    I never personally had trouble with Whitney, Morty was much more a pain in my Nosepass. That being said I would see the challenge she poses for different people using different Pokemon. It's not just Whitney either, there are so many trainers out there that yeah might be easy for someone but'll be a pain for someone else if they aren't prepared or don't see it coming. Cynthia, Ultra Necrozma, Leon ect.

      I actually had more problems with Jasmine than Whitney, mostly for the same reason the latter is hard - due to lack of preparation, I was underleveled and my super-effective options were pretty subpar. Not to mention that Steelix has monstrously high defense and Iron Tail hits really hard (when it hits).

      I'm surprised he didn't list Ultra Necrozma as one of the hardest challenges in Pokémon, especially core series.
      +2 Omniboost at Level 60+ when your likely in the low to mid 50s, along with it having decent coverage moveset.
      Yeah, though it's easy to cheese using a certain mon, it's still one of the hardest boss battles up there.
      Also I personally rank Mewtwo battle from LGPE as one of the hardest battles in Pokémon as not only does it have Powerful Psychic boosted by and Omniboost in stats, it has Amnesia and Recover, plus you only have 5 minutes to drop him or else the battle is over.

    • @evawhite1144
      @evawhite1144 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I honestly never struggled with either of them. I always choose Totodile as my starter, and evolve it before facing Morty. Feraligatr learns crunch at lvl 30, which is enough to literally one-shot Morty's entire team in HG/SS. For Whitney, my strategy is to paralyze Miltank with a Flaafy, (obviously you'd have to do it twice, cause Lum berry), and then spam dig with Croconaw, to constantly break her rollout chains, so she can only attack every 2 turns. Another idea, is to catch one of the Nidos (preferably the female, cause she's immune to attract and gets double kick), in an attempt to poison the Miltank with poison touch, so that it'll consistently lose health every time. Not only that, poisoning the cow, means it'll spend more time spamming milk drink to heal itself, and wasting Whitney's potions too, which gives you more free turns to attack. So yeah, if you don't want to go kaboom with a Graveler, or use a fighting type, (Heracross is a beast with guts and brick-break, but it's really, really hard to find in the headbutt trees in Azalea), my best advice is to cause her a status condition, (paralysis or poison, but I prefer poisoning), and then spam dig. So yeah. I just roll up to her gym with a Croconaw, a Flaafy and a Nidorina, and that's usually enough to beat her.

      Ghetsis whooped my ass in my first Black playthrough. I didn't know what to expect yet, since I always play my first run completely blind and he laughed in my face and sent me packing right back to the pokecenter telling me to 'git gud, scrub'. It was a stark reminder that I should not neglect the occasional grind session, or else there would be consequences. Still got him on my second try, though and he hasn't been a problem since, so he doesn't stand out as much as some others.
      A one time surprise, really. Unlike Cynthia, for example, who requires extensive prep time and counters. She can be easy too, but making a team that can thwart her that is also good against the E4 before you finally get to face her down is a much bigger challenge than anything Ghetsis ever did.

    Honestly, I can see your point about Machop. In the case of Whitney, I overleveled a little and relied on my starter. I honestly had a harder time with Claire's Kingdra. First time, I brought LUGIA to this fight. Later times, I taught a Pokemon Dragonbreath.
    Some people had issues with Norman or Juan but I didn't. I struggled a little against Steven's Metagross, but I still beat it in my first try with enough patience.
    Cynthia is the real eye opener. In Gen 4 and 5 games, she is always the toughest trainer in the game.

      Not necessarily. I see two ways even a nuzlocker could get out of there unscathed. Leveling up your Magikarp to Gyarados, or pairing up a level 21 Butterfree to paralyze it and a Nidorino/Nidorina to deal with Starmie through Mega Punch. You could make it out of Misty relatively fine with any of those setups. If you're playing casually and not a nuzlocke setting, other options are Wartortle/Pidgeotto or the rare Clefable.

And contrary to you I don’t remember anything in particular about the ribombee battle but I’ve heard it was hell for many
      Personally I believe the totem battles are some of the most difficult challenges during the main run in main series games because ithe fact that is 2 vs 1 and the pair of Pokémon have incredibly good synergy, so the battle doesn’t just feel like hitting a Pokémon hard and onto the next one, just look at lurantis:
      +2 speed boost so it outspeeds almost everything you may have
      120 power physical solar blade that can be used in 1 turn because it’s carrying a mental herb, the one turn solar blade can also be done when castform sets up sun
      Synthesis so it can recover 50% health and 75% under the sun, keep in mind it’s also faster so it always cures first
      Razor leaf that can crit
      X scissor for coverage
      Leaf guard so you can’t status it in sun
      Castform
      Headbutt, 70 Power is something at this point in the game plus it can flinch
      Weather ball, which becomes fire and boosted under sun
      Sunny day, basically it unleashes hell in this battle

      Destiny Tower in SPMD isn't anything like Purity Forest or the original Destiny Tower in PMD:EoS, though, despite having 99 floors and something mythical-pokemon-related at the end. PSMD's Destiny Tower doesn't have restrictions on items, number of party members and their levels, so it's already not the same kind of challenge as Purity Forest/OG Destiny Tower, even if it isn't an easy dungeon. The closest thing Super has that resembles these two is Sacred Ruins, which **does** put restrictions on bag, number of party members and their levels, as in no items and only one Pokemon at lvl 5. This dungeon is only close to resembling Purity Forest and the rest, because it has 39 floors with no reward at the end (this dungeon is important for 100% completion, but escaping from it does as much good for the progression as actually beating it)

    Catching every Shadow Pokemon on Greevil's team in one go using only your team is actually a massive challenge. You pretty much have to stall out to get stat debuffs and status effects and pray that you can catch everything in the first couple tries. Good luck catching three legendary birds swiftly. (It was probably designed so that you would swap out your team for shadow Pokemon so you can resist everything, but that's not how I like to play)

    One way Whitney could be even harder is if she remains a Normal type Gym Leader in a future Johto remake, but replaces the now Fairy type Clefairy with the Normal/Fairy Jigglypuff. Not only would Jigglypuff take neutral damage from Fighting type moves, but it would also be able to use Disarming Voice, a 40 base power move that never misses.

    Mars and Whitney do what I can only imagine they wanted to do with Misty's Starmie. Biggest stat thing you'd seen by far and if they had only given it confusion it would have been a terror for anything but a pikachu.
    One that gets overlooked i feel is Teacher Emily in Ultrasun/ultra moon. At that point you've gone through a handful of battles against literal children and then the teacher rolls up with a starter youre weak to, 2 levels higher than anything else in the area and will smack you with super effective moves. It's still just level 10, so the grind to get past it isn't as harsh as the grind to get past the other two. But definitely a jump over it's sun/moon counterpart

    Speaking on the ORIGINAL Gold and Silver versions...
    Whitney is iconic as a roadblock because while she is VERY easy now... I'd wager many of us as kids (10-12 or younger) didn't have the greatest handle on type advantages and disadvantages so thinking to take a fighting type in to have an advantage most likely just never crossed our minds. (I would honestly be willing to bet that MANY of us didn't even know that the normal type was weak to fighting then)
    If you were anything like me, your starter was your strongest and you had a fairly okay team (probably not great but they somehow get the job done) for the rest of your 'mons. And trading for something that was going to be weaker (level-wise) didn't make much sense to us knuckleheads as children.
    So I imagine many of us opted to try to weather the storm of the Miltank and grind it out the very hard way.
    I was team Cyndaquil, by the way. And in those days that early in the game... Noctowl was my second strongest.
    Yeah, I struggled.

    Evice in Colisseum is worth a mention. His team is level 60, and a huge spike over Nascor, a skill swap slaking combo, two pseudo legendaries, and a baton pass swords dance user. If his team fires off, Scizor can swords dance, silver wind getting the boost, baton pass into slaking and skill swap it. It's crazy, even if you have all the legendary dogs at that point, he can still easily crater each one.

  • @BigBoss-lp9yi
    @BigBoss-lp9yi ปีที่แล้ว

    Respect for mentioning XD 👌🏾 Orre Colosseum is literally the hardest challenge in all of Pokemon, beat it - then tell me I'm wrong, but I'm not. Orre was on another level, it produced the best EV trained teams at the time and even if the pokemon you wanted wasn't included in-game, you could still trade from the GBA titles to try to beat Orre Colosseum (and you needed to, arguably). It's impossible to beat without extremely well EV trained pokemon, that alone makes it a nightmare and on top of that, you have to battle tournament rounds, which means consecutive battles with failure meaning a total restart at the first trainer in the lineup. There are levels to it after you beat the first set, no duplicate items are allowed and on top of that, there's a NIGHTMARE Smoochum of all things used by trainer 1 that totally screws with the whole balance of the first battle, it's set battles rather than shift until your first 2 Pokemon faint and if your pokemon aren't either properly defensively trained or very move pool dynamic, you're a gonner. No challenge in pokemon is harder and I stand on that. Orre was for rock solid trainers, hence the "ore" in it's name 😌 And it's a "spinoff" 😆 After everything after gen 4, I'd argue that term isn't accurate, what with all the timeline stuff. Orre being based on Arizona means it borders Unova in some context, at the very least. Anyway, kudos 🤌🏾

    Also, collecting all colored stickers of the battle frontier of Platinum/HGSS as the 2nd hardest challenge.

    Honourable mention the teacher carrying opposite starter to yours in usum

  • @kaiserexe4072
    @kaiserexe4072 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    I mention some challenge that were left out, some of them could possibly be honorably mention since it couldnot be hard if you know what are you doing:
    1 Pokemon Red and Blue (1 GEN). Elite four and Rival Blue. After you defeat Lance in the Elite Four, you automatically go straight to battle Blue. Meaning, your Pokemon wont be at full health, since you dont have a break to use potions or revived. So if you only have one pokemon left, after battling Lance. Then good luck. This was fixed on the remake.
    2. Pokemon Black and White. Final battle against N. After beating the Elite Four and the cutscene of N overtaking the league. You will find him at the top of his castle. Then you will be forced to battle your respective legendary dragon, and capture it. You get to choose whether or not You want Reshiram/Zekrom to be on your team, or send it to PC. If you keep it in your party; then the first battle will be yours and N's dragon. A great concept on paper; and given this would basically be a final boss challenge, N would have some sort of advantage. In this case, N's legendary Pokemon will be two level higher than yours, which is not bad. The problem is the moveset. N's dragon will always have better moveset than yours regardless the version. It will have its signature move, giga impact/hyper beam, light screen/reflect, zen headbutt/extra sensory. your legendary pokemon will have a dragon breath. Problem however, it has its own pros and cons depending on the version. If you have Reshiram then it will do more damage since it is a special attack. However N's Zekrom could reduce it via Light screeen. If you have Zekrom instead, it will bypass the Reflect made by N's Reshiram, but it would not be very strong since zekrom is physical attacker.
