RYR was my team back in those days! I was a huge Davey Allison fan and stuck with them after his passing. Legend has it that Mark Martin was approached to replace Davey, but he declined because he was under contract with Roush. I'd love to know if that was true. Mark would have been unstoppable in the 28 car!!!
If that's true then you might think that he missed on taking that ride because in my mind he would have gotten along just fine with Robert, a Real hands on owner, and Larry.
DJ was best decision for RYR at the time..he breathed a new life into that team...made RYR a powerhouse, lots of wins with the #88 car + a championship!!
Best thing that ever happened to Dale J. was Ernie's accident, unfortunately we didn't get to see Ernie race the rest of '94 head to head with Earnhardt.
I tell ya what when they initially signed Dale to drive the 28 my first thought was that it was a huge mistake, looking back on it now it turned to be the absolute best decision they made as a race team cause he ended up being the best driver they ever had. Irvan, all due respect, was not the same after coming back, they made the right choice...
Actually Davey Allison was the best driver Robert Yates ever had it was ended by a helicopter but Davey showed what a real driver was tough as hell and he was smart driver!! It is a shame what Nascar has become with this so called drivers who only have a seat cause they bring money and does not earn it by working their way up the lower series and then you have bubbles smollett a DEI hire who has more sponsorship than drivers who have worlds better results and a guy who does nothing but whine and cry about they do this or that to me cry baby he is but NASCAR is trying so hard to make him the face of NASCAR and they wonder why NASCAR has sunk so much and bubbles smollett is part a big part of the answer!!!!
@@liberals1are1a1joke Dude the fact that your comment turned into a Bubba rant VOIDED everything else you said... You need to get a damn life & find something else to think about... Oh and statistically Jarrett was their best driver, 2 Daytona 500 wins & a Winston Cup trumps what Davey did all due respect may he continue to rest in peace...
@@vinewood8295 "Trumps what Davey did." Really? You are comparing someone who only had 191 starts over 9 years to someone who had 668 starts over 24 years. Fun fact: Even though Jarrett drove 3.5 times as many races as Davey, he only had two more poles(16 to 14). I hate to be "that guy", but when you go look at statistics, Davey had better averages than Jarrett.

Some of y'all are not gonna want to hear this. Ernie Irvan was NOT a good Race Car Driver. At best, he was a flash in the Pan. He NEVER won consistently. I don't know anything about the man himself. But as soon as he got in a Race Car, his ego took over. He had twice, maybe even three times the ego, then he EVER had SKILL. NASCAR shows NOT let him back in a Car. J/S
That was a Great Decision!!! The 88 Quality Care Ford was one of the best looking cars in track and with Dale Jarrett behind the wheel Won Races.
Love that you have started posting these short vids! Keep it up Rick

What! I never heard that. Someone needs to ask mark about this!
It's true, Martin was offered 28 ride.
@@cheapammo5502They have. Mark has spoken about this exact thing in interviews.
@@loutenant9480 so crazy. Would love to hear the story of this.
Thanks For Uploading Rick And Steve
Love these with Larry Mac,, the all-time best quote ever came outta his mouth. "I was fixin to have me a come apart". 🤣🤣👍👍🏁
Is that when he heard the conversation over his radio between France Jr. and "Sunday Money"? 😅
Sure is!! 👍👍🏁😃

I love hearing these old stories
I loved when DJ got in the car. I was a HUGE Davey fan. I like Ernie. Still do.

great episode

Irvan had a decent 1996 and also some horrible luck. 1997 he didn't have Larry anymore and that ruined 97 for him

Sounds like Days of thunder 😅
Irvan out there driving with one eye. Dangerous as hell as evidenced at Talladega in 96
Irvan was dangerous before his crash lol.
Are you sick Larry?
