@@jaretco6423 lol that's the reason I like hoenn so much. You don't go to a place just once and never go comeback anymore, like in Sword/Shield. It's so nice to backtrack, this makes the cities and places more alive and real, not a place that exists only to you battle a gym or get a item and fades in inexistence afterwards

    • @danielcm4237
      @danielcm4237 3 ปีที่แล้ว +50

@@jaretco6423 Hoenn is design very smartly. You may need to go back to a place two or three times during the playthrough, but the routes are so conected to each other that you don't need go walk so much to go to a place to another. Everything feels so natural e fluid.
For exemple, if you are in Rustboro and need to go Slateport, you have the option to go through Rusturf Tunnel and take the cycling road after Mawville or you can go south through Rustboro Woods, pass Rustboro city and take Route 103 by surfing and you will be just north of Slateport. You can also be creative and reach Slateport throught the aquatic route that begins in Route 104 left Petalburg City and surf across Dewford city and Abandoned Ship.
If you're in Rustboro City again and you wanna go to the Desert in route 111, you can go to Rusturf Tunnel again, go north in Mawvile and use rock smash in route 111. You can also go north and pass through Meteor Falls and Fallabor Town before getting to route 111.
If you are in Lillycove City and wanna get to Slateport you can surf all the way Pacifidlog Town and go left to the rapid currents or you can take route 121, and go south in Mt. Pyre and reach the baeach near Mawville City and then go south.
What I mean is if you only had one option like in a hallway design reagion, backtracking would be kinda boring, but Hoenn has so many choices on how you can go to point A to point B, that walk throught the routes and cities is a delight. In fact, in Hoenn I almost never use fly, just for the sake of running freely in the region

Going into this, ORAS were controversial games? I though ORAS was widely praised by a majority of the community. It distinguished itself with the Delta Episode, Zinnia, and the new and improved Archie and Maxie.
Unlike X and Y, tons of important trainers (IE Elite 4, Rival, Evil Team Leader) were given Megas, and the games as a whole vastly improved megas for the better. Secret bases and Contests were expanded upon to the point where I actually really loved contests and Lisia. Mirage Islands were expanded upon and Tons of Legendaries were also made capturable through Mirage Islands and some special places like Sea Mauville and the newly renditioned Scorched Slab. Honestly aside from the lack of Battle Frontier, these games were premiere remakes for the series.

They could've just went with the logic "just because megas weren't in the games doesn't mean they weren't there canonically".
Instead of just making a bunch of multiverses (with hoopa and megas) all they had to do was go with anime logic: just because ash didn't have megas in the original series doesn't mean that happened in an AU. With hoopa just give his portals access to anywhere in the world and maybe even the distortion world, nothing more.

Like if u know that the world would be doomed with only dry lands or sea, than what's was the point of doing it? Where are we gonna live in our life's? How are we gonna survived without land or water? It's almost like nothing happen & totally wasted my time. • @ShadowKaiserin
    @ShadowKaiserin 2 ปีที่แล้ว +10

"Heartgold and Soulsilver did it" isn't really an excuse, because what they added from Crystal was Eusine and the focus on Suicune, which is a very minimal change in the scheme of things, unlike the complete redoing of Emerald's story. Crystal was only minimally different from Gold and Silver. The Gen 2 games *BARELY* fit on their cartridges at the time, and the jump from gen 2 technology to gen 4 technology was a big one. Suddenly they had all this room left over to add a bunch of detail and little extra things. By comparison, Emerald is the first 3rd game in the series to have major changes from it's core games, there's no non invasive way to add those story changes without just making the game a remake of Emerald instead, which isn't what they wanted to do. The compromise was the Delta Episode, some after game focus on Rayquaza and nods to story beats from Emerald to make it clear they hadn't forgotten about it, which makes it on par to the Crystal additions. "But the battle frontier!" you might say, "HGSS had it, but the Hoenn remakes don't?! What gives?!" HGSS's Battle Frontier was a copy-paste of Platinum's, just like the Battle Maison is in ORAS. They would have had to rebuild the battle frontier from scratch, it's not conveniently sitting around somewhere on the ROM already like Platinum's battle frontier was. Would it have been nice of them to redo it? Yes, but that is a ton of extra work when they already have a fully functioning battle facility that *IS* just conveniently sitting around on the ROM.
People praise HGSS and put down ORAS as if one had more effort put into it than the other, when this isn't true in the least.

Small emerald changes like the gym leader rematches, improved gym leader teams, mirage tower etc could’ve made it in. They didn’t have to ignore everything emerald brought to the table. HGSS just about has everything that GSC has and more making them the definitive johto games. Heck they recreated the original GSC soundtrack for a post game reward even some areas that didn’t exist in the originals got 8bit remixes. That alone is a lot of effort. Then there was the completely unnecessary pokewalker that was included with every copy of the game. Idk I feel like HGSS had a bit more effort then ORAS imo. ORAS are better then Ruby and Sapphire but ORAS vs Emerald is debatable. While HGSS is no doubt the best johto experience you can have.

      @ShadowKaiserin 2 ปีที่แล้ว +7

@@CEDL0W Here is where I will disagree on Emerald being the definitive experience.
Emerald made the story far more messy and even messes up the atmosphere a bit.
They tried to squeeze two teams into a one team storyline that was created with Sapphire's story beats in mind first and foremost. Team Magma gets the main set piece in the story, the Mount Chimney fight. This, combined with their quick appearance at Meteor Falls immediately before, their base coming before Team Aqua's, and the Mossdeep Space Center fight that was added just for Emerald, the game gives the impression that you see much more of them than Team Aqua, even Battling with Maxie 3 separate times while Archie is only battled once. The two teams feel unbalanced, because the story was only ever meant to feature one as the antagonist.
And because you battle Maxie and watch him awaken Groudon in the Magma base, the game no longer makes sense. The world isn't allowed to be in crisis until after the seafloor cavern, so you awaken Groudon and...Nothing happens. You go to the Aqua base, beat Matt, surf to Mossdeep, beat a gym, fight Maxie *AGAIN*, surf out to the seafloor cavern, fight your way to Archie and fight him for *THE ONE AND ONLY TIME*, he wakes up Kyogre, and then, *SUDDENLY* Groudon's drought is also affecting the world?
Also, because Rayquaza now has to be involved, the atmospheric trek down to the bottom of the cave of origin with the quakes signifying the thrashing about of the ancient pokemon you're about to face in the crystal lined room is gone, replaced by a single floor and a quick, meaningless conversation with Wallace that could have happened outside and only serves to highlight what was lost.
You don't even need to be the one to go after Rayquaza, Wallace could have gone and been back in the time it takes you to get back out of the cave and fly after him. Your involvement comes down to running through some dungeon floors and using fly a few times. It's boring and anticlimactic.
And for those who would say that in RS the story just ends after you catch the Legendary, you can in fact fly to mount pyre and see Maxie or Archie returning the orb and talk to him, as well as choose to return your own orb.
As far as other changes go, the battle tents are unnecessary and having them replace the contest halls means most berries don't have a use until almost the end of the game, lessening the overall experience of all the features Hoenn has to offer. The Mirage Tower was also an unnecessary addition, it just makes it more annoying to choose a fossil, and their placement in the original games would have actually made more sense for where the other one ends up in the desert underpass. I don't know a single person who actually did anything in Trainer Hill. It's overshadowed by the Battle Frontier like the Battle Tents, and is little more than a glorified Pokemon Center for most of the game. The only Gym Leader line-up changes that were actually worth carrying over were Wattson's and Tate&Liza's. The others added Pokemon that were little more than padding and didn't actually add anything to the fights. Winona's line up was downgraded by it, even. I will admit to the Gym Leader rematches being a worthwhile addition, though. Having the Underpass with the second fossil and ditto would have been nice too, but it's a small loss in the scheme of things. Also, having a Water Gym Leader right before a Water Champion. Steven Stone is more enjoyable to fight in the final room.
All in all, of the original three, Sapphire actually makes the most sense story and pacing wise, and while Emerald had some great additions, it also messed a little too much with what was good about the first two. And by that metric, Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire did a much better job clearing up and expanding upon the original story than Emerald did. They also add all the mechanical improvements that have come about in subsequent years making more Pokemon viable to use and the game overall more convenient to play. They also have additions of their own, not the least of which is a school yard rumor come true, complete with fighting and capturing an eternally available Mythical Pokemon in *space.*
They say a good remake is one you'd replay over the originals. Maybe that isn't true for most people, including you, and that's fine. You're entitled to your opinion. But to me, Alpha Sapphire is the definitive Hoenn experience, and not even Emerald's battle frontier can change that. They're good games, and they have every bit as much love and care and detail put into them as HGSS. You can deny it if you want, but it's true all the same.

While I felt FL/LG were less fun/ambitious than the originals and HG/SS were roughly as good/impactful as the originals with some cool features (though both being some of the best looking games by far), these games set the standard for how I think remakes should be. While I would say I do enjoy Emerald more (I know, that seems like a huge contradiction) as probably my favorite Pokemon game, I'd easily place these in the 3rd slot (Sun/Moon for 2nd). Finally, the game just lets you play with all the Pokemon, and properly expands the Hoenn-Dex, still keeping a well focused region which is very important. This game also hits on all the themes that the originals tackled, but in some cases much better, which really is the most important thing a Pokemon game. Outside of that things like the demo (absolutley loved that), injection of color and design (part of what made Gen III great were they were the first Pokemon games to really capture a feeling of being outdoors in nature), character fanservice, having one of the best Elite 4 run throughs and rematches, island hunting/soaring, as well as awesome contests really infected a lot of the 3DS style life into this game that's just been missing from games for a few years now. The Delta episode in particular was astounding, as this game already went underwater and in the air, but adding in going to space really made it feel like it completed Hoenn as a rejion. Honestly seeing that space station as a teenager was cool in the originals, but actually getting to go to space on Raquaza's back and fight Deoxys (which was near impossible to get where I lived) was living a Pokemon dream that I never even knew I had, blowing my expectations away in the best possible sense. Zinnia also added well to the Delta episode by focusing more on Hoenn's thematic focus and questions about people in nature so that it's not just a big dumb (but very cool) space fight. Also, because I took my 3DS to a comic convention (thankfully before Sun and Moon) my game is loaded to the brim with secret bases, which was a very sweet bonus.
However, as stated Emerald is my favorite, and a big part of that is the original Battle Frontier, which I loved (the Gen IV was pretty boring for me). While the Maison is cool and has nice partner options, the original Battle Frontier is the hard pure mathematical and statistical mechanics of the Pokemon franchise refined and focused, while adding on plenty of fun twists. Given all the praise I've spouted above for what the remakes did with Hoenn, I can't help but imagine what we missed out of a revamped Battle Frontier, and what it would bring to the table. I know they said it was a difficulty thing, but I'm guessing it was actually a time thing, and I think this (along with a lack of Pokemon Z) was the actual time Game Freak should have embraced DLC. On the bright side, the other areas added are nice, and if I had to choice between a returning Frontier or the Delta Epidote, I'd absolutely pick the Delta episode since it's something new, and for the other reasons above.
Frankly I do not believe in such nonsense as "A perfect Pokemon Game" or "A Golden Era of Pokemon" however, the 3DS era is certainly my favorite Pokemon era thus far, and I feel like if ORAS had all the stuff listed above AND the Battle Frontier, it would be the Pokemon game I'd be most comfortable in calling perfect. Alas, not the case, bit it's still a game I absolutely love, and as someone who's favorite region is Hoenn, I'm glad it got the remakes I like most by a wide margin.
P.S. I think citing there being debate as an argument for where these games stand given the circumstances is in itself a super weak argument in and of itself.

LONG RANT INCOMING! I'm about to tear the Delta Episode into shreads. If you like it or Zinnia or the multiverse thing more power to you but I don't and here's why:
So a meteorite is coming and Steven and the Mosdeep space station plan to send it to another universe. Sure okay, kinda weird but I can dig it. But then we get into Zinnia.
Zinnia is a nut. She goes around saying stuff she expects us to know when we're literally just good at battling Pokemon. She keeps coming to the space station spouting nonsense no one understands and saying we're idiots for our fool proof plan even though she doesn't provide her own solution. Instead she asks us for a solution even though we're a child. And guess what she does later in the story. Breaks the thing we need to send the meteorite away. She tosses away our fool proof plan even though she hasn't brought up her own solution yet. That is until we get to Sky Pillar where she finally brings up Rayquaza and how she wants to use it to stop the meteor so no one gets hurt. How hard was that to say instead of your nonsense and belittling. And when we're at the top of Sky Pillar and we hear Zinnia go on a few speals, she then knocks us out so that we could be her back up when Rayquaza comes in the daytime. Why couldn't we just wait with her for day time? Just tell us we need to wait. Why is her getting a damn point across so hard? Anyway Rayquaza comes and surprise surprise, she can't tame it and basically put the entire world in jeopardy if it wasn't for us having a meteorite in our backpack. We all didn't die cause we got lucky. We catch Rayquaza, Dragon Ascent the the entirety of Zinnia's team and go fight Deoxys. I know this story might've been told better in the manga but I should not have to look to external sources of media for a story that should've told it in the first place.
Also Courtney comes at one point butthurt about Maxie and decides to have the Earth destroyed. What? And she has grunts supporting her?! Look, guys, I know she's hot but you can do better. You live here, think with the first head.
And don't get me started on the multiverse shenanigans. First for story Zinnia brings up the original Ruby and Saphire Hoenn and how the meteorite will be transported there. Now, *we* know they exist but the chsracters in game should write this off because it's way too outlandish to be true snd it's not like she has much proof so it just comes off as stupid. And out of game this lead to a downward spiral of there being more and more universes to where each different cartridge of a game is another universe and to me it just became confusing. I'm kinda glad Sword and Shield was so detatched cause now there wasn't any timeline nonsense from the last few previous games.
Overall I think the Delta Episode is a long talking spree that's only cool at the end and makes me wonder why I and many others liked it so much in the first place.

You've captured my thoughts exactly on that last phrase, about how despite being good games an older version can still compare or surpass them on a lot of aspects. Also, the Delta Episode works fine for the context of mega evolution and Kalos themes, but I don't know, I've always felt that this remakes try to make a pseudo sequel to XY on the D.E. and in some cases ignore what made Hoenn so great.
It's curios you didn't mention how they give so much spotlight to Brendan as a rival, yet he does absolutely nothing in the story and has no arc whatsoever besides being the moral support, and yet the character that was one of the best things the original game had to offer still has only 2 battles, yeah with a mega and all, but it was clear since the beginning who was the most interesting character out of the 2. And yet it doesn't matter how much screentime Brendan got because once the Delta Episode is finished he just sits on his house and gets no rematches or interesting dialogue, while Wally just so happens to be the one that introduces you to the Battle resort and the one you can battle with there. They just didn't know who to go with and that seriously hurts my experience, coming off from XY.
And yeah, the soundtrack is great in some occasions but it doesn't have the same feel as the original, being a lot more techno and synthesized compared to the trumpets.

      @castform7 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

Brendan wasn't really a sexist to my knowledge, especially not in the remakes. The whole "thought you'd be a boy" thing, yeah definitely but the offer to catch a Pokemon could be interpreted as a friendly offer to help you start on your journey since he does say he wants to be friends. I think he's already come to respect you by the end of your first battle at the latest as he treats you like a good friend on all of your encounters afterward. In ORAS, they even take out his most sexist line "I'm gonna fight your dad and unlike you he looks pretty tough". Even in RSE those moments were sparce and he treated you like a friend. I ORAS it's basically dead in the water. Not to say I have a problem with that. I really like the interactions with with the rival.
As for May, specifically speaking with ORAS, I think she's fine. I really feel like you go from simple neighbours to best friends. I don't think it's a bad thing May stayed the same. Where she didn't grow your friendship did (same with Brendan just wanted to highlight it here). Whenever she came along I was increasingly happy to see her, as they appeared so much more in these remakes so you get to speak with them more. I really felt something when I came out of the hall of fame and saw May standing there waiting for me to go back with her. To me, she (and Brendan) was a good friend that only got better with each encounter.
That's just my opinion on the 2.

THANK YOU FOR CALLING OUT THE DELTA EPISODE!!
People continue to rave about it, and I honestly didn't think it was amazing. Great final battles an cutscene, of course, but actually playing most of it was just kind of boring. Plus, most people when discussing postgame content, this is one of the top things people want in any game. A Platinum episode in BDSP, and similar things in other games. I do but don't want just that. While it was pretty cool, in the end, it's really just more story that you'll finish. Obviously there's a separation between the main story and the post game story, but you'll still eventually finish said post game story. I don't mind that and welcome cool postgame stories, but what I really want is more content to keep me REplaying, not just playing.
HGSS, for example, had the Pokeathlon with cool minigames that you could do with any Pokemon to get some neat items. Additionally, there was plenty of ribbon collecting and even the gold leaf if you care about that kind of stuff. But more than that, there were some really fun ways to train up your Pokemon for battle online or wherever. Rebattling the gym leaders on certain days for example was really fun (Grinding Blissey bases in ORAS was effective but definitely not fun). And of course, the incredibly technical, difficult, and CREATIVE battle frontier where you could actually use said trained Pokemon for something other than online. ORAS was online or battle tower clone. That was it. I just want to have stuff to do after the finite stuff like the post-game story end.

HGSS and the Black & White duology are probably the best examples of that I think has an perfected post-game content. It's not just like doing Battle Frontier in one big area ( Though unpopular opinion. But I don't care about the Battle Frontier. ) There's more to explore, battle trainers, compete other battle facilities ( which I consider to be better than the Battle Frontier. ) and other stuff to continue your quest.

This is the first Pokemon game. The game that really got me into the series and I owe it so much. That being said as I gaze upon it with my nostalgia googles pried off I see a lot more issues. Not carrying more things from Emerald and the Delta Episode are 2 big things that come to mind but I do have other issues. But I cannot for the life of me call them bad games or I have so many fond memories and there are so many little details I love and it really feels like in some places they really did care and deliver. ORAS is far from perfect or even from a true definitive version of Hoenn but I still love it.

My choices for a perfect ORAS:
    - Gym Leader Rematches.
    - Battle Frontier (with the Battle Tower replaced with the Battle Maison, to forshadow Anabel's career change).
    - Improved Boss Trainer Rosters:
    Gym Leaders:
Roxanne: Perfectly fine. One Geodude is enough, no need for that 2nd they gave her in Emerald.
Brawly: Should've kept his Meditite from Emerald, but with a much better moveset (so not just Focus Punch for damage).
Wattson: Should've used his Emerald Team, but leading with Electrike instead of Voltorb (or remove one of them, see below).
Flannery: Actually has the best team in ORAS, with no repeats and 3 different Pokémon (which is why Wattson is fine with 3).
Norman: Should've used his Emerald Team, but leading with Vigoroth instead of Spinda (as it fits to lead with a devolved Ace).
Winona: I'd say she should use her Emerald Team without Swablu. (But I prefer Swellow over Skarmory for being from Hoenn.)
Tate & Liza: Four Pokémon like in Emerald, but instead of Xatu and Claydol they use Gallade and Gardevoir.
*Following Boss Trainers should have a Mega, so I'm giving them one. Even if it doesn't exist but deserves.*
Wallace: Mega Milotic for both battles, and replace the Gym Seaking for a Crawdaunt, like Juan did.
    Elite 4:
Sidney: Mega Absol in initial battle. I do prefer Emerald's Crawdaunt over Sharpedo due to Team Aqua.
Phoebe: Mega Sableye in inital battle and replace one Banette with Shedinja, you coward.
(Mega Banette can also work and puts it more on par with Dusknoir, but Mega Sableye wasn't in XY. Either is fine.)
Glacia: Mega Glalie in inital battle and replace one Froslass with Castform, as her thing is Hail.
Drake: Mega Salamence in initial battle. I do prefer Emerald's lack of 2 Flygon and lead Shelgon, though.
(Final) Rematch Teams, mostly chosen from B2W2's PWT Hoenn Leaders Tournament:
Gym Leaders (where only Tate & Liza stick to Doubles Battles, unlike Emerald. With one exception...):
Roxanne: Golem, Aggron, Relicanth, Cradily, Armaldo and Mega Probopass.
Brawly: Machamp, Breloom, Medicham, Heracross, Blaziken (instead of Hitmontop) and Mega Hariyama.
Wattson (Double): Plusle, Minun, Magnezone, Electrode, Raichu (though I prefer Lanturn) and Mega Manectric.
Flannery: Magcargo, Camerupt, Houndoom, Rapidash (instead of Magmortar) Blaziken and Mega Torkoal.
Norman: Linoone and Delcatty (instead of Kecleon and Castform), Spinda, Zangoose, Exploud, and Mega Slaking.
Winona: Swellow, Altaria, Skarmory, Pelipper, Ninjask (instead of Honchcrow) and Mega Tropius.
Tate: Grumpig, Gallade and Mega Solrock. Liza: Chimecho, Gardevoir and Mega Lunatone.
    Wallace: Just his Champion Team.
Juan: Skipping him as he doesn't appear. He could easily replace Wallace for Rematches or be a bonus boss, though.
    Elite 4:
Sidney: Same "issue" regarding Crawdaunt vs Sharpedo. I also think Zoroark doesn't really work due to a Type Specialty.
I'd say replace it with Hydreigon so he has a Psuedo-Legendary (that's also from Unova like the two other additions).
Phoebe: Same "issue" regarding Mega Sableye vs Mega Banette. Prefectly fine otherwise, as Shedinja sucks lol.
Glacia: Perfectly fine right away. No need for the sometimes Ice-Type Castform (and it sucks too).
Drake: Perfectly fine. All strong, no repeats, one Psuedo. I would make Haxorus the lead for being pure Dragon.
Steven: Skarmory, Mawile, Steelix, Scizor, Aggron and Mega Metagross.
I went for this Team as I wanted an actual Mono Steel-Type Team. Not to mention his Team isn't consistent:
    - Aerodactyl (which is used in the Battle Maison) and Carbink replacing Cradily and Armaldo in the ORAS Rematch.
    - Archeops and Excadrill replacing Skarmory and Claydol in the PWT.
So my choice for his team is the lead Skarmory, followed by 5 Steel-Types able to Mega Evolve (like Aerodactyl can).
Still a Ground-Type like Claydol (and exactly like Excadrill), a Fairy-Type like Carbink and a Bug-Type like Armaldo.
Zinnia (First): Tyrantrum, Noivern (instead of Altaria) and Goodra (instead of Salamence).
Zinnia (Second): Tyrantrum, Dragonite, Salamence, Garchomp, Hydreigon and Mega Goodra.
The first Team is the 3 Kalos Pokémon she actually uses in the second battle, while also reflecting my change in Ace.
The second Team is the (up to that point) only Dragon-Type Fossil and all Psuedo-Legendary Dragon-Type Pokémon.
This felt much more fitting, due to you having Mega Rayquaza. So she should have a Team of 6 Pokémon.
As such, Noivern and Altaria got replaced with Dragonite, dropping her Dragon/Flying Pokémon from 3 to 2.
Then a Garchomp and Hydreigon got added and Salamence lost its Ace and Mega spot due to Drake covering that.
Instead, her Ace is the Goodra, which is why I replaced Salamence for it in the first battle as well desite her still using one.
It made sense due to being from Kalos like most of her team (and now with just the lead) and her only pure Dragon-Type.
    New Mega Types and Reason:
Mega Probopass: Rock/Steel. Because Mega Aggron is no longer a Rock-Type, so I had to choose the other.
Mega Hariyama: Fighting/Water. Brawly does already work with Water and Hariyama can learn Surf.
Mega Torkoal: Fire/Steel. As it didn't feel right to make it Fire/Rock or keep it pure Fire-Type.
Mega Slaking: Normal. To keep Normal with an actual Mono-Normal Team.
Mega Tropius: Grass/Flying. It fits with Fortree and Lisia took Mega Altaria (which isn't a Flying-Type anymore anyway).
Mega Solrock: Fire/Psychic. Litteraly a Sun and can learn quite a number of Fire-Type moves (and Solar Beam).
Mega Lunatone: Ice/Psychic. Solrock's opposite and can learn quite a number of Ice-Type moves, though not by Level Up.
Mega Milotic: Water/Fairy. The already Fairy-Type looking counterpart to the Dark-Type Mega Gyarados.
Mega Goodra: Dragon/Water. It litteraly evolves when in the Rain and naturally learns a number of Water-Type Moves.

I have to disagree about "player freedom". Everyone is making a fuss about it, like it's the most important thing in the world, when it's actually not that big of a deal (in my opinion).
Sure, you could argue that putting a roadblock until you've beaten the gym is objectively a bad thing, since if it wasn't there, you could continue without beating the gym, but still beat it right now if you wanted to. However, is really letting the player leave the town without beating the gym letting them more freedom ? Especially when the game has been imagined for you to beat the gym at that moment, and not come back later when you've got 10 more levels. By doing that, you're gonna have to grind a little to compensate for the fights you missed in the gym, and then, when you'll finally beat the gym, it's gonna be boring because you were supposed to beat it sooner and now you're overlevelled. Plus, the game still forces you to visit the towns in a certain order, and when you take that into account, it's pretty counterintuitive to leave the town without beating the gym.
    5:49
About that very specific line, I have to strongly disagree. Actually, I think making the progression in Johto linear would help resolve its arguably biggest problem : the progression. Think about it, after beating Morty, you have access to two different "plotlines" that you can do in any order you want : the Olivine plotline, and the Mahogany plotline. But since the levels are the same, no matter which plotline you do first, you're gonna be overlevelled for the second. Forcing the player to do them in a certain order would allow the levels in the second plotline to be higher than in the first one, making the progression more linear.
On a more positive note, I really like your take on Emerald inclusions (at 7:37). It even makes me wonder, why even make a RS remake and not directly an Emerald remake. Emerald is already somewhat of a RS remake, why not improve on what has already been improved instead of going back to square one ?

The only real problem I can think of would be the lack of the battle frontier and maybe getting handed a free latias/latios. Pretty solid visual upgrade with interesting new megas and it was nice having a few newer pokemon available towards the end. That's mainly why the dp remakes look so disappointing to me, they look worse than the 3ds games and we probably won't be able to use any of the newer pokemon so I don't really see any point in buying those when my copy of platinum works fine and looks better.

I honestly didn't like ORAS. I mean, yes. I'll admit, without it exploring and sending over Pokémon from Hoenn would be tedious and expensive. And yes, the character redesigns were WAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAY better than their originals! Definitely for sure!
But the truth is, FireRed and LeafGreen as well as HeartGold and SoulSilver were made because you LITERALLY CAN'T send Pokémon over from the GameBoy/GameBoy Colour games over to the GameBoy Advance. The hardware literally wouldn't allow it. So connecting Kanto and Johto to Gen III and IV was only possible through remakes. And in my opinion, FR/LG and HG/SS were the definitive versions of their regions. But you can still technically send Pokémon from Hoenn in GBA all the way to Pokémon X and Y. It can be done.
To me, ORAS also didn't feel like a definitive version of Hoenn, but rather an alternate version. And while Johto's remakes got all the extra bells and whistles that came with Crystal Version, ORAS got absolutely nothing from Emerald. The Delta Episode doesn't count as far as I'm concerned.
Aaaaaaaand, it was the demand for Hoenn remakes that became the reason why we never got a Pokémon Z, and why Kalos will continuously be a VERY boring region.
I won't even start with BrilliantDiamond and ShiningPearl. To be honest, I think Nintendo and Game Freak should stop making remakes all together. Just no more. Instead, port the originals over and yeah, remaster and touch them up slightly if you want. But make it so that you can still send Pokémon from these games to newer ones. Kinda like how the Virtual Console Gen I and II games worked with Poké Transporter and Pokémon Bank. If they ported every game from Generation 1 - 7 onto the Switch and sold them all individually, they would make a freaking killing. Of course, Gen III - V games should still connect with each other for backwards compatibility trading like before.
    Anyways, that's enough rambling. Sorry.
