A little tip for the trash bags, they usually come in rolls and you can take them out of the box they come in and put them straight in the bottom of the trash can, then put the bag in like usual. Any time you take a bag out, the new ones are already inside the can and you just unwind one of them off the roll and put it on. Keeps them super close but gets rid of the visual clutter of a box sitting out!
HEY YOU! The one looking at this comment. It's okay that your house doesn't look as beautiful as this one. My 2 bedroom apartment looks like a tornado ran through it every day. I have absolutely no motivation to clean anymore. I started judging myself watching this but remembered that if I wouldn't think that about someone else's house I shouldn't be degrading myself for struggling with my ADHD/Depression symptoms. Your house is absolutely beautiful btw! 💖
Cleaning isn't exciting, that's for sure. But as someone who's older I can tell you… Better clean now than be sorry later. I enthusiastically put my stamp on making it enjoyable, whatever it is. And not putting yourself down if you don't get to it on your anticipated schedule if you try to create a schedule. it can save you a fortune and make it easier to clean your house if you change your HVAC filter regularly. I have to climb a ladder to do that so I try to keep my ladder close to where I have to do that. depending on how long you leave it, dust can become crust that is hard to remove. A lot harder to deal with. Oh and life without hairspray is better. How do you think I discover the dust =>crust? Family member using hairspray in the bathroom, between the hairspray and the moisture in the air and Lack of regular attention to dusting = nasty crusty surfaces that are hard to reach and deal with. I use hairspray maybe four times a year, and I use a baseboard duster on a stick every now and again and my bathroom is in a lot better condition than that one was.
I'd really love a video like this focused on small spaces. It's really hard to avoid feeling like the hack here is "be able to afford being one person living in a place big enough for more than 4 people"

I don't like to clean, So I don't do mess. I sth.see houses full of clothes everywhere, pile of dishes etc and the owners are cleaning once a week. That's horrible for me because it means they are living with this mess 6 Day a week
Yeah I've noticed after watching about a hundred vids on ADHD and autism that I already set up so many ways to manage tasks...I'm finally going to a psychiatrist in a month.
Actually when I found out I had ADHD, I also found out a lot of the ways I coped with it to make my life easier. I'm very visual so I usually leave things in my line of sight or near related things. I always just turn around to see what I missed when I'm leaving a room, etc.
I am now finally accepting the fact that I have ADHD and are working towards official diagnosis. My last doctor told me I was 25 and "it didn't really matter", essentially telling me to drop it but I know. I just signed up for all three classes and I am excited to hopefully find a way to make my life and space work well with my brain! Thank you.
I understand the battle, I just got my diagnosis at 25, a week before my birthday, and my first therapist told me "well, you haven't been fired, flunked out of school or exhibited any serious problems that we could use to diagnose you yet, so we'll just wait." This channel was a big help in deciding I was right and to keep looking towards getting help.
Thanks for sharing!! Two laundry hacks I've found that are helpful 1. Put a rack and hangers in the laundry room so (lets be honest, after "de-wrinkling" the clothes in the dryer on the touch-up mode for the 10th time because I forgot that they were in there) I can just pull out the clothes and hang them up RIGHT THERE. 2. Set a timer for 5 minutes - Start folding and putting away the clothes in the basket (that full basket that permanently lives at the foot of my bed) but ONLY for that 5-minute timer - magical!! My brain always thinks the basket is a 45-minute task, when in reality it's usually done in 4 :)
I also have a hanging rack above my dryer (it magnetizes on there!) and it was a game changer! As I accumulate empty hangers in my closet I move them to that rack so they are ready for when I do laundry
There's a "tube of toothpaste" psychology where when a person gives themselves a specific amount of time they will get things done much more easily, but if they give themselves any amount, or too long a time, then they relax and take forever. See also government program budgets. lol
OMG I've never heard anyone else discuss the shower!!! God I hate it!!! I'm 64!!! The struggle and the feeling of despising the cold, the wet and cold. Often swimming, particularly fitness swimming at the gym. Ugh! Inching into the water, then inching out freezing. Also, love the fact that having STUFF out is a must!!! Geez! I'm so happy I'm not the only one! 😊
One of the best things I ever did for my AuDHD was shaving my head. I would put off showering for way too long, both because of the sensory unpleasantness that you described of having to be undressed and cold and then wet and cold, but also because my hair was just such a big task. I had A LOT of it and it required a lot of maintenance. Eliminating that task entirely was a GAME CHANGER for my executive dysfunction. I know this isn’t a possibility or a want for everyone, but it made a huge difference for me. I don’t think I’ll ever go back to having long hair
I relate to this, but my hair is so thin that its completely dry in like a 5 minute blow dry session. it always annoyed me because it got into jackets and scarves and bag straps and the car window when rolling it up again, so now I have it at a lenght where a ponytail is possible but its not past my shoulders so it doesnt get caught in everything all the time!
God, I wish! I have thick, naturally curly hair and have ALWAYS hated doing it! Washing, drying, styling, and then cleaning up the shed-fall is SO much work! I WISH I had the guts to shave it! I used to have waist-length hair, which was beautiful, but I NEVER did anything with it besides a ponytail, which didn't look good at all. So, I got it cut to shoulder length, which forces me to style it daily - it LOOKS so much better on me now that I style it daily, but I hate how much work it is! 😢 you look super-cute with short hair in your pfp btw! 😊
Tips for washing/drying long hair and avoiding sensory issues, in case they might help someone (mostly adapted from curly hair care, but using them this way for sensory reasons would work for any type of hair. You'll need 2 old tshirts and a showercap): - Keep an old tshirt and a showercap hanging close enough to your shower you can grab them from in the shower. Wash your hair immediately, then put it in a tshirt hat, and put a showercap over that. Continue showering as normal. No wet hair feeling/cold dripping hair when you get out of the shower. (search 'tshirt plopping' to get an idea for how to do a tshirt hat, but it just has to get the hair off your neck and into the shower cap for this step since you'll redo it when you're out of the shower). - When you get out of the shower, take off the shower cap and the (likely structurally unstable) tshirt hat at least keeps your hair off your skin and from dripping. Redo the tshirt hat properly at this point with a clean, dry tshirt (using a flat surface, etc., so it's also a little more secure). I leave mine in until I'm literally about to leave the house because that is the extent of the styling I do (curly hair is great!), and by the time I take it off it's damp but dried enough that theres not that cold/wet feeling anymore. This hack helped me a lot (in addition to just using showercaps as mentioned to AVOID having to wash my hair!), so I hope this might also be helpful for someone else :) It also gave more purpose to old tshirts that were nostalgic but that I didn't wear as shirts anymore (and otherwise felt guilty/cluttered holding onto), or ones that got relegated to only occasional use as painting or hair-dying tshirts.
@@KitKat10281 I was in the same boat as you! If you are considering, I will say baby steps are a good way to get to it! If after having the shoulder length for a while you think to yourself “screw it, I want to chop it off,” DO IT!!! I went from mid back, to shoulder, and then, after I spent so long doing my hair for an event and it got ruined 10 minutes in because the humidity. The next morning, I got squeezed in for an appointment for a short cut and haven’t looked back! When I did decide to try a full buzz and decided I wasn’t a fan, having done the baby steps was nice since I could just tell myself it would only be 2-3 months before it was back at a length I wanted instead of 6+ haha!
The shower thing! I added a small space heater to all bathrooms with showers, it keeps me from shaking like a leaf when I get out soaking wet. Put it on right before you get in shower and the space will be warm when you get out so you can then turn it off
I used to know someone who had a heat lamp bulb in one of the recessed light fixtures of their bathroom ceiling, right above the shower mat. It was so gloriously cozy to step out of the shower, and since the towel hung nearby, it even absorbed some of the heat from the lamp while I was in the shower, which made it extra nice to wrap around myself. (You can also get heated towel bars!)
My boyfriend bought me a towel warmer for Christmas last year and it is a GAME CHANGER -we both agree it’s the best purchase we’ve made in years. The towels are nice & toasty and dry you off so much better too!
I just don't get out, I get myself 80% dry in there and then open the door / curtain My towel is hung on the end that's farthest from the water source and its going to get wet regardless so...
I store socks in the launch pad! Point of performance with putting on shoes and saves so many trips back to the bedroom! I am putting this here in case anyone (like me for 24 freaking years) always thought clothes must stay a bedroom thing. Genuinely has saved me so much frustration since moving them
Same!! It really makes things so much easier. I also have socks and underwear in the bathroom, because I always forget those things when I’m putting outfits together at night. And on days where showering is hard but I need to clean up and change clothes at least, just for my mental health, having them there removes a hurdle.
Yes! I believe my husband and I both have ADHD and we are constantly looking everywhere for socks 😢 we have a lot of work to do to build systems that work for us.
A few months ago (now that we no longer have a dog who eats shoes!) I put a three tier wheelie rack by the front door. This is where I am training the 2 youngest kiddos and myself to take off socks and shoes so we can find them again! This has cut out so much frustration for everyone on school mornings. And I don't even take their clean socks to their room anymore, just drop them in the appropriate basket of the rack after doing laundry.
As someone with a lot of clothes, I like to limit the number of pairs of underwear I own, then when I start to run low, I know it's urgent that I need to do laundry! I have a few pairs that I like less that I keep as backups so that I don't actually run out. I helped my partner set up a similar thing where they wear fun t-shirts and we both get a visual reminder when they start wearing boring grey ones.
The underwear thing is great! I have about 17 pairs of my favorites. Enough for two weeks and a little more just in case. As they're black and I wear a variety of colors with mostly black pants, shorts, etc, two weeks is about perfect to have a decent sized load of black. It's usually not quite full even with some blue and grey things sometimes added. It's also easier to face putting it all away as it's not a full load.
I tried doing that lol, it made it worse. I just became stressed all the time and only doing loads of a few pairs of underwear and avoiding everything else. My brain will do everything in its power to do everything but the laundry 😪.
I love ADHD house tours because everything is just so practical??? I see a lot of tools that I use too, and sometimes it makes me wonder if I need to get assessed (not just from the home lifestyles, but lots of other similarities).
I put the donation bags in my car and then drive them everywhere for YEARS before dropping them off at the donation bin that I drive past 10+ times per week.
literally me. I have a box in my car with donation clothes and items that has been sitting in my car for months and months. Not sure when it will get donated 😂
For me, no cabinet doors in the kitchen works well. Also, we use the following trick for dishwasher: the moment we empty it, we add detergent for the next wash. So, detergent door open->clean, detergent door closed -> dirty.
We use our dishwasher as dripping rack for hand washing sometimes but we have a similar type with the same concept. Put soap in it before the first dirty dish, so you know this is a load or dirty dishes!
I used to have bins for all my projects and bags for all my donations too. Then one day I bought an oversized handmade basket for no reason other than I liked it. Now I use baskets for everything. Add people think I'm so organized now. 😂
When watching your basket of clean laundry, I just realized that not having a dryer helps me tremendously ! Here in Spain, we usually hang our clothes to dry, and that makes me pick up each item infividually from the clothline or the wire thingy.. I then fold it on the spot and take a column of folded clothes to my closet (or sny surface in the surrounding area) That column may live there for weeks, but it's way less daunting to tackle than a basket of stuff that I would have to fold or hang.
Having a process, almost like the production process in a factory with optimisations makes even laundry possible :D I kid you not, this is what I do for a living these days, I opitimize processes and make procedures! Cause I am an expert by now, I’ve done it for myself my entire life and they turn out pretty idiot proof. Very valuable business skill if you seek a new job ;) For laundry my best hacks have been : - hanging my clothes on handers and then putting them on the clothline ( i hope that’s a word, let’s make it a word) This way they go straight in the wardrobe after, nice and unwrinkled. This saves me from ever ironing. (Bought a special steam iron, used it twice… not an iron person) It is the most major hack! - sorting clothes while I hang them to dry. I.e. Socks and undies have a place at the back corner of the clothlines, so people don’t see them from the street. Having to sort them at that stage actually made hanging laundry more fun and less daunting and eases the further steps greatly! - Picking them up is easier, I also fold tshirts and jeans straight there and put them in the laundry basket, already sorted and folded, beginning with big types of items at the pottom and building up to tshirts ets., so it becomes child’s play to put them in their respective space in the wardrobe. Hangers go on top of the laundry basket and keep everyting together until I reach the wardrobe :) - I use a netted sleeve for my undies and delicate clothing. This way I protect them from further damage. Also they are great for socks, I never lose socks anymore. I use the same sleeves when I travel to keep such small pieces of clothing easy to find. They go out of the net only when they are in their respective boxes in the wardrobe or hang in their corner :) - I invite my cat to play on the terrace while I hang clothes to keep me company or listen to podcasts while I pick up and fold it. This makes it more fun. - In good periods I keep to a schedule of doing laundry twice a week. Not letting it pile up and having a routine time makes it far less daunting. In bad periods, when I am sick for example, or while travelling upon return, when I have at least two baskets to wash… it becomes a burden, I avoid this at all cost. If I have a situation, I will spare time for reading and will do the laundry in the meantime. This makes it feel less like a day lost in waiting for a washing machine :D - I try to use two separate baskets when I wast blankets or linen, so it is easier to separate from the rest. Even better is washing large items as soon as you remove them from the bed for example. This way you also avoid the angst ;) I hope this alleviates you as much as it did me!
AuDHD here and I am so with you on showers! I HATE them and I need to try the candles and putting the towels and robe closer to the shower trick, plus the shower cap! Brilliant! I wish I didn’t hate them so much, but one thing I try to do is make sure that I LOVE the scent of my skin and hair products so I get a good sensory boost from that to partner with the annoying sensory elements of the rest of it. It’s a journey figuring out our brains (mine too constantly thwarts my efforts to not be stinky) but having a loving mindset and sense of humor makes it that much better. Thank you for being authentic and for all that you do!
Yes! Instead of candles, I use a little waterproof LED speaker that glows different colors, I can put it right in the shower and have a little party. It was $17, and BONUS it’s shaped like a little pumpkin!
my son has dyspraxia and hates showers. i got him blue loofas and the long one for his back, changed my shower head. added eucaliptis and towel hook. still need to learn to be independent.
I cannot shower in the morning, i find it overwhelming and feels horrible. instead i put my torch on my phone in the sink (as calm lighting) and shower before bed each night. much more enjoyable and not overwhelming. I also use the small shower head that i can move lower so it doesn't go on my head. It's such a game changer when you listen to your body and how you feel and do things to help accommodate it rather than what is considered the 'norm'. Loving all these comments and so nice to relate to people.
Newly diagnosed ADHD adult, I have been struggling to understand what works and what doesn't for me in everyday life and struggling to become more self aware to create functional habits that work. Your house tour helped me start to identify these things as you went from room to room. The biggest eye opener was realizing if some things aren't out in the open or easily accessible I will not use them or forget about them... Everyone always says how I have so many clothes yet I only wear the clothing that I've left out in piles in my room, or laundry I haven't put away yet rather then opening my dark ass closet to dig through the clothes that are hung up or "hidden" in the dark abyss of the back corners. I am so glad TH-cam recommendations brought me to you and this video! :)

I wish they were readily available in my place. Microdosing was my next plan of care for my husband. He is 59 & has so many mental health issues plus probable CTE & a TBI that left him in a coma 8 days. It's too late now I had to get a TPO as he's 6'6 300+ pound homicidal maniac. He's constantly talking about killing someone. He's violent. Anyone reading this Familiar w/ BPD know if it is common for an obsession with violence.
As a plant ADHD person I can give some advice as not everyone is the same. 1) Get plants that are known to be "tolerant". That won't die when do one mistake. That can endure being to wet or to dry. 2) Get information what soil and fertilizer particular plant needs. You only need to re-pot your plant once a year but it is worth to give them what they like in soil. This way they will feel better in general so you have less problems. 3) There are long lasting fertilizers in form of sticks that you put inside once every 3 months. I recommend that. 4) You should go for plants that have similar needs so you can do the same for all of them at the same time. 5) If you already know some of your habits take plants that will work with that. For example I have tendency to water them too much so I don't get cacti. And so far I killed to coffee plants so I don't get them anymore. 6) Same for your home environment. If you know the air is dry don't take on tropical plants. Because you will probably forget to turn on humidifier and you will hate cleaning it so you will stop using it. 7) I like having wall calendar with nice pictures. If you have one as well you can use it to track your activities related to your plants. I use it only for this purpose so I don't mix it with doctor's appointment for example. If something is in this calendar it means it is plant related. Every time I put fertilizer sticks I write when I should do it again so it pops up in three months. Same for different treatments or re-potting. I keep my fingers crossed for you and your plants! It isn't for everyone so don't beat yourself if you don't have a jungle in you place. For me plants are great and calm me down. Also it is a nice hobby that fits well with how we tend to learn. I get new plant, I learn everything about this plant because I'm excited and I'm done. I don't need to repeat it again but knowledge is there.
First though: I am IMPRESSED by the size of that living room. And second though is impressed by tyhe amount of floor you can see, that's tidy in my books.

I am 26 and working towards an official diagnosis. I didn’t realize how many of these techniques I’m already implementing without having watched a lot of ADHD content. Like things being out on the counter all the time because otherwise, I will forget about it. Or having a launchpad (stealing this term) otherwise, I don’t know where my keys, wallet, or jacket is and I’ll be 15 minutes late everywhere. I thought for the longest time I was just a very forgetful or spacey person, but it turns out my brains wired a bit more chaotically. Thanks for sharing!

I LOVE socks with funky designs. But what I hated more was having to find a sock’s mate on laundry day. I tried embracing a “mismatched” sock look too- but found it tedious how often people would point it out and I would have to explain that yes, it was on purpose! So, my laundry hack: NO funky socks 😢 Only Black or White, from the same brand & only 2 variants (ankle or crew sock). Now, I just toss them loose in my sock drawer- no matching required. Do I miss cool, funky socks? Absolutely. But I get to keep my sanity. 😂
Love how each of us lands on different solutions to similar problems. I'm pretty sure my Mom also has ADHD - she likes all one style of sock, so there's little matching required. But bc of buying socks at different times and from different brands, there's minute differences in the placement of the seam, the width of the cuff, etc. So the matching requires looking at little details. My solution is to find mostly black socks with some pattern, preferably near the top of the sock, so I can easily spot the pairs in the pile of laundry. I think I would have liked your funky socks!
It's one more thing to remember to do, but amazon sells sockmate clips - you clip the matching socks together and throw them in the wash so they don't get lost. Or you can toss all your socks in a mesh bag like you'd use for delicates.
Get yourself a laundry net, those are usually for bras so it fits a bunch of socks. Put all the dirty socks inside. They will not get lost, when you take em out, they are all neatly in there and finding matching ones super easy :) From a fellow funky socks lover❤

This video is fantastic! I just wanted to note that our vet said that storing kibble directly in plastic bins is a no-no; the airtight bins are great, but you should place the food bags inside them. It’s apparently really easy for tiny scratches to appear in the plastic and kibble dust gets trapped there and makes the food go rancid/encourages bacteria to grow, which can harm your pets or at least ruin an entire batch of food or turn your pets off of a specific food because they can tell it’s rancid even if we can’t.
I love this and do so many of these things. I am ADHD, mom of 4 two of whom are ND probably ADHD. One thing I 've found is with so many people, having all the things out can be very overwelming so while we have a lot of baskets of routine based items, they all need to have a spot where they can be put away and only important and urgent things can stay out. Also, my husband totally makes fun of me for calling it a laundry machine. I have never heard anyone else call it that. ❤ i also hate the getting in and out of the shower and avoid it because it seems like so much work. I keep two deodorants and in my closet with all my clothes that and hung up in my closet that only has shut doors when i am overwhelmed and one in my bathroom get ready basket.
This was so interesting because I hate hate hate hanging clothes, and folding is so much easier and doesn't give me that yucky feeling. Part of making my closet useable was installing open cubbies (I also love being able to visually see my clothes) and I can almost always put my clothes away the same day I washed them!
Putting clothes onto hangers while they are still warm cuts way down on wrinkles and ironing. I set my alarm to check the dryer when it's done. Before I knew I had adhd I didn't bother trying to fix all of my issues, but now that I know it isn't just a personality problem, I like the challenge of finding hacks.
The effort you must have put into getting all these systems in place, wow. I space that works with my ADHD is such a great thing. How long have a gone, many decades, feeling like I just can’t “life” the easy stuff. Simple things, like doing laundry, dishes, keeping my apartment organized. Everyone making it seem so obvious but it stresses me out to the point of being emotional about it. Then I remembered I was diagnosed with ADHD as a child. But never being told anything beyond…it makes you hyper. And I’m not hyper. Thank you

Great tips! I learned a few things, but I have one to share too. I just recently put up a couple of simple shelves in my bathroom and got a few cheap, plastic baskets (no lids!) that fit on them. I, too, need my stuff to be out and easily accessible, but then I don't clean the surfaces as often as I should if I have a bunch of stuff to move. This solves that problem. I organized the baskets by task: shower, face care, tooth care, hair, ... When it's time for a certain task, I pull down that basket, work right out of it, and put it back on the shelf when I'm done. So far, it's working great and my bathroom looks cleaner than ever, which resolves a lot of background anxiety.
It's reassuring to see that some of the things we do are so similar. I wish I had as much space as you! We are a family of 6 NDs and I'm still working on finding hacks that work for the kids spaces. Normalise team NEVER FOLD 😁
I am so glad I found you!!! Thank you for such great tips! Here is one of mine: Turn all your hangers around backwards. When you wear something, hang it back up the right way around. You can easily see what you haven't worn. After a season, or whatever your time limit is, donate everything not turned around.
Don't take this the wrong way, but this really affirms that I need more space lol I have been so bogged down by how chaotic my space is but this was a good reminder that my space doesn't work for me, even if I hack it to oblivion. I luckily am looking to move but in the spring/summer so I just need to tide myself over until I'm not living in 500 sq ft with my sister and our dog
Same - my washing machine is in the garage where I have to unlock the door to get to it. It feels like climbing everest to do a washing load 😂 I'm hoping to buy next year & purposely looking for a house with the right kind of living space that enables me to live a low stress/low mental load & I can just exist.
i though the same thing, but its best to declutter, and create a system,organize(every item has a place). without a system even if you get a bigger space same problem+ excuse more stuff to buy
Clean laundry baskets! I don't put away clothes. I'm currently mentally gearing to get rid of one of the two dressers in my room that neither my husband or I use. The clothes that are in there are never worn because they don't exist. 🤣 Except socks and underwear. Those don't get folded though and putting them in a drawer is fine cuz... well... you can't really forget you need those and digging for them is far more annoying than sorting them all out of the pile at once when the laundry is done. No folding here either. Laundry is sorted into neat... stacks? lines? Turned right side out, laid all the same way and in a stack so you can see and extract what you need. Then those are laid in a laundry basket. (PS That process sounds far neater than it actually is but it works for me.) I also used to have mountains of clothing. I no longer do. I have enough clothes for a week with a few extras for occasions. Socks, underwear, all of it. The less I have, the less laundry there is and the more that forces me to do it. I did the same thing with dishes. I used to hang on to anything that was still good when I had to change things out. No more! Out it goes. I had so many cups, plates, and cutlery that I was washing dishes for 15 people that don't live here. I have 8 of most things so that I can have friends over but that's it. Two days is all we can go in this family before something has to be washed. Paper plates and plastic cups and forks are forbidden on the premises because we will use them instead of dishes. Those are bought for occasions only and we don't keep spares. They go with someone else. My kitchen isn't big enough to have the dishwasher open all the time so I have a sign that hangs over it that says 'Clean' or 'Dirty', sometimes I even remember to use it. 😁I have no other kitchen hacks yet. It's so small I have no choice but to use the cabinets. Every bathroom has its own stuff. Cleaner, toilet paper, towels, plunger, toilet brush. I do not ferry things between them. Most stuff comes in multiples anyway. I have got to figure out my office. It's my first one ever and there are so many things that I need to figure out. Wish me luck!
Okay, loving this channel! Just found it a few days ago, and my mind is blown! I’m 51 and thought all my stuff everywhere on every flat surface, a new “system” in every box, dishes never done because touching water often repels me, plants that get watered once a week and are forgiving, and complete shut down every time I try to “clean” or “simplify” was just me or just a family thing. I had never correlated all this to hyper focus + sensory issues maybe ADHD AuDHD combo! Seriously!! That said, I did stumble on my favorite laundry system so far - a five-hook-over-door-mounted coat-hanger with five canvas bags from the grocery store - one bag for each load type - which for me is by color-family - reds-pinks-purples, browns-greens, whites, blues, greys. When I change, clothes go directly into their correct load bag. Nothing on the ground, no stacks of baskets, no sorting later, no boxy laundry station that I forget is there and trip over. Bags are at eye level on my bedroom door. I wash the canvas bag with the load, then pull the clean canvas bag out of the dryer first, then stuff all the clean clothes back into the bag to take back to my bedroom. I like folding, but if I don’t have time, I put the clean laundry bag on the floor next to the dresser, so I can grab what I need until I have time to fold and put away. Thank you for this channel, and thank you everyone for your hack-shares too! So helpful, and great to recognize, ah, this is a thing, and it has REASONS, and hacks to manage those reasons! Love it!!
I was just recently (officially) diagnosed with ADHD. I didn’t realize that a lot of things you showed are things that I’ve been implementing in my space as well. Crazy how big of a difference they can make
For my “tier 1” times I have a clean basket and a dirty basket and exclusively live out of those baskets. Then when you need new clothes, the dirty basket turns into the clean basket and back and forth lol

Thank you for your complete honesty!!! I absolutely despise showering, it seems like so much work but I feel fab after a shower so I put out my favourite scents the night before with towels to motivate me while brushing my teeth. I wash my hair in the kitchen sink, it’s long and I only have to wash it 2-3 times a week. It’s an hour long process to wash, dry and style. My choice to have long hair so I deal with it. I do dip in the shower every other day super fast! I’m clean, smell nice and don’t offend myself or others 😂😂. It took me ages to get this system down but it is finally part of my “programme” as I call it! I also have a mantra, Don’t put it down! Put it away! It’s changed my life. I had to find homes for everything first but they have homes and live there happily.
Thanks for sharing! One thing is, the cats would probably love it if you moved the cat tree in front of the window. Ours love looking outside all day, and the higher they are, the happier they are. It's crazy how a lot of the compensation strategies we've figured out are similar to yours, and good to see it's not just how our brains work xD
My hack: Plastic organizer with drawers in bathroom. I get everything out that I'll need for a.m./p.m. routine, bath or hair washing and then 👍put each item back in the drawer as soon as use it!👍 It's like a visual checklist 😊 I organize as follows: Drawer 1: things for a.m. routine: tooth brush, tooth paste, deodorant, etc. DRAWER 2: Hair gel, heat protection, shine serum, etc. Drawer 3: crap I seldom use and extra toothpaste, shampoo, etc. SO, my counter stays tidy, everything is handy and I can do it on autopilot.
Here's a little tip, how to remember and let your family members know if the dishes in a dishwasher are dirty or clean. Fill out the dishwasher detergent dispenser when you start loading your dishwasher. So if it's closed and filled, that means the dishes are dirty. If the dispenser is open and empty, that means the dishes are clean.
Your house is so gorgeous, esp all that natural light in each room. OMG!! I don't know if this is a US thing (big houses?) but you have SO much room, you're blessed! Housing in Australia is getting crazy tight and extremely expensive. Diagnosed only 3yrs ago and I figured out many of these hacks too - esp clothes hanging and visible. My friends tease me that my space is like a fashion showroom - but now I actually put things away. There's zero friction to the act of hanging vs folding! And all products out on bench in bathroom in the order I use them. Not zen nor aesthetic, but functional for us ADHDers. Thanks for the video!
I keep my garbage bags at the bottom of the bin, under the current bag. When I take out the full bag, I find the new bags on the bottom. Like this it’s less clutter around.

This is so interesting! I think because I also have really bad anxiety, I HATE having things out, and having clutter LOL, but, I think having easy access to everything you need is a great idea. For me I would just need to keep it in a box or container or sorts that hides the things I need. Super interesting how everyone experiences ADHD differently 🙌

I've never been diagnosed with ADHD but I am getting more and more convinced I have it. There was some really useful tips in this video, some of which I already do. But one thing you said really hit me and that was when you talked about having your routine up on your wall and you change it up regularly because otherwise it goes into the background and you don't see it. I do that with a lot of my organisation routines and I think if I change my routines every now and again and change the way I've recorded my to-do lists it might keep me more on track. I'm going to give it to go
If you keep the same routine list but want to change the look, if you type it up and decorate it different ways, print all the different versions at once, then randomly select from them to put up and rotate them out. That way you don’t have to remember to print new ones!

So many great takeaways here, thank you 🙏🏻 I just bought a couple beautiful acrylic dry erases boards and am going to incorporate the Eisenhower matrix on one. Looks very helpful for when getting overwhelmed with what’s priority. And am going to put together a sensory box with various linen and merino wool squishies, and essential oil rollers and hydrosol sprays. I make sure I can pull my towel into the shower when I'm done, so that I don't have to open the door and get cold after that warm shower. I just dry off before I get out 😋

for the getting out of the shower transition my best trick is to have a small space heater running and pointing directly at where i’m going to be when i get out of the shower so it’s kinda nice and warm :’)

The "make your shower feel bougie and fix harsh lighting" thing is so real. Shower speaker, aurora borealis-style tiktok lights projector, and changing my shower head to one with a hard water filter/better spray/less harsh sound, GAME CHANGING
A little tip for the trash bags, they usually come in rolls and you can take them out of the box they come in and put them straight in the bottom of the trash can, then put the bag in like usual. Any time you take a bag out, the new ones are already inside the can and you just unwind one of them off the roll and put it on. Keeps them super close but gets rid of the visual clutter of a box sitting out!

HEY YOU! The one looking at this comment. It's okay that your house doesn't look as beautiful as this one. My 2 bedroom apartment looks like a tornado ran through it every day. I have absolutely no motivation to clean anymore. I started judging myself watching this but remembered that if I wouldn't think that about someone else's house I shouldn't be degrading myself for struggling with my ADHD/Depression symptoms. Cleaning isn't exciting, that's for sure. But as someone who's older I can tell you… Better clean now than be sorry later. I enthusiastically put my stamp on making it enjoyable, whatever it is. And not putting yourself down if you don't get to it on your anticipated schedule if you try to create a schedule. it can save you a fortune and make it easier to clean your house if you change your HVAC filter regularly. I have to climb a ladder to do that so I try to keep my ladder close to where I have to do that. depending on how long you leave it, dust can become crust that is hard to remove. A lot harder to deal with. Oh and life without hairspray is better. How do you think I discover the dust =>crust? Family member using hairspray in the bathroom, between the hairspray and the moisture in the air and Lack of regular attention to dusting = nasty crusty surfaces that are hard to reach and deal with. I use hairspray maybe four times a year, and I use a baseboard duster on a stick every now and again and my bathroom is in a lot better condition than that one was.

I don't like to clean, So I don't do mess. I sth.see houses full of clothes everywhere, pile of dishes etc and the owners are cleaning once a week. That's horrible for me because it means they are living with this mess 6 Day a week

Yeah I've noticed after watching about a hundred vids on ADHD and autism that I already set up so many ways to manage tasks...I'm finally going to a psychiatrist in a month.
Actually when I found out I had ADHD, I also found out a lot of the ways I coped with it to make my life easier.
I'm very visual so I usually leave things in my line of sight or near related things.
I always just turn around to see what I missed when I'm leaving a room, etc.
I am now finally accepting the fact that I have ADHD and are working towards official diagnosis. My last doctor told me I was 25 and "it didn't really matter", essentially telling me to drop it but I know. I just signed up for all three classes and I am excited to hopefully find a way to make my life and space work well with my brain! Thank you.
Your doctor meant, "it really didnt matter to him"!. Not an intelligent doctor.
Time to find yourself a new Dr! Look for a younger, more recently graduated one.

I understand the battle, I just got my diagnosis at 25, a week before my birthday, and my first therapist told me "well, you haven't been fired, flunked out of school or exhibited any serious problems that we could use to diagnose you yet, so we'll just wait." This channel was a big help in deciding I was right and to keep looking towards getting help.

Two laundry hacks I've found that are helpful
1. Put a rack and hangers in the laundry room so (lets be honest, after "de-wrinkling" the clothes in the dryer on the touch-up mode for the 10th time because I forgot that they were in there) I can just pull out the clothes and hang them up RIGHT THERE.
2. Set a timer for 5 minutes - Start folding and putting away the clothes in the basket (that full basket that permanently lives at the foot of my bed) but ONLY for that 5-minute timer - magical!! My brain always thinks the basket is a 45-minute task, when in reality it's usually done in 4 :)
I also have a hanging rack above my dryer (it magnetizes on there!) and it was a game changer! As I accumulate empty hangers in my closet I move them to that rack so they are ready for when I do laundry

There's a "tube of toothpaste" psychology where when a person gives themselves a specific amount of time they will get things done much more easily, but if they give themselves any amount, or too long a time, then they relax and take forever.

OMG I've never heard anyone else discuss the shower!!! God I hate it!!! I'm 64!!! The struggle and the feeling of despising the cold, the wet and cold. Often swimming, particularly fitness swimming at the gym. Ugh! Inching into the water, then inching out freezing. Also, love the fact that having STUFF out is a must!!! Geez! I'm so happy I'm not the only one! 😊
One of the best things I ever did for my AuDHD was shaving my head. I would put off showering for way too long, both because of the sensory unpleasantness that you described of having to be undressed and cold and then wet and cold, but also because my hair was just such a big task. I had A LOT of it and it required a lot of maintenance. Eliminating that task entirely was a GAME CHANGER for my executive dysfunction. I know this isn’t a possibility or a want for everyone, but it made a huge difference for me. I don’t think I’ll ever go back to having long hair
I complately understand. I use to have realy long hair but now when I have it very short it makes my life easier
I relate to this, but my hair is so thin that its completely dry in like a 5 minute blow dry session. it always annoyed me because it got into jackets and scarves and bag straps and the car window when rolling it up again, so now I have it at a lenght where a ponytail is possible but its not past my shoulders so it doesnt get caught in everything all the time!
God, I wish! I have thick, naturally curly hair and have ALWAYS hated doing it! Washing, drying, styling, and then cleaning up the shed-fall is SO much work! I WISH I had the guts to shave it! I used to have waist-length hair, which was beautiful, but I NEVER did anything with it besides a ponytail, which didn't look good at all. So, I got it cut to shoulder length, which forces me to style it daily - it LOOKS so much better on me now that I style it daily, but I hate how much work it is! 😢 you look super-cute with short hair in your pfp btw! 😊
Tips for washing/drying long hair and avoiding sensory issues, in case they might help someone (mostly adapted from curly hair care, but using them this way for sensory reasons would work for any type of hair. You'll need 2 old tshirts and a showercap):
- Keep an old tshirt and a showercap hanging close enough to your shower you can grab them from in the shower. Wash your hair immediately, then put it in a tshirt hat, and put a showercap over that. Continue showering as normal. No wet hair feeling/cold dripping hair when you get out of the shower. (search 'tshirt plopping' to get an idea for how to do a tshirt hat, but it just has to get the hair off your neck and into the shower cap for this step since you'll redo it when you're out of the shower).
- When you get out of the shower, take off the shower cap and the (likely structurally unstable) tshirt hat at least keeps your hair off your skin and from dripping. Redo the tshirt hat properly at this point with a clean, dry tshirt (using a flat surface, etc., so it's also a little more secure). I leave mine in until I'm literally about to leave the house because that is the extent of the styling I do (curly hair is great!), and by the time I take it off it's damp but dried enough that theres not that cold/wet feeling anymore.
This hack helped me a lot (in addition to just using showercaps as mentioned to AVOID having to wash my hair!), so I hope this might also be helpful for someone else :) It also gave more purpose to old tshirts that were nostalgic but that I didn't wear as shirts anymore (and otherwise felt guilty/cluttered holding onto), or ones that got relegated to only occasional use as painting or hair-dying tshirts.
@@KitKat10281 I was in the same boat as you! If you are considering, I will say baby steps are a good way to get to it! If after having the shoulder length for a while you think to yourself “screw it, I want to chop it off,” DO IT!!!
I went from mid back, to shoulder, and then, after I spent so long doing my hair for an event and it got ruined 10 minutes in because the humidity. The next morning, I
got squeezed in for an appointment for a short cut and haven’t looked back! When I did decide to try a full buzz and decided I wasn’t a fan, having done the baby steps was nice since I could just tell myself it would only be 2-3 months before it was back at a length I wanted instead of 6+ haha!
The shower thing! I added a small space heater to all bathrooms with showers, it keeps me from shaking like a leaf when I get out soaking wet. Put it on right before you get in shower and the space will be warm when you get out so you can then turn it off
I used to know someone who had a heat lamp bulb in one of the recessed light fixtures of their bathroom ceiling, right above the shower mat. It was so gloriously cozy to step out of the shower, and since the towel hung nearby, it even absorbed some of the heat from the lamp while I was in the shower, which made it extra nice to wrap around myself. (You can also get heated towel bars!)

My boyfriend bought me a towel warmer for Christmas last year and it is a GAME CHANGER -we both agree it’s the best purchase we’ve made in years. The towels are nice & toasty and dry you off so much better too!

I came here to say this! A space heater in the bathroom is a must for me, especially in the winter.
I store socks in the launch pad! Point of performance with putting on shoes and saves so many trips back to the bedroom! I am putting this here in case anyone (like me for 24 freaking years) always thought clothes must stay a bedroom thing. Genuinely has saved me so much frustration since moving them
Same!! It really makes things so much easier. I also have socks and underwear in the bathroom, because I always forget those things when I’m putting outfits together at night. And on days where showering is hard but I need to clean up and change clothes at least, just for my mental health, having them there removes a hurdle.
Yes! I believe my husband and I both have ADHD and we are constantly looking everywhere for socks 😢 we have a lot of work to do to build systems that work for us.
A few months ago (now that we no longer have a dog who eats shoes!) I put a three tier wheelie rack by the front door. This is where I am training the 2 youngest kiddos and myself to take off socks and shoes so we can find them again! This has cut out so much frustration for everyone on school mornings. And I don't even take their clean socks to their room anymore, just drop them in the appropriate basket of the rack after doing laundry.
My underwear are in the bathroom. My socks in the dining room. How weird I am.

As someone with a lot of clothes, I like to limit the number of pairs of underwear I own, then when I start to run low, I know it's urgent that I need to do laundry! I have a few pairs that I like less that I keep as backups so that I don't actually run out.
I helped my partner set up a similar thing where they wear fun t-shirts and we both get a visual reminder when they start wearing boring grey ones.
I've done exactly the same thing 😂 it works! Have to do the laundry every 2 (ish) weeks now
The underwear thing is great! I have about 17 pairs of my favorites. Enough for two weeks and a little more just in case. As they're black and I wear a variety of colors with mostly black pants, shorts, etc, two weeks is about perfect to have a decent sized load of black. It's usually not quite full even with some blue and grey things sometimes added. It's also easier to face putting it all away as it's not a full load.
I tried doing that lol, it made it worse. I just became stressed all the time and only doing loads of a few pairs of underwear and avoiding everything else. My brain will do everything in its power to do everything but the laundry 😪.

I love ADHD house tours because everything is just so practical??? I see a lot of tools that I use too, and sometimes it makes me wonder if I need to get assessed (not just from the home lifestyles, but lots of other similarities).
I put the donation bags in my car and then drive them everywhere for YEARS before dropping them off at the donation bin that I drive past 10+ times per week.

For me, no cabinet doors in the kitchen works well. Also, we use the following trick for dishwasher: the moment we empty it, we add detergent for the next wash. So, detergent door open->clean, detergent door closed -> dirty.
We use our dishwasher as dripping rack for hand washing sometimes but we have a similar type with the same concept. Put soap in it before the first dirty dish, so you know this is a load or dirty dishes!
I used to have bins for all my projects and bags for all my donations too. Then one day I bought an oversized handmade basket for no reason other than I liked it. Now I use baskets for everything. Add people think I'm so organized now. 😂
When watching your basket of clean laundry, I just realized that not having a dryer helps me tremendously ! Here in Spain, we usually hang our clothes to dry, and that makes me pick up each item infividually from the clothline or the wire thingy.. I then fold it on the spot and take a column of folded clothes to my closet (or sny surface in the surrounding area) That column may live there for weeks, but it's way less daunting to tackle than a basket of stuff that I would have to fold or hang.

Having a process, almost like the production process in a factory with optimisations makes even laundry possible :D I kid you not, this is what I do for a living these days, I opitimize processes and make procedures! Cause I am an expert by now, I’ve done it for myself my entire life and they turn out pretty idiot proof. Very valuable business skill if you seek a new job ;)
For laundry my best hacks have been :
- hanging my clothes on handers and then putting them on the clothline ( i hope that’s a word, let’s make it a word) This way they go straight in the wardrobe after, nice and unwrinkled. This saves me from ever ironing. (Bought a special steam iron, used it twice… not an iron person) It is the most major hack!
- sorting clothes while I hang them to dry. I.e. Socks and undies have a place at the back corner of the clothlines, so people don’t see them from the street. Having to sort them at that stage actually made hanging laundry more fun and less daunting and eases the further steps greatly!
- Picking them up is easier, I also fold tshirts and jeans straight there and put them in the laundry basket, already sorted and folded, beginning with big types of items at the pottom and building up to tshirts ets., so it becomes child’s play to put them in their respective space in the wardrobe. Hangers go on top of the laundry basket and keep everyting together until I reach the wardrobe :)
- I use a netted sleeve for my undies and delicate clothing. This way I protect them from further damage. Also they are great for socks, I never lose socks anymore. I use the same sleeves when I travel to keep such small pieces of clothing easy to find. They go out of the net only when they are in their respective boxes in the wardrobe or hang in their corner :)
- I invite my cat to play on the terrace while I hang clothes to keep me company or listen to podcasts while I pick up and fold it. This makes it more fun.
- In good periods I keep to a schedule of doing laundry twice a week. Not letting it pile up and having a routine time makes it far less daunting. In bad periods, when I am sick for example, or while travelling upon return, when I have at least two baskets to wash… it becomes a burden, I avoid this at all cost. If I have a situation, I will spare time for reading and will do the laundry in the meantime. This makes it feel less like a day lost in waiting for a washing machine :D
- I try to use two separate baskets when I wast blankets or linen, so it is easier to separate from the rest. Even better is washing large items as soon as you remove them from the bed for example. This way you also avoid the angst ;)

AuDHD here and I am so with you on showers! I HATE them and I need to try the candles and putting the towels and robe closer to the shower trick, plus the shower cap! Brilliant! I wish I didn’t hate them so much, but one thing I try to do is make sure that I LOVE the scent of my skin and hair products so I get a good sensory boost from that to partner with the annoying sensory elements of the rest of it. It’s a journey figuring out our brains (mine too constantly thwarts my efforts to not be stinky) but having a loving mindset and sense of humor makes it that much better. Thank you for being authentic and for all that you do!
Yes! Instead of candles, I use a little waterproof LED speaker that glows different colors, I can put it right in the shower and have a little party. It was $17, and BONUS it’s shaped like a little pumpkin!
my son has dyspraxia and hates showers. i got him blue loofas and the long one for his back, changed my shower head. added eucaliptis and towel hook. still need to learn to be independent.
I cannot shower in the morning, i find it overwhelming and feels horrible. instead i put my torch on my phone in the sink (as calm lighting) and shower before bed each night. much more enjoyable and not overwhelming. I also use the small shower head that i can move lower so it doesn't go on my head. It's such a game changer when you listen to your body and how you feel and do things to help accommodate it rather than what is considered the 'norm'. Loving all these comments and so nice to relate to people.
Newly diagnosed ADHD adult, I have been struggling to understand what works and what doesn't for me in everyday life and struggling to become more self aware to create functional habits that work. Your house tour helped me start to identify these things as you went from room to room. The biggest eye opener was realizing if some things aren't out in the open or easily accessible I will not use them or forget about them... Everyone always says how I have so many clothes yet I only wear the clothing that I've left out in piles in my room, or laundry I haven't put away yet rather then opening my dark ass closet to dig through the clothes that are hung up or "hidden" in the dark abyss of the back corners. As a plant ADHD person I can give some advice as not everyone is the same. 1) Get plants that are known to be "tolerant". That won't die when do one mistake. That can endure being to wet or to dry. 2) Get information what soil and fertilizer particular plant needs. You only need to re-pot your plant once a year but it is worth to give them what they like in soil. This way they will feel better in general so you have less problems. 3) There are long lasting fertilizers in form of sticks that you put inside once every 3 months. I recommend that. 4) You should go for plants that have similar needs so you can do the same for all of them at the same time. 5) If you already know some of your habits take plants that will work with that. For example I have tendency to water them too much so I don't get cacti. And so far I killed to coffee plants so I don't get them anymore. 6) Same for your home environment. If you know the air is dry don't take on tropical plants. Because you will probably forget to turn on humidifier and you will hate cleaning it so you will stop using it. 7) I like having wall calendar with nice pictures. If you have one as well you can use it to track your activities related to your plants. I use it only for this purpose so I don't mix it with doctor's appointment for example. If something is in this calendar it means it is plant related. Every time I put fertilizer sticks I write when I should do it again so it pops up in three months. Same for different treatments or re-potting.
I keep my fingers crossed for you and your plants! It isn't for everyone so don't beat yourself if you don't have a jungle in you place. For me plants are great and calm me down. Also it is a nice hobby that fits well with how we tend to learn. I get new plant, I learn everything about this plant because I'm excited and I'm done. I don't need to repeat it again but knowledge is there.
First though: I am IMPRESSED by the size of that living room. And second though is impressed by tyhe amount of floor you can see, that's tidy in my books.

I am 26 and working towards an official diagnosis. I didn’t realize how many of these techniques I’m already implementing without having watched a lot of ADHD content. Like things being out on the counter all the time because otherwise, I will forget about it. Or having a launchpad (stealing this term) otherwise, I don’t know where my keys, wallet, or jacket is and I’ll be 15 minutes late everywhere.
I thought for the longest time I was just a very forgetful or spacey person, but it turns out my brains wired a bit more chaotically. Thanks for sharing!

I LOVE socks with funky designs. But what I hated more was having to find a sock’s mate on laundry day. I tried embracing a “mismatched” sock look too- but found it tedious how often people would point it out and I would have to explain that yes, it was on purpose!
So, my laundry hack: NO funky socks 😢 Only Black or White, from the same brand & only 2 variants (ankle or crew sock). Now, I just toss them loose in my sock drawer- no matching required. Do I miss cool, funky socks? Absolutely. But I get to keep my sanity. 😂
Love how each of us lands on different solutions to similar problems. I'm pretty sure my Mom also has ADHD - she likes all one style of sock, so there's little matching required. But bc of buying socks at different times and from different brands, there's minute differences in the placement of the seam, the width of the cuff, etc. So the matching requires looking at little details. My solution is to find mostly black socks with some pattern, preferably near the top of the sock, so I can easily spot the pairs in the pile of laundry. I think I would have liked your funky socks!
Same! Although I pair them when I take the washing off the line. Not relying on dryers if you can makes it all SO MUCH EASIER
It's one more thing to remember to do, but amazon sells sockmate clips - you clip the matching socks together and throw them in the wash so they don't get lost. Or you can toss all your socks in a mesh bag like you'd use for delicates.

Get yourself a laundry net, those are usually for bras so it fits a bunch of socks. Put all the dirty socks inside. They will not get lost, when you take em out, they are all neatly in there and finding matching ones super easy :)

This video is fantastic! I just wanted to note that our vet said that storing kibble directly in plastic bins is a no-no; the airtight bins are great, but you should place the food bags inside them. It’s apparently really easy for tiny scratches to appear in the plastic and kibble dust gets trapped there and makes the food go rancid/encourages bacteria to grow, which can harm your pets or at least ruin an entire batch of food or turn your pets off of a specific food because they can tell it’s rancid even if we can’t.

I love this and do so many of these things. I am ADHD, mom of 4 two of whom are ND probably ADHD. One thing I 've found is with so many people, having all the things out can be very overwelming so while we have a lot of baskets of routine based items, they all need to have a spot where they can be put away and only important and urgent things can stay out. Also, my husband totally makes fun of me for calling it a laundry machine. I have never heard anyone else call it that. ❤ i also hate the getting in and out of the shower and avoid it because it seems like so much work. I keep two deodorants and in my closet with all my clothes that and hung up in my closet that only has shut doors when i am overwhelmed and one in my bathroom get ready basket.
I realized, I’m a different kind of ADHD but I need to watch many fellow ADHDrs to finally discover myself.
This was so interesting because I hate hate hate hanging clothes, and folding is so much easier and doesn't give me that yucky feeling. Part of making my closet useable was installing open cubbies (I also love being able to visually see my clothes) and I can almost always put my clothes away the same day I washed them!
Putting clothes onto hangers while they are still warm cuts way down on wrinkles and ironing. I set my alarm to check the dryer when it's done. Before I knew I had adhd I didn't bother trying to fix all of my issues, but now that I know it isn't just a personality problem, I like the challenge of finding hacks.
The effort you must have put into getting all these systems in place, wow.

Great tips! I learned a few things, but I have one to share too. I just recently put up a couple of simple shelves in my bathroom and got a few cheap, plastic baskets (no lids!) that fit on them. I, too, need my stuff to be out and easily accessible, but then I don't clean the surfaces as often as I should if I have a bunch of stuff to move. This solves that problem. I organized the baskets by task: shower, face care, tooth care, hair, ... When it's time for a certain task, I pull down that basket, work right out of it, and put it back on the shelf when I'm done. So far, it's working great and my bathroom looks cleaner than ever, which resolves a lot of background anxiety.
It's reassuring to see that some of the things we do are so similar. I wish I had as much space as you! We are a family of 6 NDs and I'm still working on finding hacks that work for the kids spaces. Normalise team NEVER FOLD 😁

Turn all your hangers around backwards. When you wear something, hang it back up the right way around. You can easily see what you haven't worn. After a season, or whatever your time limit is, donate everything not turned around.
The number of times I surprise myself with ice-cream because I've forgotten is amazing. Makes my day every time 😂

Don't take this the wrong way, but this really affirms that I need more space lol I have been so bogged down by how chaotic my space is but this was a good reminder that my space doesn't work for me, even if I hack it to oblivion. i though the same thing, but its best to declutter, and create a system,organize(every item has a place). without a system even if you get a bigger space same problem+ excuse more stuff to buy
More space doesn't mean less clutter. It's about habits. People who are cluttered tend to want to "fill up" then "over-fill" any space they have.

Clean laundry baskets! I don't put away clothes. I'm currently mentally gearing to get rid of one of the two dressers in my room that neither my husband or I use. The clothes that are in there are never worn because they don't exist. 🤣 Except socks and underwear. Those don't get folded though and putting them in a drawer is fine cuz... well... you can't really forget you need those and digging for them is far more annoying than sorting them all out of the pile at once when the laundry is done. No folding here either. Laundry is sorted into neat... stacks? lines? Turned right side out, laid all the same way and in a stack so you can see and extract what you need. Then those are laid in a laundry basket. (PS That process sounds far neater than it actually is but it works for me.)
I also used to have mountains of clothing. I no longer do. I have enough clothes for a week with a few extras for occasions. Socks, underwear, all of it. The less I have, the less laundry there is and the more that forces me to do it.
I did the same thing with dishes. I used to hang on to anything that was still good when I had to change things out. No more! Out it goes. I had so many cups, plates, and cutlery that I was washing dishes for 15 people that don't live here. I have 8 of most things so that I can have friends over but that's it. Two days is all we can go in this family before something has to be washed. Paper plates and plastic cups and forks are forbidden on the premises because we will use them instead of dishes. Those are bought for occasions only and we don't keep spares. They go with someone else. My kitchen isn't big enough to have the dishwasher open all the time so I have a sign that hangs over it that says 'Clean' or 'Dirty', sometimes I even remember to use it. 😁I have no other kitchen hacks yet. It's so small I have no choice but to use the cabinets.
Every bathroom has its own stuff. Cleaner, toilet paper, towels, plunger, toilet brush. I do not ferry things between them. Most stuff comes in multiples anyway.
I have got to figure out my office. It's my first one ever and there are so many things that I need to figure out. Wish me luck!
I could totally imagine replacing my dressers with bookshelves, just nice neat stacks of folded clothes, like you keep in your laundry baskets!

Okay, loving this channel! Just found it a few days ago, and my mind is blown! I’m 51 and thought all my stuff everywhere on every flat surface, a new “system” in every box, dishes never done because touching water often repels me, plants that get watered once a week and are forgiving, and complete shut down every time I try to “clean” or “simplify” was just me or just a family thing. I had never correlated all this to hyper focus + sensory issues maybe ADHD AuDHD combo! Seriously!!
That said, I did stumble on my favorite laundry system so far - a five-hook-over-door-mounted coat-hanger with five canvas bags from the grocery store - one bag for each load type - which for me is by color-family - reds-pinks-purples, browns-greens, whites, blues, greys. When I change, clothes go directly into their correct load bag. Nothing on the ground, no stacks of baskets, no sorting later, no boxy laundry station that I forget is there and trip over. Bags are at eye level on my bedroom door. I wash the canvas bag with the load, then pull the clean canvas bag out of the dryer first, then stuff all the clean clothes back into the bag to take back to my bedroom. I like folding, but if I don’t have time, I put the clean laundry bag on the floor next to the dresser, so I can grab what I need until I have time to fold and put away.

Thank you for your complete honesty!!! I absolutely despise showering, it seems like so much work but I feel fab after a shower so I put out my favourite scents the night before with towels to motivate me while brushing my teeth. I wash my hair in the kitchen sink, it’s long and I only have to wash it 2-3 times a week. It’s an hour long process to wash, dry and style. My choice to have long hair so I deal with it. I do dip in the shower every other day super fast! I’m clean, smell nice and don’t offend myself or others 😂😂. It took me ages to get this system down but it is finally part of my “programme” as I call it! I also have a mantra, Don’t put it down! Put it away! It’s changed my life. I had to find homes for everything first but they have homes and live there happily.

My hack: Plastic organizer with drawers in bathroom. I get everything out that I'll need for a.m./p.m. routine, bath or hair washing and then 👍put each item back in the drawer as soon as use it!👍 It's like a visual checklist 😊 I organize as follows: Drawer 1: things for a.m. routine: tooth brush, tooth paste, deodorant, etc. DRAWER 2: Hair gel, heat protection, shine serum, etc. Drawer 3: crap I seldom use and extra toothpaste, shampoo, etc. SO, my counter stays tidy, everything is handy and I can do it on autopilot.
This is a really clever idea that I'm going to try.
Here's a little tip, how to remember and let your family members know if the dishes in a dishwasher are dirty or clean. Fill out the dishwasher detergent dispenser when you start loading your dishwasher. So if it's closed and filled, that means the dishes are dirty. If the dispenser is open and empty, that means the dishes are clean.
My bf places a tea towel on the dishwasher door when he opens it ajar to let the steam out. If there's no tea towel, it means it's dirty :)

Your house is so gorgeous, esp all that natural light in each room. OMG!! I don't know if this is a US thing (big houses?) but you have SO much room, you're blessed! Housing in Australia is getting crazy tight and extremely expensive. Diagnosed only 3yrs ago and I figured out many of these hacks too - esp clothes hanging and visible. My friends tease me that my space is like a fashion showroom - but now I actually put things away. There's zero friction to the act of hanging vs folding! And all products out on bench in bathroom in the order I use them. Not zen nor aesthetic, but functional for us ADHDers. Thanks for the video!
I keep my garbage bags at the bottom of the bin, under the current bag. When I take out the full bag, I find the new bags on the bottom. Like this it’s less clutter around.
Put a space heater in your bathroom! The cold to hot to cold transitions are less unpleasant!
Reducing your “things” and 😅minimizing your wardrobe is the absolute best thing you can do for ADHD.

There was some really useful tips in this video, some of which I already do.
But one thing you said really hit me and that was when you talked about having your routine up on your wall and you change it up regularly because otherwise it goes into the background and you don't see it. I do that with a lot of my organisation routines and I think if I change my routines every now and again and change the way I've recorded my to-do lists it might keep me more on track. I'm going to give it to go
If you keep the same routine list but want to change the look, if you type it up and decorate it different ways, print all the different versions at once, then randomly select from them to put up and rotate them out. That way you don’t have to remember to print new ones!

So many great takeaways here, thank you 🙏🏻 I just bought a couple beautiful acrylic dry erases boards and am going to incorporate the Eisenhower matrix on one. Looks very helpful for when getting overwhelmed with what’s priority. And am going to put together a sensory box with various linen and merino wool squishies, and essential oil rollers and hydrosol sprays. Don’t know why I never thought of incorporating something like this before, as I know these things help me focus. Thanks again 🙏🏻😘
I make sure I can pull my towel into the shower when I'm done, so that I don't have to open the door and get cold after that warm shower. I just dry off before I get out 😋

for the getting out of the shower transition my best trick is to have a small space heater running and pointing directly at where i’m going to be when i get out of the shower so it’s kinda nice and warm :’)
