you can also find this rebranded by Meeden, in case Baohong is not available. Another alternative I really like is from New York Central Art supply. Also very good✌🏼
I love that you are now explaining your methods in the video. Very nice. I wish just having the paper would have me painting as well as you do. Excellent.
I have been using it for over two years and introduced it to my friend, a professional artist, who is now using it. It compares very favorably to Arches, Fabriano and Winsor and Newton. The only thing some people might not like is the texture if they want a very smooth surface. Arches, in the past, was the gold standard as you know. But in today’s market there are many comparable papers.
I wish Baohong Academy had been available when I started watercolor. It's such a wonderful paper for every day use. It's affordable and reliable. There's no reason to paint on cellulose unless I choose to now. I also love their Artist Grade but Academy Grade is just fine for me.
Don’t forget, the Chinese invented paper. I used this paper and liked it though I use their rough texture more. If you buy the blocks you will find that the glue is very strong and doesn’t come loose while you are working which is something I found with other brands. Each block even comes with a plastic knife to separate the pieces. The paper itself is very tough and holds up to scrubbing better than other brands I’ve tried. The rough is probably the roughest of papers, 0:03 which I personally like. The price is great, too.
My favorite too! Just fyi, Baohong has these VERY useful, inexpensive ($11) “Sample book”, about 4x5 inches, connected on one side with adhesive, 18 pages, 6 CP, 6 HP and 6 rough.. I’ve been collecting them for a few years..connected 2 together with duct tape and made a hardish cover from a cereal box. I’ve made 1 a Master swatch book…using a stamp, could put 2 on each sheet, front and back. Another one I made to put small mixing charts and “recipe’s” for some of my favorite mixes. They’re also GREAT to separate…I put my heavily granulating and separating paints and mixes on the rough..and several I just made into small sketch books, again, putting 2 together and making covers. I made some for my daughter and best friend-to fit their particular needs. My friend wanted ONLY HP and Rough, while my daughter prefers only CP!
Hi Niaz. This looks like a very high quality paper. The way though you handle it, fold it with bare hands and crease it with your finger nails is not right. You risk to ruin the sizing of the paper, scratch it and leave finger prints on it that will repel the watercolour paint. Use a bone folder for this job.
I've used Baohong before, and it is really good. I switched to a cheaper but adequate alternative only out of need to save money. Also, I have never seen that paper dividing technique. I'll have to try that out!
Your painting is amazing! I love the way you use greys. I always use Baohong blocks. It is excellent quality paper. Temu sell it at a good price also 👍
I love your art, just beautiful! 🖤 I’ve been wanting that Ava Vela candle for so long! I can’t find anywhere that sells it and will ship to America 😢 I don’t even remember how I heard of it.
Just found your channel Niaz. Hello from West Australia. 🇦🇺 I also love using the Baohong paper I’m retired so it’s also affordable for me otherwise I would be left to the mercy of some other nasty brand that makes painting an absolute nightmare. Thank you for sharing.
Well, well. I guess I have this paper already at home. It seems to be nice, but did you notice that "mini dots" I mean not the ones from a (probably dripping) brush or the ones you're actively doing for style. I'm talking about "mysteriously" appearing ones when you start to secondly wash your foreground water. It really concerns me. I haven't had that before.
Congratulation for you to found a paper that is ideal for you. I'll probably try it out at some point, I still have a lot of paper at the moment. My go to that don't have such high standard prices are Fabriano Rosapina 60% cotton and Tiepollo 100%, these are actually papers for printing art, but also work well for watercolours and are between cold pressed and hot pressed. Vang Provonce 100% Cotton and torchon. Vang Cascade Hot pressed or Fabriano Design no5 50% cotton for hot pressed paper, Otherwise, I also really like Etival from Clairefontaine, a little more expensive than the watercolor paper from Fabriano, but has a surface that is more reminiscent of expensive watercolour papers
Loved the painting 🥰, ❤ from 🇮🇳, I have a question brother, I am a beginner in watercolours, I have all the other stuffs like mini square sketchbook and camel watercolour cakes, just wanted to ask you that if I have a budget around ₹500 and I want to buy a single brush which brush would be that, I am thinking of a round 8 but they are quite expensive, I’ve found a Senellier round 6 in my budget, but is the size to small or is good, waiting for your reply ❤
I bought one sheet of Canson watercolor paper (they were out of Strathmore) at Hobby Lobby. I haven’t tried it yet. I got it specifically for a watercolor painting for my sister’s upcoming birthday. My iincome restricts me from buying much better quality supplies, but that’s okay.
Here in 🇩🇪 Baohong is not so conveniently priced. I can get 10 full 100% cotton sheets (56 x 76 cm) by Hahnenmühle, Fabriano or Arches for around 50 or 60€. It is cheaper to tear the paper myself into any shape I want. Paper made in Europe has less carbon footprint than the ones from Asia. There is a clear supply chain in terms of labour practices and sourcing of materials. I am happy to support local companies with my purchases.
I get mine from T-mu. German retailers are trying to get their big cut by reselling chinese products for higher prices. Buying them directly from China saves you lots of money.
I checked out everything he showed before starting. $400 for a little ole alarm clock that is very common and has been around forever? Must have a computer in it maybe? I just saw the price of those things and didn't read any further....I was done LOL
Thank you for this review - it’s always a pleasure watching your work. And frankly in response to a pretty racist comment above, if the Chinese are making it possible for all of us to have access to good quality paper, I don’t see a problem with that.
Susanb4816, I see you are full of criticism and nothing more. This guy is clearly a talented artist and it really is grating on you! Must be his work puts yours to shame.
Wow! I just followed your link for the paper, is it really only available for $1800 USD? That is insane. I love what you did with it, but who can afford that much for the paper?
The chinese undercutting the market again. This will eventually increase costs or reduce quality in traditional paper makers like arches; just like steel and garlic, china will drag quality to the lowest level. I would rather pay more
Ma’am. Your comment reeks of prejudice. Do you actually know anything about this company? Or do you automatically equate anything Chinese to being “low quality?” Give me a break.
No, it will break the price fixing monopoly they currently enjoy. Arches, Strathmore and Canson are all owned by the same parent company Dixon, and each is kept in it's own lane as not to be too competitive with each other. Besides, what country do you think inverted paper in the first place? China was producing watercolor papers hundreds of years before the west started painting on canvas.
@@johnjones928- You seem confused about this. Watercolour started in the late 1400s. The first cotton paper was in the 1800s. Both are Western disciples. Asia has a history of water based painting, but that ain't watercolour, and doesn't involve cotton paper. Do you know where China gets its cotton from? Slave camps.

How is the cotton sourced in China? Is it from slave camps?
Why support the Chinese economy? Sorry but no.
I used this paper at a class, I hated it. Prefer arches or fabriano.
For my purposes BaoHong Academy is a perfect every day paper. I have it in sheets, blocks, sketchbooks ... it's just great.
I've used this paper and it is my favorite 100% cotton paper.
Baohong is amazing paper !
I get the 10 metre rolls of artist cold pressed and cut it to size ..Amazing paper and great value

Thanks! Beautiful painting.
Useful information. Why I have to pay 4 and more time for same products imported by companies. Domestic is OK.
