I do analogues for objects that are further from me. And as the objects get closer to me I start adding compliments. That way the objects in the back don't compete with focal objects for attention 😛 Edit: I didn't expect this to get the amount of likes and comments as I have. Thank you all❤️
The blue one looks amazing because the red used has a blue tone to it, so the blue ended up looking really good. If the red had a more orange tone then the green would work really well
@@perperperpenin some cases yes but like op said this is a cool toned blue and the green was warm toned. Tempature in your color can greatly change the dynamics the colors have with one another. It’s an interesting thing to look at and study
Thank you for explaining this 😭 I was confused why the blue looked good. I feel like most powerful true red-reds I come across are actually cool toned 🤔 every time I find a “warm” red it looks more like scarlet.
i actually quite liked the black. people always say “don’t use black” but i liked it here because it made the ornament actually look a maroon colour with a lot of light at the top. really pretty!!!
Don't use black is more of an advice given to beginners that I think a lot of them unfortunately keep carrying on, but it's because by using black it would become the darkest value possible, not giving you very much if any room to make it darker, and also so that beginners learn how to go about colour theory and shadows and bounce lights in the shadows instead of slapping grey or black on everything. It's also a heavily given advice to digital artists because it makes the colours muddy. It's that when used right, black looks incredible in shadows or among colours, you just need to know how to do it right. Tldr, learn the rules and how to go about colour properly before using something as harsh as black, but black is good when you know use it
To me black has its place. I know I use it a lot in coloured pencils because I like the look it gives. But I think the advice started as a don't just default to black because it's not always the best way to get the look you're after.
@@Pumpkinpie3 yes exactly. I took an advanced watercolor course and the professor was on the fence about letting us use black, but decided to trust us with it 😅
@quit-rt4vz pausing is fine but when it's less than 0.5 seconds after they take their hand away then good luck. If you make a video and you intend to show results, people shouldn't have to pause anyway to just plainly see the results unless they want to actually inspect it for a while.
@firegodessreiko thankfully with the help of my lovely brain, I came up with that idea myself and did try many times. However, the end result is there for like 0.01 second, and it was not pausing on it. That's why I left the comment. Because I couldn't pause on it. But thank you for your very useful comment, love! I appreciate it deeply.
Ok this is one thing I love about TH-cam. I can go through shorts all day and find 50 different creators that I have never heard from a day in my life with an entirely different audience and mindset to everything I’ve seen before. And they’re just vibing. Doing what they do best. Having fun and talking about the things they love. And even if I’m not particularly interested in watercolors, it’s still immensely fascinating to essentially step into the lecture hall halfway through a lesson and witness what’s currently happening in the room. Just an absolutely fascinating place this platform.
Whatever the lighting is, is your answer. If the lighting it clear and bright, with a blue undertone it is either artistic interpretation or toned pearlescents.
I think it also depends on the color of the lighting am surrounding objects for which one looks best ror a certain painting. Personally i like the blue because it looks the most realistic to me, but thats not the goal or right color for realism for every painting
In this specific painting, the blue seems to look most realistic. So if the painter is going for realism, blue seems to be the best option here. And plenty of others in the comment section seem to agree, although I did make my conclusion before opening the comments.
I think the blue looks really nice, i really like the black too and i feel like generally black for shading is looked down on when it can give a really nice look for soone lightings
Great video, love it! Just a little request, could you make the video just one or two seconds longer? It's hard to catch the final result as it loops Thanks for sharing your work ❤
The blue is good in general, same with analogous, though analogous is best for things which are in the background. the black is good but only if you’re going for a certain aesthetic in the art.
I adore your excellent videos. They remind me that I can paint and they inform me of things I didn’t get to learn before I left my art school path. Now that I am older I have time to learn again. Your work is raising the skills and capabilities of many.
I like how these shorts would always give us enough time to see the endresult. You have to pause the exact right second, how mindfull of the creator ...
In my opinion that’s a good way to do things! Obviously others will disagree, but they don’t know your particular art style, so they have no say in the matter. In the end all that matters is you and your satisfaction with your work!
I really liked the blue one, but it could just be the way it was blended a little more smoothly. This must he a good technique when it comes to where this ornament is placed in what lighting and warm or cool tone. ❤ so cool! I will adhust my watercolor paintings from now in with this strategy!
I thought this, too! But after looking extra close, I realized the blue was just more harmonious than the green or black, and provided more contrast compared to the red, which made it look more realistic than the rest.
Tip for makeing shadows : If doing one you need to remember that shadows are reflecting objects so in that case if you outside in a grassy area. Use green. If you inside water. Use blue. But please remember... Don't Use just black! Useing black sucks the colour of the objects and makes it more DEAD. Just use any colour. Make it darker and than you done.
It depends on what's under the thing If it's like a red table then the red undertone will look good If it's like a white table then black will do If there is something blue then the blue and green is green and so on Also can't forget the saturation If there's not enough light in the shadow, make it really dark and if there's a light hitting that shadow it should be brighter because the color bounces off
Dayum! That looks so good with the extra layer of red over the top! Personally, i always think that a complementary color as a shadow looks the most natural. That extra layer of red really set it off, though! ❤
