamma Mia, Slipping Through My Fingers, The Visitors, Head Over Heels, Waterloo, One Of Us, Super Trouper. For starters.
The Beatles comparisons is overblown. Truth is Ringo Starr, as a solo artist, had twice the number of top 10 hits as Abba. Abba had 4, Ringo had 8. Paul had 22, btw.
@@sloebone7399Yes indeed In the USA Abba had 4 top 10 from 1974-1981/82 and quite enough top 20/40 hit singles.Songs that people still remember sing and dance even there. In there the music press had a quite hostile face against those Swedish outsiders. But rest of the world had countless No1's top 5 and top 10's.Their record sales raised eyebrows cause were "phenomenal" as lots of non predjudiced critics were also reporting at the time. And all this achievement without being such a household name in the States, cause of less touring and different culture. So that was ok by them and for all of us living in the rest of the world that were buiyng their records in huge amounts ,and turned them out to be massive and for a very long time, until their unofficial break up.
The sounds you heard were from a synthesizer. Synthesizers recreate musical instruments electronically. Company named Moog manufactured the some of the first ones (back in the late 70's) Today, the synthesizers are so accurate you may believe it's a real human playing a real flute, oboe, clarinet, violin, the list goes on and on.
This is true and very well said, girl.Benny used a lot of Moog back then. Some of the songs had This very characteristic sound such as in SOS where he used a mini moog.He was a keyboard freak, totally self taught.

They seem to be enjoying themselves immensely.
Maybe the best pop-band ever, you have a lot to discover here guys!! OMG! Peace and love from the land of Sweden.
“Futuristic western sound” is the perfect explanation. I didn’t have the words to describe it before that lol
*ABBA are a living musical legend and their music has accompanied me through my teenage years. Their music is simply timeless.*
Abba was the most incredible hit machine No1 after No1 !
ABBA, Dancing Queen, this is the summum of ABBA-ness. This is the song where everything came together for Agneta, Bjorn, Benny and Anni-Frid.
Holy Moley! You have done SIX ABBA songs and none of them was "Waterloo". It was the song that put them on the map. It's the song they sang and won the Eurovision song contest with!
The Name of the Game is a fantastic opportunity to hear Anni-Frid show what she can do 😉
This is song is in the top 5 of the most sampled songs ever written. Which says a lot.
Cher covered this song a couple of years ago as well as a whole album of ABBA covers. You should also listen to ABBA's "Voulez Vous"
And Madonna used the sample in “Hung Up”.
@@beverleyeliane Yeah someone else mentioned that in another comment
My favorite of ABBA's songs. The sound is ❤️🔥
NAME OF THE GAME Pop / Rock Perfection
When I was a kid, my Dad worked for Maersk Line, the Danish shipping company; this was the 1970's and back then, senior officers could take their families on board. Most of the officers were Scandinavian or British (we're English) and ABBA was EVERYWHERE, so ABBA is basically the soundtrack of my childhood. The second I hear ABBA, I'm right back, travelling on those ships, and Gimme is absolutely peak ABBA.
Madonna sampled this song in her 2005 hit “Hung Up”.
Overwerk also sampled this song for his 2013 song “12:30”
I'm so very happy that you new kids love Abba. Back then it was REAL Music.
"For starters." That made me laugh. Don't get me wrong, I completely agree...it's still funny though.
The Beatles comparisons is overblown. Truth is Ringo Starr, as a solo artist, had twice the number of top 10 hits as Abba. Abba had 4, Ringo had 8. Paul had 22, btw.
Great list! I would add "Our Last Summer" love that song.
This wasn't actually on an album in the UK, it was the new track on Abba's Greatest Hits Vol. 2...
