  • I ordered some oem parts for a 385 turdsaw I've had hanging up for a long time.
    I've been trying to piece this saw together for years. this should get me started.

    I haven't tried to swap a lot of parts from my 385 and 390 but looking at them side by side the only 2 things that I see that are different is the carbs and piston and cylinder.

    I run a ported 385xp with 28" and 36" bars it rips. They are kinda a black sheep, but I like mine can't even tell ya how much wood it's cut. I cut around 20 cord of fire wood a year. Good luck with it I think you'll like it when you get it done.

    The grip inserts are the same as the Jonsered 630 if that helps. I am positive that the rubber mount that the air horn sits on is the same as the 372. Mate of mine runs 390’s and I’ve had one on the bench a couple of times now. I have used both 390 and 385 and found that the 90 vibrates a bit more and noticed that it likes rattling screws out. Donny Walker said it a while ago and he is right. Good videos Mate 👍🏻

    Also scrap the 576 clutch drum, it engages lovely but after a week of running you’ll notice that it cuts the arm on the oil pump drive because it has two pegs as appose to the notches in the 372/390 clutch drum.
    It is the backlash from reviewing the saw up and down and the clutch slows down faster than the worm gear then the clutch speeds up faster than the worm gear on the way up in the revs.
    That saw is well worth throwing good bucks on because they are rippers!

    Love my 385xp. Had it for about 5 years, I run a 32” Oregon with a full house. It’s got mild cyl porting and a ported pipe. Quite a few people badmouth the 385, but it’ll keep up with if not beat my 395!

  • @rncboy2
    @rncboy2 ปีที่แล้ว +6

    Yes 365-372 xp coil is swappable the 385 390 395 coils have a broader timing curve then the 372, and flywheels I think are the same as well other then im not sure if the base ignition timing is the same or 1 to 2 degrees advanced. Carbs can swap out. Also the 385 cylinder is more saute after then the 390 395 because of the transfer shapes. The plastics im not sure on at all. Again a great video from the Tinman. 👍😎

      Is this the blue or the black coil?

    • @rncboy2
      @rncboy2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      They both enter change as well as both have a different ignition timing curve as the 385-395 coils regardless if it's blue or black. The blue coils have a rev limit typically at 13500. Reason some swap coils regardless of the builtin timing curve is they like a higher free rev then most. Also to keep the in cut rpms higher depending on your timing #'s and grade of fuel you use. Compression has a bit in that part as well. Just depending on your build!

    • @marcustraber
      @marcustraber ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@rncboy2 the 390 is hard to tune with the blue coil. Maybe the free rev limit is lower. I agree that you shouldn’t be turning that thing too fast but it’s just plain hard to tune.

    Nice saw, I just fired my 272xp last night. I was building it from parts in a box. Given to me by a friend. He claimed it was blown up but it was only a sheared flywheel key. Which was molded into the flywheel. The clutch is pinning, weak spring I'm thinking. Can it be upgraded? Nice to see old stuff revived. TC Mahalo Tinman 🤙🤙🤙

    Hi the muffler and bracket off 372 work, clutch cover also. I have been using Dukes aftermarket 385 carbs on my 372 builds. They tune good and have had no problems with them. The chain brake handle has to be for a 385 or 390. I have a set of handle plugs I will send you. You can use a 372 xtorq filter holder just gut it and the rubber thing that holds it works on a 372. Let let me know if you want the handle inserts.

    @simpsonssawshop8149 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    That piece of the wrap kit fits on the bottom of the oil tank, 395xp tank is drilled and tapped for it. Doesn't look like your 394 can accommodate it.
    It keeps the saw from leaning to recoil side when sitting on the big dawgs.

    I LOVE my 385. Close on power and a kg lighter than a 395.
    I find mine (currently stock) a fraction slower than my friends 660 and 661's but that could be my sharpening skills or as it was definately used before I got it.
    Looking forward to watching what you do with yours as intend to warm mine up a little. I really want to out run my Stihl loving friends saws. 😁
